The Secret Santas certainly picked many wonderful gifts for everyone.
My Secret Santa gift traveled all the way from Australia. I could see the package came from Herbie’s spices.
It was all I could do to keep myself from opening the package to see what spice goodies lay inside waiting for me.
Finally opening day was upon me. I opened the package and was greeted with a card.
My Secret Santa did not disappoint.
Inside were 3 package of spices that are local to Australia.
Ground Saltbush - This is native to Australia from what I can find out. The Salt Bush leaves are picked fresh, dehydrated to capture the salty herb flavour and ground ready for you to use. The salty flavour with delicate herb tones enhance the flavour of quiches and other egg dishes, breads, scones, dampers and pastries, soups.
Salt Bush is also high in Protein (28%). This makes it an ideal ingredient for Vegetarians and Vegans.
Lemon Myrtle - Lemon myrtle is a citrus-fragranced spice that is native to coastal regions of Australia. It has been described as “more lemon than lemon”. Lemon myrtle has been growing wild in the coastal areas of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia for many thousands of years. The aroma of lemon myrtle is similar to a blend of lemon verbena, lemongrass and kaffir lime with a slight eucalyptus background. The flavor is distinctly lemony and tangy, with distinct lime zest notes and a pleasantly lingering, slightly numbing camphor aftertaste. Powdered lemon myrtle leaf is coarse, pale green and when fresh releases all of these aroma and taste attributes
Whole Pepperberries - Pepperberries are a very special spice. It’s not just their spectacular bright purple colour that makes them special but their intense heat, versatility and ability to make the most flavoursome and colourful pepper steak! They have a heat between pepper and chili but much more complex, almost sweet in both aroma and effect on the palate.
Thoughts and visions of all the various food dishes I can make with these spices filled my head and I have been wondering what to make first.
My Staub magic pot will be working its magic for sure. Hubby and I call it a magic pot as it is an enamel cast iron pot that whatever goes in comes out tasting heavenly.
Thank you to my Secret Santa.
