Yellow Maxi Dress- Yay or Nay?!

I found this yellow maxi while taking a stroll with my girlie friend on one of the rather famous street markets in Delhi! I didn’t bother to check the silhouette or anything else! The fact that it was a maxi in a beautiful shade of yellow was enough to lure me in to buying it. Plus, the price was SO reasonable. So happily I got it home and did not even waste a second trying it on. However, once I wore it, I realised that the cut/silhouette didn’t flatter my body-type much! I mean I love the colour and the fit on the top, but the lower part has a funny cut which makes me look bigger than I actually am. I quickly got myself clicked in it so as to analyse if this maxi is any good (for me at least). I also wore a necklace to get an idea of how it would look accessorized. Haha!

What do you think? Looking forward to your honest feedback.

I have a poison eye for the pleats thingy in the bottom. always had. So whenever I got dress like that got it cut into midi

This color does look awesome on you. May be make it into midi?If you don't like the pleats like me

Well the fact that you are holding your belly like a pregnant woman in one photo and then holding it up in the other one doesn't help! Makes it hard to make a real judgement... Need to see a real pick where you are not manipulating the dress in any way and just standing there... Lovely colour...

Since I don't share Ramya's poison eye, I like it (my own poison eye is yellow as a main colour, but you obviously love it!) Hey, worst case, you have a sexy modern negligee for a fraction of typical lingerie store prices!

I love maxis (odd one out here!) and this one looks great on you ...... except I am not really fond of frills (too girly for my taste).

But IMO, if you like it, keep it, because it suits you. I can imagine you in the dress with brown espadrilles, a sun hat and a wicker tote ..... strolling on the beach or the farmer's market

Oh you could always use a cardigan or a denim jacket to remove the sexiness out of it Yellow with a blue denim jacket would be just gorgeous!

Yellow is a favourite with me so I instantly find the dress attractive on colour alone. The flounce is spot on if you are after the full vintage seventies look. If not, you could easily remove it and achieve a lovely tea length frock. The neckline is best without accessories as it frames your face nicely and anything else is going to compete, not complement.

I'm with Lantana -- the Maxi has a very '70's look, and it suits you. Removing the ruffle would be an option if you choose a more versatile or classic look. As for flattery, my eye can sort out pretty easily that it's the fabric creating the fullness, rather than your body itself.

I would prefer that the skirt section was one piece, but I still love the dress on you - given how great it looks, I could live with the ruffle!

I personally don't go for ruffles either, but it works well on you and the colour suits you. Wear it for a while and If you decide to make it shorter then so be it. I think you look lovely in it though.

The color suits you very well. I do like the top of it, and I think a denim jacket would debombshell it if you desired. Mi am less certain of the ruffle on the bottom. It makes it fe more youthful to my eye.

That shade of yellow looks great on you. I'm not sure about the bottom ruffle, though. Have you tried pinning it up to see what it would like at midi length?

OMG, you look so good in that yellow.
I never liked the big ruffle they put on ALL the maxi dresses out there. It took me forever to find any that didn't have them. The ruffle looks juvenile to me but you look great in that dress and young enough to pull it off. It looks very sweet, so if you don't mind the sweetness factor than go with it.

I think I agree with Diane, I will wear this maxi a couple of times, and then if I feel like altering the length, I will convert it into a midi.

Thanks for the 3rd photo! The dress is gorgeous on you, wear it with confidence! The colour and even the cut look good--somehow the ruffles and everything work! Not everyone would be able to pull this off, but you do, no question!

What Lantana said. I think it looks pretty on you, and if you don't mind the ruffles, wear with joy. If you do mind the ruffle -- snip it off, and you are good in a midi!
