WIW...surviving the 'heat dome'

So, 3/4 of North America is reported to be affected by something called a 'heat dome'. Temps are hitting 30degC, but with the humidity it 'feels like' 40degC. Furthermore, there are UV warnings. Since I don't want to stay inside (weeding garden today) it's SPF 60 and loose clothes.

Fabulous. We are in that heat dome too but without the humidity. No breeze either this morning. My outfit is posted on my white pants week thread. I need to get up really early to do some yard work ( before I put on white pants !)

You look great! I love the longer sleeved top with the dark shorts.

It's hot here but we're not part of the heat dome, as far as I can tell. It's only a few degrees hotter than normal and the temps are supposed to go down next week. We've been spending every evening in our pool so haven't minded too much. No humidity either so that helps.

The heat dome is literally sucking the life out of me. I hate hot and humid summer weather as it is, and this has been nuts this summer. I feel claustrophobic stuck in the house with windows closed and AC pumping all day - to the point where I end up lying on the bed wasting the day away. Fortunately, we are in a reprieve right now , and it's a decent 25C today. I've got every window and door open to let in the breeze and the light. Farmers here are also worried about the lack of rain this year, and I'm a little glad we don't have to worry about house foundations, patio cracking etc etc anymore. I'm afraid for the future with such rapid climate change happening now. Evenings in the pool have saved us here too.

It's hitting quite close to 100 (38) here today with a heat index making it feel closer to 110. Tomorrow is supposed to be even worse. And this weekend is a big arts festival that would be fun, but that level of heat + crowds = me not wanting to go anywhere near it.

I'm wearing that loose black mesh-accented dress/coverup I recently got, with a bralette, and staying indoors. I may jump in the pool later.

Not in Texas. We're about average (97) and have yet to hit 100 this year. But this a cute outfit, and (adding a portable awning) is still what I would use to weed the garden in this weather! Good choice!

Cute outfit, and you're braver than I am! It is "only" about 94* F here, with a heat index around 103, so we only have an excessive heat warning, missing the more severe classification by a few degrees. But even so, I cannot bring myself to go outdoors except from house to car to air conditioned building. The kids don't even want to go to the pool because it is too hot (plus, like you mentioned, the UV index is almost as high as it can get).

And while we could use some rain, we had far too much rain this spring- so much so that many farmers couldn't get their crops in in time. So we still have fields lying fallow while the grass is growing so fast it needs to be cut twice a week. Just crazy weather.

Wow, you look fantastic in a dark floral print, and the sleeves are gorgeous.
I live in a permanent heat dome, which has caused me to develop an irrational level of hatred of all things polyester, although I wear it, miserably, to work. The rest of the time it's 100% cotton all the way, all the time.

So cute even when you're gardening! I'm impressed.

It's 95 degrees today with very high humidity, so feels much higher. Its been like that all week. Wearing loose, airy sleeveless dresses every day, with flip flops. Even shorts feel too hot... and I can't stay outside for more than about 10 minutes at a time.

We’ve been in the 90s for two weeks, with the highest temp so far being 99. It’s always hot here in July. We don’t have any humidity, though, like Sara L. No pool, sadly, but we do have AC. I wear shorts or crops, sleeveless tops, and sandals. That’s my summer wardrobe in a nutshell. Yesterday some of my knitting friends came over for a get together. We were talking about sleeveless tops. Some won’t wear them. I say, if you don’t like the look of my upper arms, don’t look at them!

ETA: I do know humidity - I lived in Houston for five years.

DH and I were laughing at the 'heat dome' ... we figure it was named by the same guy who came up with 'polar vortex'. Back in the day, we used to call those things "summer" and "winter" lol!! #geezeralert

Anyways, I am hiding in A/C, wearing only Birkenstocks as they are the most comfy in the heat, and giving up on my hair! SPF when outside is an absolute must! And we are heading to Georgian Bay this weekend where the cold lake temperatures will feel like a balm.

How do you manage to look so cool in such dreadful weather??!!

