WIW...so 2017?

Last year wine and olive seemed to be the popular colours to add for F/W 2017. Well, I’ve never been cutting edge! Besides, I’m joining LaPed’s no shopping challenge.

We got our first snowfall of the season and DH and I are off to an afternoon of ‘kitchen bridge’ with another couple so warm and comfortable it is.

Sweater - Cynthia Rowley (2 years old)
Velvet jeans - Calvin Klein (1 year old)
Boots - Franco Sarto (4 years old)
Wool scarf - gift (6 years old)

Agreeing with Anchie, and im wearing wine and olive today too, so well be 2017 together. But wine and olive reminds me of Italy and Greece, which are much nicer to think about than snow!

Gorgeous, especially the scarf!

Olive is a year-round staple for me, and I don't think I'll ever tire of deep reds and burgundies when it's cold out.

Getting the same snow over here. I'm not ready for it!

I think colours should have nothing to do with trends and everything to do with what looks good on you. Of course the trends will dictate when you can buy them, but hopefully not when you wear them!

Funny, I was just thinking that I'd not worn any of my olive pieces at all this fall/winter - and it was all I wore last year. I think I just got olived-out, but will always hang on to the better pieces as I still consider it a classic colour . And whatever kitchen-bridge is, it sounds like the perfect thing to do in retirement !

Thanks for the endorsements. I agree (with Elizabeth P and others), that if a colour works it transcends trends. That said, last year was good for acquiring olive and wine coloured items, and those colours were popular with fabbers!

Rachylou, with 'leftovers' and summer aquasitions, I seem to have inadvertently created a mini capsule (see pic below). The olive sweater is one of those treasures - fine merino wool, but not sheer. Pill proof after several years. Soft and warm for cold days. I usually wear it with jeans or black pants, but was craving a bit of colour - no matter how subdued.

Lisap - 'kitchen bridge' is 'no pressure' bridge. We get together with a couple and play a set of games, changing up partners so everyone plays with everyone. We have a break and snacks, and will even talk about strategy or 'conventions' - so there is a learning opportunity. We are part of an organized group of about a dozen couples that do this over the winter.

YLF Carla! I love my olives, but don't have wine in my closet any more ( only in my kitchen!) Olive has been a staple in my wardrobe since 2013 and I am always keeping an eye out for more.
Love your scarf.
Your hair looks different to usual- straighter I think.

I’m with Elizabeth — for me, colors are independent of trend. Trendy colors are only relevant to me in that they become more popular at retail, and it becomes easier or harder to find my preferred colors as trends wax and wane. Right now is one of those times that is helping me hang onto my shopping dollars, as I’m not loving a lot of the trendy colors or they don’t suit me.

I think your olives look amazing on you, and you look perfectly current!

What I noticed while outside in the snow yesterday is how great red and burgundy look against a monochromatic backdrop. I love pictures of red things in the snow (cardinals, barns, holly), so it's no wonder this is my favorite time of year to wear red and burgundy.

I'll join you in being so last year. I am also wearing last year's olive and burgundy...even more than last year as I finally found a few supporting accessories for those colors. Maybe next year I will wear mustard
