YLF Challenge Chain: List of Participants ETA New Names

Lots of interest in doing another YLF Challenge Chain! Also a smidgen of confusion about how it works, and a dash of intimidation. (I hope anyone feeling intimidated will reconsider and take the plunge -- I would feel badly if I had made you think these challenges were a huge or threatening undertaking.) Here is the list of participants thus far. Keep in mind that Angie has asked to be added in towards the end of the process. I only added people who specifically said they were in, not people who merely commented on the other thread, so if you wanted to be in and I left you out, or vice versa, please let me know.

And if you didn't say you wanted in but now you do, that's fine too. This is the first list, not the final list.

Also note that your number on the list has nothing to do with when your challenge will arise, since the order is generated randomly. You could be the final person on the list and still receive the first challenge.

Yay! Thanks for doing this, April. I look forward to it.

I do have a question. How do we generate fun and/ or useful challenges for people who tend not to post on the forum, whose style we may not know? Any suggestions for that?

Or perhaps someone whose name is on this list who falls into that category could help with an idea or two?

Great question, Suz and E. I would suggest a couple of solutions, if a person has not yet posted enough on the forum for others to know what would be an appropriate challenge for that person.

One would be to make the challenge about getting to know the participant: "I challenge Newbie to start with a tee shirt and jeans and then show us three ways you would make the outfit reflect your personal style," or, "I challenge Newbie to find one thing in her closet that either hasn't been worn yet or hasn't been worn enough and incorporate it into both a casual and a dressy outfit."

If people haven't posted much, just the process of getting started with taking pictures and putting them up might be challenge enough. It would be sort of like saying, "I challenge you to let us see more of who you are."

The second would be to ask a couple of questions via PM to get a sense of what the person wants to work on at the moment, and then framing a challenge appropriately.

I should also say that I think it's fine to "steal" a challenge from someone else, if you think it's the right one. No need to reinvent the wheel just to be original.
