WSIW: styling of 70s dress - YouLookFab Forum

I am going to a birthday celebration in the weekend- it will be a big bash- no real dress code but we can get “ our glam on”.

I thought I could wear this 70s esque dress. But how to style it?

Theee bag options and three shoe options. My only other shoe options are black or teal- which I don’t think will work- or boots. It is summer so I don’t think knee high boots feel right.

I have tried with my best three bags. Other options are dark or very casual.

I think big hoop earrings and some more jewelry too.

Which shoes do you like?
1 nude heels
2 gold sandals
3 yellow mules

Which bag?
1 beaded brown clutch
2 pewter clutch
3 yellow crossbody

I am open to mixing up the combos too.

I may change my mind on the dress but I feel like it’s the right vibe for what will be a fun night.

Love, love the dress, Sal. I would try shoes from #1 and the bag from #3. I like shoes in #3 but I don’t like matching shoes and a bag.

Fabulous! I immediately liked the nude shoes but would prefer the bag from pic 2 with that outfit.
The most fun look though, to me, is look 3 with yellow shoes and bag.

Thanks Irina. I am leaning to the first shoes too. I really don’t want to add any new heels when I don’t wear them often.

I think this is a great opportunity to let the dress shine, so I like the subtlety of the nude heels. With that, the second clutch, or a white bag/clutch.

Without seeing Angie’s response, I was going to say shoes from 1 and purse from 2. I think a clutch works better than the cross body bag. Agree that it’s better to use shoes you have vs. looking for another rarely worn pair. Sounds like a fun night!

Oh wow, that is the best dress!!!!! How fun to have an event to dress glam for. You look amazing. I am not good with shoes but I like the second bag the most. Its shape reflects the feeling of the dress, while the metallic finish provides a dressy visual accent.

Where’s the party? To me, that question would determine whether to take a clutch, which would need babysitting anywhere but someone’s home, and a hands free bag that would let me get my groove on in the funkiest disco.

Shoes from 1 & 3 both look great. I’d let dancibility decide there.

Gorgeous dress on you, Sally -- what a beautiful outfit. I love all these combinations, in fact, but for this event prefer shoes in #1 and bag from #2. I love the yellow combo too but that feels more casual.

In winter I plan to wear the dress with brown tall boots and I might wear the beaded clutch then,

I like the yellow but I don’t feel it’s quite right.

Venue is a clubrooms - so a private function. I can leave the clutch somewhere.

I like pink and yellow together I think they're a fun combo. Maybe try the yellow purse when you wear the dress with the brown boots in winter?

Great dress! I think the shoes in 1 are best for the occasion, although if they were gold it would be even more glam! Clutch from #2. Looks like I agree with the prevailing consensus, now that I glanced at the other replies.
