Last work day of a long travel stint - I've been gone from home for 12 days. My best discovery was a few days ago when I checked into a Marriott Courtyard and found they had a laundry room. It was glorious to put on just-out-of-the-dryer pjs that night!

Today I am going for comfort as I am running on fumes: Kit and Ace cropped pants, black metallic sweater, and scarf. For color and fun, red ballet flats I picked up during a 20-minute pass through the local mall yesterday. They're JCrew (who else, right?), cut a little wide at the bunion area so good for my feet, and pretty comfy so far (and on sale).

Thoughts?

I love how you have taken a simple and comfortable outfit to the next level with your scarf and shoes. I especially love the pop of color that the ballet flats give to this look.

12 days - ugh. I cannot even imagine anymore - those trips used to about kill me. Anyways - great shoes! I've been toying with the idea of ballet flats (as per a recent blog post by who - Goop, or Garance? about how to wear them properly and what to buy ) and these are perfect. I think I've fondled them lovingly in store a couple of times. Must keep a further eye out - and red is the best colour ever. You're also reminding me to get out my KA pants - I wore them so much in Jan/Feb I was ready to burn them, but they are good for this transitional weather too, aren't they? Glad to hear you are winging your way home today:)

Lisa, I got these because of you. I swear, I am so fried that I can't make personal decisions any more and when you mentioned them I thought, oh yes, I need those too! So when I saw them I snapped then up. It's a scary, vulnerable time. Please don't suggest anything illegal.

@lisap - can you track down that article you mentioned? I have a number of pairs of (round-toed) ballet flats languishing in my closet and cannot figure out how to make them look chic and not just sensible (the pointed ones I have no problem with, though.) I tried both goop and garance but no luck....

Thanks Lisa! This was a great read, and perfect timing now that spring is coming. (or...will be here in the next 6 weeks.) I'm bookmarking this one. Round toed ballet flats (esp with knee length skirts or full length pants) have always seemed dowdy/too prim to me (maybe because my style already veers in the direction of 'proper'). This gives me some great tips!

Very cute shoes. I haven't travelled for work in decades (maybe centuries) but one of the perks was shopping in different cities. Of course I remember that part and not the awful part about living in a hotel room.

I wear flats almost every day as I am always on my feet, so thanks lisp for the link to the article (although I have a feeling I'm going to want to buy a pair of lace up ballet flats after I read it!). Great little flats! Thanks for sharing that the toe box is wider, mulling over the pink pair now. The red looks great with the black and I can imagine the metallic top adding some great subtle shine, too. Sorry to hear you've been away from home so long. The ballet flats are perfect. Delicate, graceful, and the perfect pop of colour to give your tired feet energy. I love pointed-toe flats for the elegance they add to an outfit without having to resort to heels. These are the perfect 20-minute purchase.

There is nothing I would change about this outfit. You look amazing, classy, luxurious, and, if I may be a bit crass, rich. That's the biggest compliment I can give to a look.
