Things are starting to get warm here, much to my delight. Yesterday was 30 degrees, so I was revisiting my summer casual clothes. I have realised after reading recent threads that almost all the tops I enjoy wearing are statements - the detail and texture give me the volume I am looking for. This top is no exception and it has the added drama of looking like a undercover vampire when I move. I know black is not the best colour me. One of the problems I have with statement tops is that they often don't play nice with necklaces or scarves. I can see this could be a problem for me with a more neutral wardrobe.. I have made a token effort to look less un-dead with the application of lipstick. Any suggestions for this issue?

I am going to try and take photos on a more regular basis - it was incredibly helpful to see my photos from last summer in planning this summer's clothes.

With statement tops I tend to rely more on makeup too as the upper accessory, or earrings. You are right, often scarfs just don't play well

That is an amazing top, and perfect for Halloween! You don't celebrate that in Australia, though, do you? Maybe you could start a tradition?

I actually think you look terrific in this entire outfit. It's sophisticated yet a bit funky -- very unusual.

What is your source for all these interesting statement tops? Where do you locate them?

Lyn, today is 24 and I am wearing long sleeves. Oh well, summer will be here soon.
Suz, Halloween is starting to become really big here. I had dinner with a friend and came home to find the house in darkness. My husband was hiding with the lights out because he didn't have any lollies for the hoards of children knocking on the door! This top is from Cue http://www.cue.cc , an Australian brand. I buy most of my clothes there and at their sister chain Veronika Maine. http://www.veronikamaine.com.au They usually have dressy smart casual/work wear with a modern edge. What a fun statement top, Sharon. I agree that the lipstick and red earrings are a great addition to add some colour to the black (and your hair, which also has a bit of red in it I think).
Not sure what else to suggest, scarves are harder with statement tops, as you pointed out. If you wear them, specs or sunnies in an interesting colour perhaps. Or a wider bracelet (the red one you are wearing here is a great touch too), or several bracelets or a big watch with sleeveless tops. I know the arm candy party is not close to your face, but to my eye it somehow does help "break up" the darker colour up top).
