OOOh Tricia- you went to school with Phil Baroni! I will have to tell tell dh- he will be so impressed. Now, someone tell me they have a connection to Andre Arlovsky..... please!!!

This is fun to read! I'm with Angie and Sarah on preferring action movies over chick flicks. Give me Kill Bill anyday!

You'd never know by looking at me (I know, because people tell me that all the time) that I'm a veteran of the US Army. I also love to watch football! I've been a non-drinker for about five or six years, but I certainly got my fill of drinking in the years prior.

Kristen, I like tipsy shoe shopping!!! Give me a call sometime!

One more confession... I'm a crossword puzzle nerd!

haha, where to begin?

Along the lines of Debora's experience, I studied in South Africa for a semester, and rather than taking showers had to deal with a daily bucket bath with water heated in a pot on the stove! My appreciation for showers grew infinitely during this time...

A bunch of my friends and I went naked under our gowns for our high school graduation.

I played the quads in the high school marching band. (For those who don't know, these are quads: http://www.lucidnotion.com/photos/school/quads.jpg)

I own an absurdly large collection of nail polish.

I have a dent in my head (covered by my hair) from forceps the doctor used when I was being born. Occasionally a hair stylist will discover it while washing my hair, but otherwise it goes completely unnoticed.

Oh, Inge, I'm w/ you on Hollywood actors. I don't find the typically "handsome" prettyboy types all that appealing. I'm not so sure I'm into "rugged" but perhaps more indie? Give me Jared Leto over Brad Pitt any day of the week.

Oh, this is fun to peek into posters lives:) I don't know what would surprise people, but...

I strongly prefer the classics to chick flicks and "beach books", but I liked the Twilight series. I love Nordstrom and the local feed store equally. I like to skeet shoot and I'm pretty good at it. I love beautiful shoes, sailing, and good scotch. History and architecture are my passion and have been since childhood. I have very curly hair that I pay exorbitant amounts of money to get straightened.

I thought of a couple more. You'd never know by looking that...

- I used to have purple hair. OK, not bright purple, but sort of the purple-black of an eggplant. That was probably 17 years ago though.

- I used to wear combat boots, real ones, just about everyday. (not surprisingly, during the same period as the purple hair.)

- I have a fairly encyclopedic knowledge of 1980s-era punk and indie pop. I'm only recently starting to listen to some more modern stuff and even so I'd rather have the Cure, the Smiths, the Clash, or Crowded House any day. (I'm actually going to see Crowded House in a couple of months. Can't wait.)

Hmm... things you'd never know by looking at me. (trying not to cheat and re-use stuff from my list o' 10 from my blog...but you are all free to go peek).

In high school and college I wanted to be a country singer "when I grew up." (it all changed when I met my husband).

I'm a big fan of old, old, old movies, the cheesier the better, and especially musicals. Even better if they're black and white. My favorites are anything with Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Cary Grant and/or Danny Kaye (whom I have loved since I was tiny, evidently).

I'm definitely Team Jacob (and get teased by my husband and friends about it all the time).

I'm not much of a drinker, either, but I can't say I've never been drunk, just never intentionally - there were two times, one I didn't realize how poorly I would handle my alcohol after not having any since before my son was born and the other I never dreamed they'd use 11 oz. of tequila in a 12 oz. margarita!

I don't eat chocolate. At all. And I haven't had caffeine since I was in high school.

Yay Tricia! A non-NZ or Australian Crowded House fan! I'm going to see them in June in London - can't wait!

I also have a terrible potty mouth when I drive. Much like Maya's sidewalk rage:)

Oh wow interesting thread - umm lets see..

Team Jacob as well - he's a real man!
I have butter & vegemite on my raison toast
I have a weakness for Carmamello Koalas
I went through a "Goth" stage when I was at high school (probably why I hate black clothes so much now!) and the good thing about that is that it made me fall in love with bands like Violent Femmes and Urge Overkill
and my last one would be that I am fairly addicted to E-Bay and YLF

You guys are too funny! I love Kate's HS graduation tale

I guess I'm not the only verbally venting driver around here, Taylor. Although most of my offenders are fondly referred to as 'jerks'.

I love reading fluffy books - Shopaholic series, Twilight series, Uglies series - anything that requires very little analysis or thinking.

I also love watching '24'. Last winter we hunkered down and caught up on about four Seasons of it!

I also take a scalding hot bath EVERY night (everyone in my house knows to leave me lots of hot water after 10 PM with the daily Sudoku and NY Times crossword puzzle.

