I’ve been painting a lot this summer. It’s helped me to process my mom’s illness and death earlier this spring.

I paint in my home studio, as opposed to the coworking space where I do my less messy (computer) work. Here’s the kind of thing I wear on “studio days”: eminently destructible, comfy, soft. (Yes those are flared jeans that I hacked off)
Bonus shots of some of the art, and of course my work-from-home colleagues.

First- condolences on loss of your mom. I know It takes a while to get over that “orphaned” feeling. I wish you peace.
Second- love your companions. I am sitting reading and posting with my grand kitty next to me - I think he wants a treat. We only visit 3 times a year but he remembers me as his treat lady;-)
Third- I would think indestructible would be main criteria for working with paint at home. Love the blue peeking from behind apron. Bright colors inspire!
Fourth- interesting pieces and definitely inspired by locale. I love fabrics so I am big on “ tapestry “ type pieces- a friend sent us quite a few when he returned home to China.I enjoy them everyday at my home and enjoy the pieces he sent our daughter when we visit her ( like now). The several paintings we have at home were painted by DH grandfather and so very special to us. Keep painting - it’s therapeutic ( like my sewing and needlework)

I am retired now but when I did work from home I was uncomfortable staying in pjs or lounge wear so I would guilt myself into dressing in work casual- lol. Saw it as motivating I guess.

Creative work has such healing power, doesn't it? It has helped get me through some of the most difficult times in life, too.

You look beautiful and comfortable in your studio outfit, as women in their element so often do.

I like your art! I grew up with an artist (mom) who was also a high school art teacher and later gov't arts administrator. I learned how to properly hang a piece and do art installations when I was 12. I didn't get the gene, ended up a 'jock', and even have trouble applying make-up!

I'm retired, so I guess I 'work at home' most days now,. This is what I'm wearing today, which has included grocery shopping this morning.

You look arty, and clean! Love the colors together. At home I like to wear something simple but nice, like jeans and sweater/t-shirt, so that I don't feel embarrassed to open the door.

You manage to look stylish even when”dressed down”!I tend to wear a scruffy tracksuit and I definitely don’t feel moved to post a picture of that!I m so sorry that you have lost your mother and hope that you will continue to find your art therapeutic in your grief.

You look much more pulled together working at home than I do! I tend to hang out in shorts or jeans and tees, or workout gear, until I need to leave the house. Your hacked jeans look so cute on you.

I like your work too! I’m curious about your process and medium, if you care to share.

I’m thinking very seriously (I’m about 90% sure I’m doing it) about giving up my rented studio space and just working from home again. I have a home office that is well suited to my needs. It’s been 8 years and I feel like I’ve kind of gotten all I’ll get out of that space. I’ll save thousands of dollars a year, which I can use for photo trips. I think I may post in off-topic about the struggles I’m having with this.

I’m sorry about your mom. I’ve been there and know all too well how lost one can feel in the wake of that loss. Creative pursuits can be so healing.

I lost my mom a little over two years ago and remember that grieving/processing time well. It took me about a year to start feeling at all normal again.

I’m also an artist working from home and created a “uniform” for myself for studio days of black ponte pants and a comfy black button-down shirt. Washable is key! I try to wear an apron, but don’t always remember.

So many of us work from home in various forms these days- Runcarla, I think retirement definitely includes working from home, running the household, etc. You look very pulled together in your outfit.
Jenn and Janet, waving at fellow artists. I struggle with the idea of paying for a coworking space, but I do like to separate “messy studio space” from “paperwork/computer work area.” Plus it’s nice to meet other folks and have a place to work outside the house. Re: process, this summer I’m working a lot in gouache, pen and pencil. New combos for me.
Creative work is indeed a blessing. Nothing else like that “flow.”

I work at home, but teaching piano so I'm with people...business casual for me. If I worked at home alone I'd wear whatever I wanted!

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother.

Your outfit looks pretty good for working with paint, actually. At home I wear whatever. Right now we’re in the third week of a heat wave (102 yesterday) so I’ve been wearing shorts, sleeveless tops, and sandals. I’m taking a lapidary class and the grinding wheels are cooled with water, so I end up getting a little wet. I started wearing an old kitchen apron.
