Several weeks ago, when wrapping up Katerina's Color Challenge, Angie asked me to do some outfits with red & purple. She clarified that both "real" red or burgundy would be fine. I took this week off and am running tons of errands, so it is a perfect week to do so.

I have worn six such outfits, three with "real" red and three with burgundy. Occasionally some neutral accessories were added. I discovered that my favorite way to combine two noticeable colors is a column of one color plus topper/coat in the other. Some shades/hues don't match perfectly, but that worked fine in my book. The outfits:

1) (#1-2) This is the only outfit that does not use a column of color. The combo is eggplant + bright red. There is lots of eggplant: cropped kick flare velvet pants, wool coat, booties, and some red: turtleneck, bag and beret.
2) (#3-4) The most unusual color combo: lilac and bright red. Most of it is lilac: cashmere turtleneck, cropped pants, Converse, beret and bag, and it was topped with a bright red coat.
3) (#5-6) More purple and red: purple dress and coat, red knit topper, hat and scarf. Added taupe accessories: tall boots and bag. The tall taupe leather boots that fit my calves were a HEWI and I finally found them last year.
4) (#7-8) Burgundy and eggplant: eggplant dress, booties and beret; burgundy puffer, scarf and bag.
5) (#9-10) Lilac tweed coat over tons of burgundy: turtleneck, coated jeans, Converse, scarf, hat and bag.
6) (#11-12) The inverse of the previous outfit: burgundy coat (and bag) over light purple. The outfit is lavender: twinset an wide leg wool flannel pants, while the scarf and hat are lilac, but since both are pretty light, I think the mismatch wasn't that bad ( I do not own lavender scarf and hat). Added silver booties, to pick up the trim on the twinset.

Outerwear challenge:
1) Eggplant coat (#2 & #6) - from last year's pandemic sales, and already a workhorse, it goes with a lot.
2) Red coat (#4) - older, and not too warm, so doesn't get much wear. Trying to wear it more.
3) Burgundy puffer (#8) -also older, gets good amount of wear, perfectly happy with it, especially for a very inexpensive piece.
4) Lilac tweed coat (#10) - another pandemic 2020 sales find. Like the texture, too early to say how versatile it will be.
5) Burgundy coat (#12) - super old, but in beautiful condition. Love the retro shape and I think I will keep it for as long as it fits me. Got tons of wear the first couple of years, and after that, I think it gets worn about dozen or so times every fall/winter season.
