I'd love a picture of something you feel would be appropriate to wear to a niece's High School graduation. Bonus points if it is suitable for warm weather and can be worn without pumps or fussy shoes There will be a backyard BBQ afterwards if that makes a difference. Thank you!

I don't have a picture. But I think a dress (but not a super fancy one) with a topper and wedge sandals or shoes would do the trick really well.

Skirt would also work -- if it were me, I might wear one of my VC tube skirts.

I know these are not your style, but it sort of gives the flavour. No "precious" feeling fabrics, something you can move in, something that is a bit fun, something you don't mind throwing in the wash afterwards -- yet something feminine and pretty.

Hmm as a pants gal I'd go for trousers or dressy long shorts and a pretty wash-and-wear top with metallic flats. Specific pieces-wise, I'd probably don something like the first look here, or my birthday outfit from last year here. Now to be fair, this is not an event I've had to attend outside my own and my sister's graduation, so I don't know what's acceptable With a BBQ after, I just know I'd want flat shoes and clothes that move.

Thanks, Suz! Great visuals. I have a dress similar to 1 that would probably work then. I had a feeling that a dress would be most appropriate but I haven't been to a high school grad in ages so wasn't 100% sure. Don't worry about "precious"--I'm allergic to that

I do think dressy pants or shorts, as Aida says, could also work really well. So if you have those, why not go for it? I think I go for dresses more in warm weather simply because I tend NOT to wear them throughout our brutal, long winters -- so if I get an opportunity to dress up (even a little) in the warmer months, they are my fall back. I also think you could wear flats or lower heels with a dress or skirt - it's just that I always like a bit of a heel for comfort, myself.

Thanks, Aida! I guess I could definitely stand to own some pants that aren't khakis or jeans! I love your outfits. I'd probably be better off with the tailored short idea--might be better for the heat. You have given me some great ideas and have confirmed my suspicion that these are still pretty casual events. I can't remember the last hs graduation I went to besides my own and that was several decades back!

I can imagine that the dress code these days for a HS graduation is all over the board. You always look pulled together so I'm sure you'll be fine. I think keep it covered and weather appropriate and slightly dressy would work perfectly.

Ha! We posted at the same time, Suz. I will be posting some options soon. My dressy-ish capsule is really in a terrible state. I think my Bermudas are all too worn to pass as dressy since I wear them all summer long. I have a couple of dresses that might work and will post those soon. Having browsed a number of sites, I feel like my dresses all look kind of dated. Not that I have to be current but it's going to be with the hoity toity (for lack of a better term) relatives. I need to get the rest of the troops sorted too. Thanks!

Kelly, I wore this sleeveless cotton sheath dress to my niece's hs graduation a few years ago. I thought it looked happy and it was cool in a muggy auditorium.

Watching with interest as my DS will graduate in a few short months. No clue as to what I will wear yet.

For my son's graduation a number of years ago I wore dress pants and a feminine summer blouse and dressy jewellery. It seemed to be mid range as far as dressiness.
The grad was held at a local theatre with appetizers/drinks in the lobby of the theatre afterwards.
A very hot day but cool in the theatre.
