Okay, so the other posts have been very enjoyable and educational. I didn't see the rectangle shape covered, and I have a feeling it could be harder to identify, but here goes...

A strapless bra can do double duty as a corset.
and Junior size jeans actually fit pretty great.

When you have to wear a sheath dress extra, extra tight in order to showcase a bit of curve.

When clothes with straight lines look flattering.

...when the tube skirts that look too body con on most women look perfectly restrained on you...

...when the pencil skirts that look anywhere from va-va-voom to office appropriate yet feminine on other women hang shapelessly on you and you need to get them tapered to create some curve, and it still doesn't look "sexy"...

;;;when you adore tops with pleating at the top or pocket detailing on the bust (as long as the pockets are not too big)

;;;;when buttoning shirts up to the collar seems perfectly comfortable to you and you can't imagine why it would be a problem...

....when you are wearing your most body con outfit and someone suggests that you should try a top that highlights your waist....

I have more:

When you look like a little boy in a wrap dress
When it's really hard to look va va voom and bombshell because you don't have the real estate
When it's easy to look feminine in boyish clothes
When you wear a stiff button down shirt with great comfort and ease (I so hear you on that one, Suz). Those straight lines work extremely well on your body - it's like magic.

"breedin' hips" that's hilarious, but so true!

And I'm with Suz on the pockets on shirts - I def. tend to gravitate towards them.

And with Angie on wrap dresses - I always wanted to be able to wear that style and have never succeeded. The wrap tops don't usually do me justice either but I do have one that works pretty well since if sort of floats away at the chest and gives that illusion of more volume.

You know, until finding YLF I never realised I was a rectangle. I would be walking behind students on campus and seeing people who are hourglasses or had tiny waists and I would always be wondering what I could wear to look like that.

But then I realised I was a rectangle (and elliptical!) so there was no point pining over something that would never be.

Oh, Angie, the wrap dresses....<sob> When I weighed more, my hourglass tendencies were more visible. And I could wear them. Alas, they are no more for me, much as I love them!

I have another one....

....when "surplice" styles are just SURPLUS. You look like you've been dropped into a huge sack.

Ooh, I hope I can chip in on this thread as well at the IT thread, since I sit right between the 2. I'd add, when no non-stretch tailored item has ever fit your hips and your waist at the same time... EVER. Every pair of tailored pants looks like this on me. Same with pencil skirts. There's so much extra fabric! Well, sorry guys, but I have no hips to put there! Grrr.

I'm not a rectangle (I'm a figure 8-style hourglass, with a small bust), and strapless dresses make me awfully anxious too!!! And I can identify with not being concerned about buttoning a shirt all the way to the top. In fact, most of the time button-down shirts don't have *enough* buttons at the top for me!

When "put a belt on it" just...puts a belt on it...instead of showing off your waist

I'll chime in, although I'm not a typical rectangle in that I can fill a wrap dress (I guess I have hourglass tendencies?)…but how about, you know you're a racy rectangle when the belt must go across hips, not waist, in order to not look ridiculous?

Or…when any style of jeans works on your bod

…when from the back you look like a twelve year old

OK, I'm dying over the "put a belt on it" thing. I cheat by wearing very oversized tops, or peplum tops, or batwing tops, or really anything with lots of volume, then belting that. I like to imagine it creates the optical illusion of curves. But probably not.

@Marley - yes, that. I have to wear wide belts just under the bust (like an empire waist) because I am so short torso'd. There's only about 2 finger widths between the bottom of my ribs and the top of my hip. So yeah, I always used to get so frustrated by all those 'how to' style things that told you where to belt. I wanted to yell, "but I don't HAVE any of those places!" Ha ha.

.....when waist belts look like luggage straps
....contoured hip belts become a gift from the fashon gods giving you some kind of graceful demarcation
....when you realize you have the same body type in a leotard today as you did when you started ballet class at 7 yo
.....when you wish those flapper era dresses would come back into style
......when you don't understand why they would put all those darts in the top half of dresses or all that room in the hip area
......when dress pant look like old time riding britches in the hip area....

These are hysterical. Some of mine will be a repeat:

*When while being pregnant and breast feeding you knew for the first time what a v neck was supposed to look like.
*When you envy those with a bust because it detracts from the belly
*When even as a teenager with 1% body fat your waist band almost cut you in half in order to get the hips to fit.
*When as a teenager you got tired of hearing "you're so lucky" because all you wanted was some curves
*when you learn that a 32 DD is still not a big cup size.
*when it took you well into adulthood to understand that just because you wear a small in everything else does not mean you wear a small in belts.

I was much more a rectangle in my younger days. Wish I had appreciated it more then!!

When you can wear a belt, wide or skinny, anywhere on your torso regardless of where your actual (invisible) waist is. (Like Marley said!)

I do have rear curves so I can fill out jeans and pencil skirts, but hips? Not here.
