Your advice! What to wear with patent grey or icy blue pumps... (New pics!)

Hi! I need your precious input. I hesitate between two shades in the Rockport "Total Motion" pointed toe heeled pumps: patent smog grey orpatent bright icy blue?

What colors would you wear with either? What goes well with light grey? What goes well with bright, powder blue?

Thank you for your help!

A light grey can be almost a nude and go with nearly everything, especially for spring/summer. The light blue is so pretty that it would be fun to wear them with anything, whether or not it "goes". The blue shoes would be fun with baby pink for the pantone spring colors combo.

I'd do the baby blue with denim or olive green . And the pale grey with white or denim.

Powder blue goes well with white or cream, with pearl gray, with silver, with hot orange, with olive and some paler greens, with tomato red, with burgundy, with apricot/salmon, and with faded denim colors as well as cobalt and navy.

Pale gray is a neutral, so I agree, so it can go with about everything and serves as a near nude for cool toned skin.

ETA: if it's got some warm tones in it though and is slightly taupe, it is hard to match with other grays like Firecracker says.

I would think of the gray ones as taupe or stone and wear them accordingly--i.e., not trying to go with clothes in gray tones, but rather in olive, cream, charcoal, black, and some brown tones. They would also go with lots of colors--most reds, burgundies, purples, cool blues, corals. In my wardrobe taupe goes with most things, in fact. I don't know what I'd wear the light blues with, but I like Joy's approach!

I agree with Firecracker. I think the grey ones are warm toned, and are less likely to work with true greys, but would be fabulous with olive, burgundy, etc.

Joy, excellent flare for the baby pink. And I agree, they are so blue, so icy that in the end they could be matched with anything.

Lisap, I like your idea of contrasts.

Rabbit, thank you for your detailed list, it is most helpful! The colors you mention make me long for summer dressing. Good point about the cool skin tone too... which I think happens to be my case.

Annagybe, good to know. Our complexions are similar, maybe because we are both cool toned?

Firecracker and JAileen, you speak the words of wisdom. It is hard to tell if they are warm or cool, maybe because of the patent.

Reason would have me keep the grey ones, as they appear to be more versatile in terms of what to wear them with. And on my (pale skin) foot they kind of disappear, their patent discreetly shining, very not-in-your-face chic.

But then the icy blue ones once on your feet really pop in a cute way. They are the kind of shoe that makes you go "Wow" when you see them, and they'd be the first thing one would notice. It would bring up any ordinary jeans & tee outfit one notch... so in this sense, they could end up getting as much wear, if not more. The blue makes them more casual, more fun.

I'm still torn! :-S

The gray ones strike me as a taupe color and would work as a nude for cool skin tones. They'd work with a lot of things, but not very well with gray, as they aren't a true gray. I think they'd be more versatile than the blue ones, but possibly not as fun.

The blue ones look a lot like light blue denim, and would probably serve as a neutral to go with a lot of different colors.

I bought a pair of baby blue pumps and am contemplating wearing them with a black dress and lt blue obi belt for my daughter's college graduation in May. I also think I'll find some way to pair them with pink and navy.

The grey ankle boots I got rid of were a warm grey, similar to your example. They were neither here nor there. Didn't go with anything.

I'm kind of feeling the blue more -- as some her have mentioned, grey can be trickier than expected, plus the blue makes more of a statement, since this is a classic pump style. The blue feels more special, and I bet it would look fantastic with denim. Also with white!

Oooh, get the blue ones -- so pretty!

My entire wardrobe would go with the blue ones, but that's because I wear pretty much just denim, black, white and grey. But actually I bet they'd go with more than you think -- army green, some shades of brown, red, orange...light blue is an easy colour to style.

I love my grey shoes with navy, surprisingly not so much with black. I would see the baby blue pair working with navy, black or white, but it would all depend what top your were wearing.

Get a belt or bag to blend somewhat with the blue shoes. Worn together they will make an outfit look cohesive. Go with your heart not what you think is practical

I think you would be happier with the blue. If you need a sober *serious* nearly nude shoe, ALSO get the gray. But if you wear a lot of gray (seems to me you don't), avoid the gray because a solid gray shoe can clash just enough not to work.

Like Anna, I have found grey footwear to be really difficult to style, despite (theoretically) having so much in my closet it should work with, and also being cool toned in complexion. Angie had a blog post about this a while ago. But despite following her advice I still find my grey booties and my grey knee high boots difficult to wear. Pewter / silver is a different matter -- this is easy. So perhaps patent would have something of the same effect. But I would go with the blue for fun and interest.

I like the light blue. It's an unusual color for footwear, but it should work with a lot of other things.

The blue ones. The gray ones read like a beige neutral on my phone. The blue ones will go with creams, tans, pinks and lavenders, whites, silver, cooler grays, navy. Maybe mustard, Browns, cognacs for a fashion-forward approach.

DonnaF, you are correct, I don't wear a lot of grey. But I also don't have the wallet to get the two pairs. My heart is leaning towards the blue ones.

Suz, it's good to know. And here I am thinking the grey ones might be the more practical, reasoned choice, when in fact I might have it all wrong, and the improbable blue might very well turn out to be a more useful pick.

CocoLion, you make me dream with your list of colors. I want to get things in all those shades now to try on with the blue shoes. I think I will keep the blue ones. I am doing good, thanks! Have been working like a mad woman but soon I'll have more time to post again. I have missed this forum!

Late to the party but glad you are leaning towards the blue. I think the grey ones will be surprisingly difficult to coordinate and that if practicality is measured by wearable-ness the blue ones will be the winners.

Another vote for the blue. Like faded denim they would be a neutral to me and a fun contrast with bold colors (like the aforementioned red). Suz beat me to the Angie post on tones of grey. I thought I needed grey, but in the end I've stuck with nude to me (which can be blush, nude or gold depending on my mood).

I have added some pics. It's really hard. I thought I was set on the blue ones, but from these pics I'm not sure anymore. The gray ones seem to behave like a nude on my very light skin. What do you guys think?

I really like the grey ones, too. I don't think they're grey, though, but taupe instead. There's nothing wrong with taupe. They really look good in #10.

Having looked at your pictures I am finding that the grey ones do behave as a nude and so when wearing with shorter skirts give you a longer leg line. I really do like both (I know that is not helpful) as the blue are very pretty especially when worn with the cooler tones. Where you are wearing the chocolate brown pants, I prefer the grey for that outfit.

I was all set on the blue ones, mentally. Now that I see pictures, I find the gray ones to be universally flattering, no matter what outfit you have on, they look great. The blue ones are more neutral than I was expecting from the stock photo. I was thinking of more of a statement blue shoe rather than a pale neutral. If you want a workhorse, go for the gray. They are a really fabulous neutral on you.

Set 3/4 - the blue

Set 5/6 -- it's a tie

Set 7/8 -- the gray

9/10 -- the gray

11/12 -- the blue? or tie?
