I ordered this to try, and picked up in store today. It’s HUGE. Very oversized. This a a M and I’m swimming in it. I suspect many fabbers would be sized out in this. It’s a great interesting design, just way too voluminous for my liking. From the side view it’s really amusing. The armholes are cut low too, so that just contributes to the overall too-big look.

Pic 2 I’m holding it back just so you can see where my actual body is in it.

I might try ordering it in a S or even XS. Not sure.

Janet, FWIW, it's meant to look like it does to my eye. And you wear it well! If you size down, you will lose the avant-garde drama, and fashion forward vibe of the look.

That said, to satisfy your own curiosity, try a size S too. Always helpful to compare sizes

Angie, I’d try it a size down. Seriously from the side it’s not a good look! I easily have more than an extra foot of fabric around the hip. Picture for your amusement.

My dear Janet, the side view looks voluminous and GREAT! I like it! The side slits add structure and offset some volume, IYKWIM.

Let's see the size down when you get it, of course. I suspect you will feel better in it. That's important

Angie, yes — I did not feel fab in this amount of volume, and I think a size smaller would still be plenty roomy and dramatic. I just ordered the S to try. They actually had the dress in store, but it’s telling that the rack was full of XXL, XL, and L. No smaller sizes.

It's a cool dress Janet, I hope you figure out the right sizing! I know exactly what you mean about volume - I enjoy seeing very voluminous items on others, but when I try them on, I feel a little overwhelmed and generally end up sizing down.

Yes, Tanya — I like a *little* volume but not to the point where I just feel like I’m wearing a big tent. I just felt a total lack of structure or shape in this size. I think a size down may feel better.

It's a cool looking dress -- I have it in my Finds, too. Looks like it would overwhelm shorter me for sure!

I do find the underarm issue a real problem in some oversized tops and summer dresses. I've been looking at a few Zara tops and notice the underarms are cut so deep that on a side view the bra will be 100% visible. I'm not comfortable with that, myself. Mind you, it's built in air conditioning!

No, Suz, I’m not comfortable with that either, and I want a breezy item like this to be wearable without having to put on a camisole underneath. Sometimes a little alteration can close up the armhole enough for my comfort. And for sleeveless items, often taking up the shoulders solves the problem, since I am so short in the torso.

It's kind of cool, I get it, but it doesn't wow me . I think some of it for my eye is the colour - kind of "neither here nor there " ?

LOL I was going to explain that this is straight out of the shipping package so completely creased! That certainly doesn’t help.

I feel like ALL my summer dresses are blue and white or some variation, or black. So if I’m going to add another blue dress, it needs to hit a high mark. After all, I do have my Zero+Maria Cornejo, which is such a winner that it sets the bar high for dresses from here on out. I know that the next time I’m in NYC, I’ll be stopping in there again!

Yeah - this doesn't compare at all to that dress, and would it fill another role ? I think if it were black or maybe even navy it would make a stronger statement .

Hmm, I am with Angie and think it looks great like this, but I am known to wear tents so take this with a grain of salt. It would also depend on the material - a softer material would fall back and give more structure in motion.

Jaime, I’d be more comfortable with volume in a softer fabric too. I’m not sure about the fabric — it may be too wrinkly for my liking. If it creases a lot with wear, I won’t be happy.

Well, you've got to be happy with it, but I agree with Angie and Jamie that the drama of it is in the volume, and it doesn't look too big to me! Once it's steamed and hangs better, it might be more evident. Looking at the model pic, I think i's got to be big enough to hang straight down, and the armholes are large on purpose. Curious about the fabric, is it like a nice shirting fabric?

I agree with others on the intended oversized look but I understand it’s not a conventionally flattering silhouette. IMO in #2 where you pull the dress back, it lost its drama. But it would be definitely interesting to see a smaller size.

Janet, I love this dress for you, the colour and architectural details are fabulous. With voluminous dresses, I find a cross body bag works well to add some structure without changing the line of the dress.

Ok. Well, I confess I don’t see what everyone else is seeing. Maybe a steam would make a difference, but I don’t see it draping at all like it does in the ad picture…

I am not a fan. In theory I love big cotton/linen dresses but in reality on me they look like hospital gowns.

Interesting architectural dress but wearing it IRL is probably a different story. Its likely going to get wrinkled a lot by its sheer volume and fabric make up. The big arm holes and it feeling like a tent would cause me to take a pass on it as well.

Hmm, I'm a little torn. It is very fun and avant garde but I think I would feel like I'm wearing a bed sheet. The fabric doesn't look as flowy as the model shots, maybe that is why.

Yes, kellygirl, same...tempted by this dress but at 5'3" I think I'm too short for it. . Also, it looks like it doesn't have pockets...? I have a black linen dress, it's kaftan type, with lots of volume, so the width thing is fine with me.

For those who think it would be too long for you, you may want to try it — I think shortening the hem would be an easy alteration.

Volume is a tricky thing, especially for those of us who are more hourglassy. I have more tolerance for it in a garment that has drape than a stiffer, crisper fabrication. Granted, I didn’t have the advantage of a freshly steamed or pressed dress to try here, so maybe with proper care the fabric would behave nicer. I don’t really want something that wrinkles badly at, say, the hip, where it could naturally crease with sitting. I didn’t even get to evaluate that! I’ll give it a more fair chance when I see the smaller size.

The point some of you make about the color is a fair one. I don’t mind the color, personally, as I love most things blue, and it’s a good color for me in general. I like that it reads as a bit of a false plain from a distance — I have an awful time finding solid-color dresses that work for me. So many dresses come in black, or tan, and that’s it. And lately it might be yellow or pink which are not me.

We shall see what the smaller size brings! Especially since I am losing weight, albeit slowly (officially down 6 lbs).
