I have not yet looked at anyone else's pics yet - because I didn't want to be influenced by someone else's interpretation!

This pic was hard for me - I didn't vote for it, because I was bothered by the chains on the elephants legs. (I know, I'm waaaay too sappy when it comes to animals!)

So, here's my submission in honor of this picture.

I wore an Ella Moss black and gray tunic with a "twist" of white, black leggings, gray boots (to imitate the elephants' feet) and wrapped a chain necklace around my ankle that has an elephant charm hanging from it. I also have on very thin, dangly chain earrings that you cannot see in the photo. The last picture is my attempt to make it a black and white photo - but as you will see, I'm not very good at that!

Here's Makami!

Suz and MaryK - I am officially jealous of your brooch pins. I may or may not have browsed the ebay for elephant brooches.
Rae - gorgeous dress!
Joy - thanks for playing along. It is wonderful to see your outfit posts, yay!
Diana - the scarf is a nice touch
Ornella - I love reading about your thought process as much as I love looking at your outfit. Thanks for sharing!
yellowgirl - this is exactly what this challenge is about. Being inspired for artwork for your own life circumstances.
Heather - I really like the juxtaposition of the soft dress with the edgy belt- really reminds me of the contrast in the picture.
Kim - not one, but two outfits. your rock!
Thunalata - feel free to join in when you can, no pressure!
Aida - what a clever use of the sash!
jj - you did an amazing job, thanks for playing!

Double post, sorry!

Marley, you look fantastic!

I almost gave up on this challenge as I had no idea how to do it. I am afraid my outfit is not very creative but this is the thought behind it:
The first item I decided to use were my grey wide leg trousers and this is why:
- their texture and color represented those rough grey elephants and the width of the legs was to mimic their thick legs;
- Dovima herself just spells regal and elegant to me and I feel the most elegant and regal when I wear these trousers.
I wanted to wear something sleek and black on top to represent Dovima's dress and this top was the closest match.
To add a light vertical accent like her sash I have added this long pearl string. Similar colored pointy-toe shoes were selected to add to that feeling of light and sleekness.
And my red bag - what does it represent from this picture you ask? Well, nothing, I just felt like adding it to the outfit so it has something of me, not just Dovima and elephants.:-)
Whew, now when my duty is done I can go back and look at everybody's else interpretation...

For me this photo has little to do with elephants, and more to do with human arrogance. I went with a simple outfit (black pants/black sweater) and added metallic sandals, and a long silver chain looped around to my knee, kind of a nod to being enslaved by our own careless need for trinkets and entertainment. Cruelty tends not to end well, thus the pop of red.

Everyone looks so glamorous! It’s neat to see all the outfits in one thread, even if you didn’t know what the deal was, you’d catch on pretty quickly that all the outfits were connected somehow.

Bella – Gorgeous! Thanks for organising this.
Suz – Very classic.
Rae – You skirt is a series of elephant ears ☺
MaryK – You look as good in neutrals as you do in bold colours!
Joy – Your textural nod to elephant skin lends itself well to opulence!
Diana – I hope you have a fun event to attend. By the way, is that Babar?!
Ornella – Your bracelet belt combo is fantastic!
YellowGirl – Grocery stores totally need more sequins.
Heather – I hope they were serving Champagne at work today!
QueenMum – It may have been a repeat but it deserves to be repeated ☺
Aida – Uber chic!
JJSloane – Lovely – you should wear pearls more often ☺
Marley – Hellooo rock star!
Sveta – You look stunning! (We’re on the same wavelength – I went with a red purse as well!)

Gray cotton cargos give the rough texture of the elephants paired with black cotton knit top with ruffles for a little more elegance. Black suede flats and a silky cloth belt.

Bella - thanks so much for doing these. I don't have time to participate, but I love being a spectator. It's such great fun.

Joy - I've never seen you post before, and you are STUNNING!

Everyone else - your outfits are fabulous! I love them!

Okay, I'm late and am going to go back later to have a peek at everyone else's photos. Here is my attempt: black/gray zebra print ponte knit skirt, black cropped leggings with side snaps, white button-down blouse (double cuffed) over a raspberry cardigan tied with a black and white bow, gray pumps, silver earrings with white pearls, black and white specs.

#1: Inspired, again, by Angie's leggings under pencil skirt outfit, and also by another outfit in which I wore a cardigan over this button-down shirt with this black and white ribbon tied over it. I figured that the skirt brought in a "wild" vibe (though not quite elephant.) I realize the raspberry cardigan is a bit of a color departure, but my black boyfriend cardigan felt too heavy for the tailored look that I wanted to portray, and my gray cardigan was a bit too dull with the gray skirt.
So #2 is my very literal interpretation of the photo (sans elephant!)

Stayed home with a backache today and couldn't get myself around to dressing in anything but PJs. But I already have my outfit for tomorrow planned; 2 actually!

Everybody looks SO gorgeous! All you ladies are so creative and perceptive, SO fun.

I sat this one out...could someone link to the summary post? I'm trying to figure out what tomorrow's inspiration is...

What absolutely stunning interpretations ladies, love them all!

Love this! And Joy, it is wonderful to see you! Please post often, I am sure the techy bits will fall into place with practise :).

Here's mine. The thing that stood out to me most was the textural contrast between the flowing dress and the elephants skin. We were on hols, so I shopped my suitcase, and wore this to the zoo (sorry, no elephants) and on the flight home.

