Yay or Nay: Neon Yellow Sweater Tempered with gray Scarf

I received this sweater last night in the mail from ON. It turned out to be a bit more neon than I expected. Online the color appeared to be a bright green-yellow with no hint of neon. I decided to keep the sweater because the fit was good and the material was really soft. I also have nothing else this color.

I paired the sweater with dark blue skinny jeans tucked into my favorite flat boots. I also thought the color was not the most flattering next to my face so I layered it over a white long-sleeved tee shirt, and layered a sliver gray scarf over it. I think it worked out.

I almost wore it with a deep teal scarf instead but the yellow looked green next to the teal and lost a lot if its sunny-ness. Sunny and cheery were required in today's outfit because temperatures hovered around freezing, and I had to get up early to get to class

Do you think the scarf and white tee worked to temper the color? Would you have kept such a bright sweater?

I really like this on you, especially with the grey scarf. To my eye it tones down the sweater and makes the color pop at the same time.

I think the neon looks great with the gray scarf. Color effects my mood, and perhaps yours too? You look great in this bright color & will be a cheery addition to your class.
The plum colored jacket is very nice too. I love that there may be fewer women in all black clothing this winter.

Lovely! The colour doesn't look too bright to me, and I am all for wearing colour to lift the mood when the weather is bleak. I bet the people around you appreciated it too.

I love this! I have a very bright yellow sweater, too, and I love wearing it with soft colors like gray.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. What is funny about this sweater is the neon-ness really doesn't come through on the pictures. It reads buttery yellow to me -- just like it did online. The color is really close to highlighter yellow.

Thistle - I agree completely gray both tones down and pops bright yellow. I have been in a love affair with soft gray and yellow for probably the past 3 years.

CC - color does affect my mood. I feel better about what I am wearing when its a bright cheery color. If I am wearing black I must wear sparkly jewelry to balance. I gave up wearing plain black coats 20 years ago

The sweater looks great on you! And I love that you paired it with a gray scarf...had it been another neutral, such as a black scarf, it might have looked a bit too drastic/intense. You wear the bright color wonderfully...it's a definite keep!!!
