Sorry about the really awful photo. Would the outfit in #1 work for an afternoon wedding that has a dress code cocktail? It is the same dress as #3 with silk pants added.
Honesty always appreciated.

Caro, when is the wedding? Hopefully when it's a bit cooler:). I like #1 a lot. I do the dress pants thing quite a bit...I like to think that it adds interest and is a bit edgy:). This look is individual but still appropriate. Another option could be dark sheer hose with the booties.

I tried the sheer dark hose & it just felt a bit blah - you know me:) The wedding is next weekend but it's in Tassie so should be cool enough to wear the pants. I think they are actually cooler than hose.

Caro in that case I like the pants. The pants with dress is very you I think:)

Lovely break thank you;). Got home yesterday and I'm on leave until Feb 4... I love being on holiday:). DH is back at work Monday so DS and I will hang out and probably do a bit of going and froing between Bendigo and Melbourne:)

I like #3! The pants and dress combo confuses my eye a little.

#1 could work; it's hard to see the dress. Is the dress lightweight and silky? It might work if with the pants if it is.

Overall it seems like a lot of black for a wedding, and a lot of layers for summer.

Can you change the clutch to something silver or red and the booties for strappy (silver sandals?)

Could you do #3 with nude fishnet/hose and strappy sandals?

I think the pants distract from the gorgeous draping in the skirt, but it could be the picture quality. I am in love with #3, though.

I'm with Isis -- love the drape and interest in the outfit --- over the pants, too. For a wedding, I'd suggest lighter accessories, if you've got em, and microfishnets in nude or perhaps silver? Love your shoes, although the idea of a silver or nude shoe is perhaps more "wedding-ish" Now, wedding dress codes vary a lot from place to place, and I've never been to a wedding in Au, so take that into consideration.

For a summertime afternoon wedding, I prefer # 3 as well -- and you look amazing in it. I do echo Beth Ann's thoughts about ways to further lighten it up if the elements are close to hand.

Thanks everyone, just to clarify - the outfit is navy not black, hard to tell in my pics I know. The only black pieces are the shoes & sandals. The dress in #1 is the same as the dress in #3 & it is pure silk.

It is a gorgeous dress.

I always WANT to love the dress over pants look. But it is hard for my eye to adjust to it, and partly that is because it is hard for my own body to adjust to it. No matter what type of pant I have tried, it never feels comfortable to me -- although this combination (silk plus silk) would be the most likely to work, and I admit, I haven't tried that.

I'm wanting to lighten things up just a touch, too, perhaps with the accessories, but summer temps differ and if you think you'll be comfortable, then I say go for it!

I just can't tell from the photos, Caro. Any chance you can re-take them in light?

I'm also wondering about the chunky black sandal in #3. Perhaps something more refined would be better.

Caro just popped back to look at the additional photos. I also like #6:). Elegant and you look gorgeous. The nude hose and shoes does elongate your legs and kind of bookends with your hair...just lovely. I'm still a fan of the dress over pants:). I think it comes down to what you feel most comfortable with.

I like the dress over pants look. I wonder if leaving off the jacket is an option, given it's summer? Or would that be inappropriate for church where you are? (assuming it is a church wedding)

I think bared arms would lighten up the look without violating a 'cocktail' code, in lieu of 'nude' legs. Otherwise, the sheer or the flower-accented ones look lighter and more playful/summery to me.

In terms of accessories, I think the first purse looks more evening than afternoon to me, and reads 'heavier' due to the dark colour. How about going with the studded or pink instead? For shoes, I rather like the ones in #7 best --- more unexpected than nude pumps, more individual, but lightened up by colour. The bright studs help and bright colour is better still for daytime. A sparkly necklace and/or bright big ring should finish it off nicely.

I quite like it with the pants and the nude pumps. It does bookend your hair and elongate the legline a bit. Plus adds a touch of classic to the eclectic that makes it feel more wedding -ready. I love that studded clutch!!

Again given the summer/afternoon/cocktail info, I love the idea of the pink clutch with #6. However, I know it's the most classic of the looks -- so I wanted to say the better photos of the dress + pants has that outfit running a close second for me.
