You'd Never Know by Looking.......

Inspired by the rash of '10 things you didn't know about me' blog award posts, I thought it would be fun to do a similar thread with a fashion twist. Well, sort of. Post one thing that we would never know about you just from your outward appearance.

You'd never know by looking at me...
that I am an avid UFC fan (Ultimate Fighting Championship- AKA mixed martial arts or cage fighting). But don't talk to me about what's current. We recently discovered this, and are watching our way through every UFC match available on DVD in chronological order and are only up to 6 years ago.

Great topic!
I'm a huge Law&Order fan (including the two spinoffs) and a huge, HUGE NCIS fan.
I also love football. In fact, I watch more than my husband does. The strategy is so fascinating. I also watch a lot of basketball.

You'd never know by looking at me that I'm really messy. Not dirty, but messy... my desk is cluttered with papers, I often have a pile of clothes on a chair, the inside of my purse becomes highly unorganized at times... but on the outside I always look neat and put together. Go figure.

Fun thread!

I don't think you guys would guess that I LOVE to go backpacking with my husband every summer. We usually only do 2 nights, but it's a bonafide carry everything on our backs uphill for 7 miles, sleep in a tent, not a bathroom within miles, adventure. Here's a pic to prove it

You would never guess from looking at me....... that although quite neat and tidy, I'm unable to wash the dishes without leaving huge puddles of water all around the kitchen, it drives Ben absolutely batty.

You'd never know it to look at me, but I once worked in a gun store making bullets. The store belonged to my friend's parents and they'd pay us to pour lead slugs and sweep the shooting range.

Oh, and add me to the clutter crew...

Chewyspaghetti, I went to high school with a guy who's apparently pretty big in UFC circles now - his name is Phil Baroni. I've never watched, though.

You wouldn't know by looking at me that I love to go fishing. My husband taught me while we were dating and we used to go all the time - it's harder now that we have little kids, but I'm anxious to teach DD1 now that she's almost 4. And if we go on vacation alone, we always charter a fishing trip - we even went trout fishing with a guide on our honeymoon.

I can hook worms with the best of them and I don't get squeamish at all. Oh, and I always catch bigger fish than DH does!

Even though I am as mushy as it gets, I love watching violent movies and get annoyed with chick fliks. I find hard rock relaxing and can't bare slow music. Yoga makes me nervous and I am the world's number one Battle Star Galactica fan.

I have never been drunk in my entire life . It has nothing to do with anything other than I will not allow myself to lose control ....even as a teen I didn't party. I was a bit of a square:) Even my children can't get over that one:)

AJ, I actually mean the new BSG series that was made in 2007 - 2009. It's the best TV series ever made. You have to watch it.

I hate violent flicks and chick flicks equally. Would much rather watch something with a strong story and cinematic artistry. Taylor, high five. I'm too much of a control freak. But since most people assume (incorrectly) that I'm Muslim anyway it never seems to surprise most people.

But I love hardcore, punk, grunge, and a whole lot of other music I don't think most people expect me to like. What can I say, I just love hearing men scream.

Most of the forum members know I'm very politically inclined but I don't think most people who don't know me would guess that just by looking at me. I guess I do eat a lot of granola but that's about it...

On my 21st birthday I had a drinking party at my apartment to purposely experience what it feels like to be drunk. I never ever felt the need to get drunk again. : )

What a great thread! Like Tricia, I love to go fishing in the mountains with my husband, and I don't mind hooking the worms either. I prefer action movies and I listen to R'n'B music!

I helped to fund my university education by working as a swimming teacher - I taught 3 year olds through to adults. I have also been hot air ballooning twice.
If I got to choose my career all over again I would either study viticulture or to be a sommelier.

Such a fun thread!

People are often surprised when they learn more about my tastes in music, films, books etc. I'm usually not into "mainstream" and poppy bands, maybe that contrasts quite a bit with how I look and dress?

E.g. Tindersticks is one of my favourite bands ever. My friends always make fun about that: they think their music is dark and depressing, I find it beautifully melancholic and comforting;-)

And if we're talking movies: I can appreciate all the model/movie star handsome actors, but really have a thing for more rugged looking men one generally wouldn't call good-looking (but there's just something about them;-), like Tim Roth and Gary Oldman, e.g.

I also go a bit weak at the knees when I hear a sexy Scottish, Irish,... accent.

Also, I just might be the cheapest person alive. I hardly ever "splurge" on things without selling off some existing assets (read, thrifted clothes) to pay for the purchase.

That I was an Air Force wife for 25 years and I once lived on a Portuguese island in the Azores. I lived in a little four room cinder block house with a red tile roof. We had no heat and used a flash heater to heat our water. We had a garden and cement pig pens (no pigs) out back, and we would get fresh bread every morning from the bread truck that came by the house. Every morning and every evening the cows were herded through the street in front of our house on the way to pasture. Our little island was 8 miles wide and 13 miles long, and many of the inhabitants still used donkeys to get around. We were 900 miles off the coast of Portugal in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and the wind would howl every night. I once even found a donkey on my back patio. Those were the days! Oh, and we moved 14 times in 25 years!

Glad to see so many other non drinkers on ylf. I'm not surprised somehow as we generally have better judgment than most people!

I have terrible sidewalk rage. If someone in front of me is walking too slow or won't let me pass, they instantly become the worst person in the world and are at the receiving end of a lot of unspoken insults and foul language! Since I walk fast this seems to happen a lot. I need therapy.

This is a fabulous thread; so fun peeking into everyone's lives!

I too love BSG and L&O and mmmm, NCIS: LA. (They are all so pretty. LOL!)

But I feel bad for all the non-drinkers; you guys are missing out on the hedonistic pleasure of tipsy shoe shopping! Heehee, it is one of my most favorite spur-of-the-moment treats with my girlfriends, and I have bought some fabulous shoes that way.

One unknown fact about me: I've been watching soaps since I was in grade school. I watch off and on now, but I had a subscription to Soap Opera Digest for over 20 years! As the World Turns and General Hospital are the ones I know the best, but I have watched them all at some point!

Hi everyone! This my first post. Have been reading off and on for a few weeks and really love what I've read so I wanted to say hi. These have been great, what you'd never guess about me...posts. I also LOVE CSI, NCIS type TV shows. I don't drink either because I'm more of a chocoholic. You never know I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years recently! My DH and I moved there after he received what we thought was an amazing job off, turned out it wasn't but we what an experience! I look forward to posting more. Cheers! PQ
