YLF Gathering in NYC: 11th or 12th Feb?

We will be in NYC for Fashion Week. If anyone feels like putting together a gathering or meeting up for that weekend (Saturday or Sunday), let me know.

I'm afraid that we can't be flexible with the dates because we are in NYC for Fashion Week - which is 9th to 17th Feb.

My SIL and BIL are moving back to NYC, but not until June. I'm definitely in after that since I'll have free place to stay. Any chance you can you grace those of us in the DC area???? It's only a quick Accela ride from NYC and I'm sure we can rally some troupes.

Ooh, I am tempted... will have to check my schedule. My fiance is in northern NJ so I go down to the NYC area a lot. Lucky for me, the bus is cheap (but a 4 hour ride).

Jeane, unfortunately not. NYFW is absolutely *HECTIC* to say the least and we can barely fit in a NYC YLF gathering. But I hope to make it to your neck of the woods at some point

Hmmmm.... I'll have to think about this. It would be lovely to meet all of you (but I maybe a little intimidated by everyone too). Keep me posted though because I could definitely take the train up there and be there in 2-3 hours since I'm here in DC.

Citigirl, I assure you there is nothing to be intimidated by. I hope that we meet!

Saturday sounds like a better idea, so we'll make it the 11th. Food, shopping and lots of yakking are in order.

If possible, I'd *really* appreciate it if someone could take responsibility for the day and organize the breakfast/lunch reservation and where we should shop. It takes the pressure off me during a very crazy NYFW.

We'll continue the organization on email and off the forum, so I'll need your email addresses.

Would it work if we split the task?

I would gladly assist with restaurant / dining arrangements. I don't think I could be good at handling the shopping part. I am not really sure what the overall interest would be.

What part of town do you gals usually meet at? Midtown, Downtown...

I'd be happy to share the task! And if this has been done before in NYC, I'd love to share with anyone what worked (or didn't).

Depending on which part of town we want to meet or be in, I have some very savvy NY friends who can help recommend places to shop and eat! Why don't I put in a shoutout? Angie, where do you want to meet up and spend your time?

I was just in Soho over Christmas and there's tons of shopping, but it's all typical stuff you can find anywhere...BR, Steve Madden, etc. I'll find out other options, including midtown, because I'm not crazy about it...but it's convenient!

Ooh, tempting...round trip tickets aren't as expensive as I thought and I've never been to NYC...I imagine, however, that hotel rooms are pricey though. Any recommendations?

Amy, you could get a better deal if you stay somewhere other than in Manhattan. Try hotels in queens ( by LGA Airport).

Amy, Zap is right, but traveling into Manhattan is not fast from these outside places - at least I don't think so, (it's probably so Un- New York for me to even say that!). And you might like to take that into consideration if you join us. WHICH I HOPE YOU DO!!!

Mochi, we have to be close to Lincoln Centre because that's where many of the runway shows are. So we stay on the Upper West Side for the duration of NYFW. BUT! We can meet and shop anywhere. Personally, I'm not partial to midtown, but really - we can shop there too. Getting recommendations from your friends is an excellent idea!

I'm on the other side of the country now but...

Midtown near Herald Square is insanely crowded but it has everything (unique stores: Macy's Desigual)

Further north you have all the higher end stores on fifth ave and Saks/Lord &Taylor.

The Flatiron district (21st and 5th/6th) has a bunch of stores too although they are more spread out and it's a bit off the beaten track.

Soho is great because they have Bloomingdales/Uniqlo/All Saints/all the other standard stores but again, it's still pretty crowded.

It really depends what sort of shopping people are in the mood for. Ann Taylor/Loft/Gap/other chain stores are pretty much everywhere. If I was able to attend *sigh* I'd want to go into the boutique/non-chain stores that I'm normally intimidated to walk into/find hard to comb through since I have the moral support. I'd pick soho or 5th ave.
