Ok, here's mine. It's wordy. In my defense, the challenge is the perfect creative outlet I really need these days and I got a bit carried away. Plus, vacuuming over the weekend was so much more fun while thinking about my weekly outfits at the same time!
For the outfit's whats and whys, just jump down to the last paragraph of the post.
If I have to single out what I most love about this experience, it's getting to know the inspiration photograph so well. In previous challenge I have learnt to look for more and more... and then even more details in every painting. Bella's elaborate descriptions really opened my eyes and everyone's interpretations rounded up the experience and took it beyond what I was initially seing myself.
This time, I've decided to push myself into exploring the photographs more, even when I think there's nothing more to be seen, by taking time to absorb it all in and move on to the additional reading much later. And to try and create the outfits which do not necessarily rely on the obvious inspiration in the colors, but the moods or impressions or additional inspiration that came out of it.
The first thing I noticed were the beautiful, long hands and the striking contrast of the woman against the animals that could crush her any minute. She is fragile, elegant and controlled (poised), yet appears to effortlessly push them away - or even lean on them. What an attitide!
They are big, strong and controlled too - by being chained! She is wearing only the opposites - black and white, and looks very sleek and beautiful; everything else around her is grey, textured, unstructured. Un-beautiful.
What should I wear, while taking into account the weather (warm day) and the context (work)? I thought this should be an easy task for a blackoholic like myself, but it wasn't. I wanted to create the outfit around the hands, but it was too warm for the long sleeved black top and my white tee shirt was not good enough. Then I thought of using my studded grey Una-belt to address the element of elephants and strength, and work around that. Still not good. Next thought was to take my white patent belt, dismissed because it was too literall interpretation. I kept returning to the photograph many times, until I took more notice of the chains around the elephants' legs which reminded me of my chunky chain bracelet. I decided not to wear it in the usual way around my wrist, but wanted to come up with another way to incorporate into my outfit. Once tried, I had the familiar feeling of "yes, this could actually work".
The outfit breakdown:
short sleeved black top (to expose hands), black trousers (Dovima wears long dress which covers her legs), white belt (obvius inspiration) with golden chain to add something unexpected to the belt AND represent the elephants in my outfit. The line between the pants hem and my shoes is similar to Dovima's but that did not fit in the frame
