WIWx3 - early fall BF; slouchy+distressed; red, black, + white

Catching up on WIWs from this week...

1/2: WIW 09.11.12 - This is a more autumnal BF jeans outfit. I felt like the white blazer is a little out of place here, but it may just be that I am not (and will likely never be) 100% comfortable with wearing white.

3/4: WIW 09.12.12 - I loved this one! I belted my Allsaints Big Tee over my super distressed jeans, then added my platform sandals for height. Because Angie had posted about utility jackets that morning, I was inspired to pull out my blue striped jacket which has a similar casual/maximal vibe. I liked the volume over volume effect it gave.

5/6: WIW today 09.13.12 - This skirt is quite old, and I have not worn it at all this summer so I decided to wear it today before deciding what to do with it. Outfit was OK but I think I am going to ditch the skirt. It felt a little too short and poofy for my current tastes, and the waist tie thing has always made me feel like I'm carrying a dishrag in my belt.

I REALLY want you to be comfortable in white because....good grief... you wear it sooooooooo well. #1 is a knock out! One of my Diana faves!

But I love #2 too, and fully understand why you were more comfy in it. It's a very *you* look.

And #5 is super cute! It's longer than the shorts that you wear.

You have totally nailed and refined your style. You have been posting on this forum for years and I see evolution - with each outfit just getting better and better!

Would the skirt work with leggings? The length won't be a problem then. Love all the outfits!

I think you wear white well too. And I also rather liked the last outfit, although I do get the point about the waist tie. Still, it's such a fun colour. Any way of removing that tie? You could perhaps cut it off and sew the ends together, to make a simple seam in the waistband. With black leggings and that top, or another black top, you could probably wear it well into the fall.

Angie, I am totally procrastinating on the wedding dress thing. Also a bit overwhelmed. I have some (possibly unrealistic) ideas of what I want, but when I actually look around online, everything is too poofy, too strapless, too expensive, too much like a wedding CAKE. In any case, we are going at the end of the month to look at venues and pin down a wedding date, so then it will be time to kick things into gear. In the meantime, you should send me ideas! (This goes for everyone here, the more the merrier).

Caro and JR, I used to be very into what I think of as "ballerina style" outfits, with this type of short, poofy skirt, leggings, and ballet flats (pre-bunion). These days, though, I'm preferring my leggings with straighter skirts and more shift-like, waist surrendering dresses. The ballerina style feels a little too young to me nowadays. I think that's why I'm not feeling this skirt as much any more. Regarding the length, it's more the shortness combined with the poofiness, if that makes sense. Like Angie said, I wear my shorts much shorter than this, and I also wear narrower skirts shorter than this. But neither of those feels like it's going to fly up at any second. I DO love the idea of a red skirt though, but I think I need to look for a new one.

Fantastic Diana. No point in wearing something that doesn't feel/look how you want it to - it sounds like you really are zeroing on your style.

I love #3 - what a great top! But I also love the outfits with the white jackets. And I also love how the whole lot works together to produce a sense of Diana style.

Diana, you might check wedding dress patterns, instead of what's available in stores. I know what you mean about the styles. My then fiance told me he couldn't imagine me in lace, but I found a Vogue pattern, very simple, all flowy and not at all wedding cake. ;o)

At one point he was trying to give me suggestions for what I could wear to his graduation (the day before our wedding) and sketched out his ideas. I didn't say a word, because he had just drawn my wedding dress. At least I knew he was going to like it... It was like an angel robe with a cumberbund. LOL. Totally out of style now, at least I don't see anything like it, but if you check the formal occasion patterns (not just the wedding dresses), you might find a similar, more up-to-date jewel.

JR, I hadn't thought to look at sewing patterns... will definitely take a look to get some ideas. I can't sew more than basic seams, though, and don't have a machine! I have no idea how much it would cost to get someone to make something for me. My mom might be able to do it but since we live on opposite coasts it would be difficult for fittings and stuff.

Makrame, I will definitely check out the j crew bridal shop. My friend (who just bought a wedding dress) told me that they are actually opening one soon inside the Boston store. She thought the stuff was rather expensive though... Anthro has a wedding store too called Bholdn, but unfortunately it is only in Chicago and Houston. They have some beautiful things online - I am scared of ordering $$$$ dresses online though!