Love looking at everyone's interpretations.
When I planned mine I was very literal and was going to wear a black shift dress with a grey long sleeve top underneath (for the elephants) and then do a white ribbon in my hair.
However it snowed here so I haven't left the house today and am being lazy and don't want to put it on to take the photo : )
ETA: I realised that heaps of you deal with snow all winter but it's very exciting for us as we don't tend to get much each winter but we got quite a bit in the last couple days so my city has basically shut down.

I love seeing all the outfits and want to comment in detail later. I photographed mine but will have to work out where my toddler put the usb cable if I am to upload it...

I love that when I go to sleep, North America wakes up and I have a wonderful start to the following day while checking everyone's submissions.

Ladies, your Dovimas are spectacular.

@MaryK, I keep returning to your photo and have realised that apart from the fab shoes, the skirt is actually a winner here for me. It makes you look so young, I can easily picture you with a handful of books running around the campus somewhere, the elephant representing some striking college/uni emblem.

@YG, you are one Mom On The Glam. I adore your new hair and the elephant bracelet is the perfect finishing touch.

@Heather, the shoulder detailing on the dress in particular is fantastic. I mean seriously fantastic. And guess what - I just love, love Aida belt on you.

@QM, some fab wrinkling going on here, it's one gorgeous top.

@Aida, it's mindblowing to read you had similar approach. I love the sash detailing achieved with the scarf and the whole feet/shoes part of your outfit makes me green with envy I didn't think of it myself

@Jjsloane, I think you have captured Dovima's elegance.

@Marley... awesome! As much as I love how we create the outfits from the individual pieces, having one like yours that does the job all by itself is extra special. You'll hopefully be thinking of this challenge every time you wear it again. The leggings, boots and little elephant are super-creative. I love the b&w photo extra too.

@Sveta, how can you possibly say your outfit is not creative? I think some of us from Team Logical over think and overanalyse (and therefore always find room for improvement) far too much. Your choice of the trousers to me personally is spot-on because you've translated the mood of the inspiration to your outfit. This sleek outfit is totally up my alley, pearls and all, and adding your own element in the form of the red bag - wow!

@GirlX, pure genius with that chain! And I am blown away by how your dark side came to play in the form of the red bag. I seriously need to recover from this!

@tracina, just beautiful. The silk scarf completes the outfit perfectly.

@Kari, I love your thought process about the cardigan and the fact you used what felt right for you. And I love your skirt.

@Lynne, this is perfect and you shopped your suitcase only! You get extra points for coming up with the fab outfit and then some more for wearing pearls to the Zoo!

@Vani, I hope you are feeling better and can join in on Day 2.

Last but not least,
@Joy, whatever support you need to overcome the technical issues that stand in your way of posting, please share those with us, because lady - you just must post more.

WoW! Such wonderful, creative and seriously beautiful and thoughtful interpretations. I'm agog.

Love the chain referencing. And Lynne - you did that from your SUITCASE? Honestly, I think there should be a special YLF award for that.

Thanks, Bella, for doing this - it's really fun!

Fab looks, everyone! Everyone looks very glamorous and elegant. I have to second or third the excitement of seeing Joy's pic--you are so gorgeous, Joy!

Marley and Girl X, you saw what I saw when I looked at the image. Did you know that elephants are highly intelligent beings who live in complex social communities? They grieve their dead, are capable of amazing problem-solving and working together, and have fantastic memories. <hopping off of soapbox now :)>

Jonesy, Marley, GirlX, I echo your sentiments. I take the collar off my dog a few hours a day because I want to see him as free as he could possibly be. Elephants are far more intelligent and highly sensitive creatures.

These all look great. I actually dressed with this picture in mind yesterday, but I didn't get photos.

Ladies, it's so fun to see all of the wonderful outfits you've come up with!

Jjsloane, lovely elegant look and those pearls are a great element!

Marley, that is one awesome tunic! I love your gray boots and the little elephant charm on the chain is a very sweet touch.

Sveta, I think this outfit looks great! Very regal, as you were inspired by. Those gray widelegs were a fab choice.

Girl X, the chain and purse are incredible manifestations of your feelings on this photo, and reading your description was moving.

tracina, fab textural interest you've got going on here, and the light, silky belt is a great nod to Dovima's sash.

Kari, I love the raspberry cardigan being the only colorful element in your outfit. The "wild" skirt works perfectly, and I also really like that your "sash" is inverted in tone from Dovima's.

Lynne, really great mix of contrasting structure. I am so impressed you were able to come up with such a perfectly inspired look out of your suitcase!

BTW, rae -- you were totally wearing the skirt right and I was wearing it sideways. Oops! The buckles go on the side.

But I think I'll keep wearing it sideways because I like it that way.

Sometimes (not often) not having any hips is a blessing.

I forgot about the picture challenge on Monday so I'm posting Monday's interpretation today and I will post #5 tomorrow.

I thought my black maxi skirt and black sleeveless top would be a decent copy of Dovima's sleek black outfit. The grey woven belt represents the elephants' skin texture. White draped cardi as the contrast pop of Dovima's long sash. I have a long leather and chain wrap bracelet that I'm using for my necklace. The necklace plus the strappy sandals represent the chains around the elephants' ankles.

What struck me the most is the visual tension in the elephant's legs as they pull on their chains as if to break free. I wanted to create a sort of visual tension as well so I'm purposefully leaning to my right a bit more than usual to provide that sort of off balance feel.

Excuse the messy hair and serious expression. I was taking my pics quickly so I could change and go swimming! : )