High five to Debora and Sara, I am a big crossword fan (an language nerd in general).
You'd never know that I had a fairly extensive art training as a teen. You'd think I would be more creative with my clothing and home decor.
I don't like camping and I don't ski - I don't consider it unusual but it seems very uncommon around here.
For a software professional, I am very behind on technology. My phone is very basic and I still use a first generation ipod.
Oh, and I have a sidewalk rage problem as well - although I have mellowed down since I had kids, it still comes back when I am by myself.

Gosh, I'm in the minority of the drinkers I guess! I am the catcher on a rowdy co-ed Pub-league softball team, with the rest of the neighborhood bar flys! We're gearing up for another season!

Fun thread!

I'm with you ladies who are into loud, energetic music. Many people I know IRL are surprised that I play in rock bands, since I currently project a mellow, soft-spoken mom image.

Let's see -- I'm also a big fan of trashy romance as well as science fiction/fantasy novels. (high five to MNsara -- I don't like to think when I read either!)

This is really a lot of fun.
Here's another one- I absolutely hate the phone, and I will do just about anything to get out to talking on it except to my mother. Text me, email me, or leave me a message- just don't expect me to call you back LOL

This is fun to read! So many little secrets to unveil, hehe.

You wouldn't know by looking at me

- that I hate mobile phones. My husband makes me carry one with me because of my pregnancy, but I don't even know my own number. Most of the time it's useless because I always forget to charge the batteries. When someone asks me for my number I always tell them I don't have a mobile. I just cannot be bothered with calls.

- that in school I have always been the kid that was chosen last for any sports team. I've always been a looser at any sport. Too slow, no strength, and no courage to try things. Luckily I look a lot more athletic than I am.

What a fun thread. Some things I have in common with some of you:
- I have never had alcohol in my life
- I am a language nerd
- I only took bucket baths until I was 20 (maybe had had half a dozen actual showers until then)

Some other things you'd not know about me:
- I have never owned a TV in my house
- I love dancing to loud rock
- Blasting the stereo to rock while cooking is one of my most relaxing activities

Oh, this thread is so much fun! Hmmmmmm, some random things you'd never know about me includes......

I'm a classical music nut. I really love opera and I listen to classical music all the time. I'm probably more of a Beethoven girl than a Mozart girl. I'd choose listening or playing Schubert of Brahms anyday, and I agree that Tchaikovsky is schmaltzy, but in the right mood, I love listening to his music! (Of course, I love modern music as well, but it is kind of my "hidden" secret, because people often associate classical music with older people. Most people I know also do not realise that I play piano quite well and have perfect pitch. You now know more about me than some of my friends!)

When we first got together, my husband and I bonded over our mutual loathing of sci-fi and fantasy genre movies, books and tv series. We both can't stand them. Blurk!

The thought of eating a banana makes me want to throw up and I love mustard pickle sandwiches, give or take the cheese. That's enough of me for now - I wouldn't want to give away too many secrets at once!

FASCINATING thread!! I'm loving reading all about you guys and there sure are some things I would never have guessed!

In addition to the 10 things on my blog, here are some others...

Most people don't realise I'm an unemployed single mum because I'm too "prim & proper"

I will never pay to see a chick flick at the cinema - they are purely for lazy nights at home when I don't want to think, but I love action/drama's and movies that make you think - they are my absolute faves. Actually, I don't really get crude comedies either - I'm not into all those "silly" movies.

Also an NCIS fan - Agent Gibbs makes me weak at the knees... while all my friends prefer DiNozo. My other fave TV show is House - Dr House also makes me swoon... (And I love that Hugh Laurie is so talented - I have a novel he has written and really appreciate his other work besides House, like Blackadder).

I'm also in love with Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Cougar Town, The Good Wife... I'm a bit of a TV nut actually.

Irish or Scottish accents also make me weak at the knees!

Another one who looks neat and tidy but lives in clutter - of course I blame the little people for most of it LOL

I LOVE junk food but am skinny so people think I live very healthily - I'm also super un-co and was hopeless at all sports, but again, look reasonably fit.

As much as I love a good glass of wine and happily drink plenty of it - I no longer get rolling drunk like I used to... I did on NYE this year and was very quickly reminded why I don't do it! I hate being out of control, hate being sick the next day, would prefer to save my $$, and love being the one to remember the night and remind everyone how silly they were LOL But, I do love having a couple of wines and being cheeky!