Our current “feels like” is at 106F. The pool was WAY too crowded today, and I can’t even THINK about wearing goopy sunscreen and bug spray in hot, muggy, swampy weather.... so, we are staying inside with ice cream and A/C

Hair is up in a ponytail. I’ve got a dress on and comfy sandals.
Wishing I was at the beach , but alas I’m miles and miles away. I’m waiting for climate change to make my in land city ocean front lol.

Our strategy is to do all of our outside stuff early and be inside by noon. Today was dog walk, soccer practice, then library and lunch. Spent the afternoon in an AC'd theatre working out blocking for a show coming up in a few weeks (DS had fun helping run the lights). Going for a paddle/swim after dinner -- couldn't bring myself to go out while the sun was high (UV index). Tomorrow I'll squeeze in some garden work early while that part of the yard is in the shade, and then we're headed off to an Apollo 11 commemorative event at a local museum (DS is very into space exploration), and probably back to the pond or river after that, with lots of sunscreen.

As for clothes -- I've got on linen shorts and a very lightweight cotton tee. Same old. I kind of enjoy the heat and humidity as long as I don't have to exert myself, but my husband is miserable in this weather. "It's like the air is giving you a hug," I tell him.

Ditto Torontogirl-it's perfectly normal for us. The "real feel" is 109 but the humidity is only 59% so it's not that bad. Sleeveless dress, sandals, sunnies-same as every other day May-Oct
That said I'm not going to run or bike in the midday sun!

You look great. I’m in my one and only pair of shorts and a linen blouse. It’s okay.

We're below normal here, after a quite early prolonged heat wave of 97-101. Luckily even when we have a bit of humidity it is nothing like the East coast.
I have some barely/maybe not even JFE wider crops that I have yet to find the right lightweight sleeved linen top to go with. In the house I'll wear it with a tank top. Also my sleeveless maxis which for many years haven't be outside other than the backyard.

We couldn’t take any children outside today because the heat index was too high. It was a wild day in summer school!! It’s good that I wore my Ecco Soft 7’s! They have good traction!

It’s was absolutely scorching here today 100 on my deck that’s not including the heat index. Very humid too, I didn’t even bother with my hair today.
I wore a linen dress and sandals all day whilst out and about .
My husband and just took a walk it’s 9: 25 pm and it’s now 88 degrees here. I’m heading up have a shower as I’m so hot. Humidity horrible . We have a bbq to go to tomorrow I’m hoping they have some misting stations set up lol !!

You do look very cute. I mercifully was able to work from home today and fit in some minimal gardening in the evening while my daughter was playing with the sprinkler which misted our small backyard nicely. Otherwise I’m staying mostly inside and doubling down on watermelon-based drinks including cocktails Also let my daughter and two friends stay in the super cool basement watching movies and TV for 6 hours today (scandal!!!). Various outdoor plans have been cancelled for tomorrow.

We are being folded into the heat dome today. Our children and the grands are all joining my sister at their place on the ocean, slathering on the sunscreen and planning to jump in the Atlantic. The water temperature will keep them cool.
DH and I are meeting a realtor to continue the search for our “forever” camp. Today I am thinking that any property with a little beach front will look fabulous. I’ll be wearing a linen dress and coming home to read in AC as soon as we are finished.

DC is the same right now with high humidity. I've been wearing loads of skirts and dresses to work and finally invested in some bermuda shorts. You look very "cool" right now. Pun intended.

Here, we have been lucky to have rather pleasant summer weather so far, today 23 -24 degrees Celsius and sunny. I am thrilled it has not been warmer.

It’s brutal! And our a/c in part of our house went out for a few hours yesterday. But we were able to get someone out to fix it.

Here we call it a heat wave, and it’s been in the upper 90’sF. I’ve been wearing a t shirt and jean shorts and flip flops and staying hydrated doing work outside, and air conditioning inside. For my garden the weather has been great since earlier in the past months we had an excess of rain and cool weather so this has balanced out everything. Just remember to take it easy and don’t over exert yourself and drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Your outfit looks comfortable and cool great choice!