I am considered to be the "big sister" of pretty much all of my brothers friends and get on very well with them all - I have about a dozen "little brothers"

I love to have fun but am very serious and people never know which way to take me.

I too suffer from road rage, but having children repeat back what I say to other drivers now means I have to mutter under my breathe LOL

Khris I'm the same with the phone - absolutely hate it! Currently thinking about disconnecting my home phone and only having my mobile so people only talk briefly and if they HAVE to...

I'm INCREDIBLY impatient...

Gosh I could go on for hours I think - I tend to be fairly private, so there's lots about me that people don't know!

This is so unreal there are some many things that people are alike in. I keep reading others posts and going "me too!!!"
Theresa I love Gibbs too, so much hotter than DiNozo!!
MNsara me too on the fluffy books. Twilight is as 'deep' as i get with literacy.
I love Nickleback
Team Edward- looks like i'm in the minority on that one though if Jacob knocked on my door and asked me out i'd not turn him down!!!!!

Fun!!

Like Maya, I suffered from sidewalk rage when living in NY. Like Taylor, I now vent my rage in the car instead. My favorite bad driver term comes from my grandpa: You chucklehead!! Not as satisfying as true potty mouth, but it works when you have little kids in the car.

Kristen, you have to call me for tipsy shoe shopping. Please!!

Since I am such a fan of YLF, it might be kind of surprising that I am not a fan of social networking in general.

I am a big genealogy freak and am knee-deep in research at the moment!

And like Inge, I have a weakness for men with accents. Particularly Scottish men. Of course that could link back to my ancestral ties to the British Isles, if we are looking for ways to pull all these themes together

What a great thread and such an interesting group of ladies. Backpackers, campers and accent lovers (well I have a huge one myself) can add me to the list.

One of the things people would probably not know about me unless going through my old pictures is that I used to be the lead singer in an alternative rock band (think Cranberries and Cardigans). Some of this time also coincides with the time I had blond in the front and red in the back hair. Really short blond bob with red pixi underneath... so was not such a disaster, but it was unnecessary nonetheless.

I also pretty much tried all the possible hair colors and three years ago ended up deciding I love my natural hair color and will go natural until I have whites. My family members don't get whites until their late 40's so I have 10 years or more to stay natural.

I'm sorry, Theresa, but Hugh Laurie is taken. By me.

(Are you a Jeeves & Wooster fan? I think that's my favorite of his work.)

LoP, you were a rock star!! A lot of things make more sense now.

Laura, we can easily remedy the tipsy shopping: we just need to go to Chammps BEFORE we hit the stores... LOL!

Oh, I have mortified my husband while transporting his parents in the car after picking them up downtown and cussing a blue streak at the idiot drivers around me...my mother-in-law still talks about it. In a good way!

You would never guess from looking at me that my Mum's side of the family originate from Italy and own a sweetie factory (hmmm...those mint balls are fine)

LOP I would love to see a photo of you from your indie rock days.

Hey Debora, that island you lived on in the Azores is the island where I was born and lived until I was 4 , Terceira !! I have been to that base several times in my life ! People are very surprised to find out that I am not American. I have no accent and look more Middle Eastern than Portuguese.

No one would know that I a yeller. Sometimes when I get mad at my kids I yell ....I am not proud of that. My favorite "band" is Def Leppard. And I am an economics nerd.

Angie, when I was in labor with my son, my birthing coach and my husband brought some classical music and sounds of the waves and wind ( I am a camper and hiker too ). About 1/2 an hour into to it, I told them to turn it off - it was depressing me. So I had them put in some John Cougar Mellencamp and Jethro Tull, that I brought. One of the doctors came in and said, " What is going on ? Lollapalooza ?" )

This is a GREAT thread Khris...everyone is sooo funny and interesting:)

I probably know every script and every line in every I LOVE LUCY episode ever aired.

I am glad others can relate to the car cussing...I also can't stand the phone...mine rings off the hook constantly:)

High five, Isabel! Yes, we were on Terceira and it was the most beautiful place that I have ever lived! I hope I get to go back some day to visit. How neat that you were born there!

WShat fun to read all these. You wouldn't know from looking at me that most of my childhood I studied insects and wanted to be an entomologist. My dream was to go to Brazil and discover a new beetle. My guidance teacher shot down that dream. Most girls in my highschool got married right after graduation (very different times!). He told me that if I was going to college, I'd have to be a teacher or a nurse or go to business school to be a secretary. It really was the way things were not all that long ago. Hard to believe now.
