Just a few WIWs for the colder temps of November here in the Great White North.

Photo 1 - Yep, I went with my tried and true denim, paired it with a newer patterned jersey polo from Simons and a black packable down puffer vest from Lole for some extra warmth.

Photo 2 - Finished off the previous outfit with a thrifted navy quilted jacket I bought last spring and my newly acquired Lambert crossbody bag. Heading out to do some shopping for my son's new apartment. He seems to trust my taste in decor, lol.

Photo 3- Yes, it's true I do wear a lot of denim and the colour blue, but here I FINALLY changed things up. Had a dressier occasion to attend, so I went with my lilac Uniqlo cashmere sweater and some taupish ponte wide-legs. Wore my mary jane shoes to complete this outfit.

Does anyone else find it difficult to break away from wearing the same sort of colours, patterns, or clothing items?

Oh! Yes! I’m a uniform dresser, and sometimes think I’d be happy wearing a pair of 501 jeans, a crew neck merino, and a pair of low top Cons every day.

The sweater in pic #3 is a beautiful colour for you!

I think if you keep wearing the same things it is a sign you chose well for lifestyle, comfort, and occasion.

I do tend to wear some of the same things. I enjoy blues too and enjoy wearing the same blue fair isle sweater every fall/winter sometimes for days in a row. I happily wear my knee-length winter puffer coat in an ink blue, from Nov/Dec until March every day for years, but I enjoy the coat because I love the colour and it is warm but light.

Love it all. You do make blue look like more of a basic, like a black than I do. When I do a lot of blue I get overwhelmed, probably because I do all sorts--navies, aquas, etc. It feels very oceany/beachy to me.

I actually default to pinkish lavenders, much like the sweater in your last photo. I SHOULD wear more greens, with my coloring, but find that a lot of them are "loaded" with associations for me, so I don't do it too often. Much like too much blue is "oceany," the wrong green can be "Brady Bunch," or something else.

The lilac cashmere is a great piece on you, Dee. It highlights your long neck and is very flattering ! As to your question, I find that when I try to break away from my usual colours and styles, I end up with too many pieces I don't wear and don't know what to do with . My closet is currently in just that state after a fall season of buying quite a bit .

I agree, that lilac sweater is really nice on you!

I do default to certain styles and especially colors, but I decided some time back to lean into it and embrace my preferred color palette — it suits me and it makes my wardrobe fairly cohesive. So I have a closet dominant in black, grey, white, blues, greens, and a bit of reds and rust. When I go too much outside of that preference I’ve learned that I’m more likely to have a wardrobe orphan.

To answer your question: I've slowly added toffees and other carefully chosen browns to my wardrobe over the last four years - (my darker blonde hair was the catalyst for change in 2021). I remix the browns with signature sour brights, whites and my blues. It's a very enjoyable style evolution! The integration is seamless and natural. I also love that it reminds me of my late earth-tone-loving Mama.

Your son must want a blue apartment! Seriously, blue looks great on you.

I branched out from my very strict blue and grey wardrobe after buying a Radley Scottie bag. I had practically no black, and I also added red. Then I needed shoes to go, and pretty soon clothes are flowing out of my closet like lava. I only have a few regrets, however, because I’m reminded of Mr Skunky (not his real name), who we lost a couple years ago.

JAILEEN- I can see how a sentimental novelty purchase can avalanche into buying lots of items to support it.

ANGIE- Appreciate your kind words, and your brown, toffee, caramel etc.. capsule has been a fun colour evolution to witness., its perfect for you. Wonderful too, that it reminds you of your mom.

JANET- Yes, I agree sometimes experimenting too far into other colours can lead to closet orphans.

LJP- Yep, It can be disorienting when we leave our typical style/colour comfort zone. I was pretty lost when I bought barrel jeans, it took awhile to sort my wardrobe out when I added them.

RUNCARLA- Haha, I love wearing my Levis 501s too, they are my most worn pair of jeans.

CAROL-Dark Blue is my dominant neutral, funny I've never combined it in such a way that it feels really beachy.

BLUEJAY Yay! Another fellow blue lover. You're right sometimes it just finally understanding what works best for us.

You look lovely in blue and if it’s your favourite colour why not wear it. I tend to stick to black my favourite but I have added a bit of brown this year. I’ll never venture too far from black white and grey as from experience I always revert to my favourites and the new colour gets left unused.

Dee I can see why you wear a lot of blue. You look so good in it. Also in the dusty mauve colour. I agree with ANGIE that you need to embellish the capsule. As I posted recently black works for me most of the time. I have broken with my grays and bright cool colours since changing my hair colour and have embraced warmer ones. Black works with both for me, as does dark denim. So they are pretty constant.

Blue is great color - my favorite as well ( not tired of it so far - mixing with white/black, a bit of green and occasional double denim ). Lilac is gorgeous on you - hope you'll add more of it !

You look lovely and very much “yourself” in these outfits.
I do like variety and have a lot of different colours but in our winter I wear the same shapes day after day- slim pants with a mockneck and knitwear. Comfortable and warm, and attractive enough looking to keep me happy.

Well, you know I'm never going to complain about a blue outfit.

Seriously, it's a fabulous colour for you and so versatile. (Love your new thrifted coat, by the way).

But the lilac and taupe are a fab change up for you and I think you should definitely add to the lilac capsule!

I just placed a big order at Simon's myself, including a purple cashmere sweater and several merino items. Crossing fingers, because I don't know if the sizing chart is accurate. But if I need to return, I will....

I tend to stick pretty closely to my preferred blues, white, greys and reds with the odd bt of lilac thrown in. But the greys are a new addition since my hair turned grey -- much as Angie describes with her new toffee items, I only began adding grey items when there was a catalyst for doing so. Unlike her, though, I tend to avoid grey outerwear, because while I love grey and think it suits me, too much of it makes me feel sad.

I'm also open to the occasional wild card. I've just ordered a yellow (gasp!) sweater to try.

Winter is the season when I fall in a routine of wearing the same kind of outfits, either extra warm sweatpants or jeans with turtlenecks. It is hard to get away from it. I don’t have a desire to wear different colors, changing silhouettes is not practical. No wonder that I get so bored with my winter clothes.

IRINA I have the same dressing pattern as you in winter. My lifestyle and the weather just does not accommodate changing it. I relish Spring when I can get out and about in more interesting outfits.

I'm a happy uniform dresser, and a lover of a good column of color, so I really like your blues. The lilac sweater is a lovely color on you.

I totally understand about leaning in to the colors you love. I certainly do that. I wear dark brown year round, with the addition of some lighter browns in spring summer, plus dark blues/navy and cream in that season. Cranberry and plum are also prime winter players.

Nice! I like both outfits. You look very pretty in # 3 and as someone who does not care for bags, I have to say that your bag attracted my attention - minimal and elegant!
To answer your question: yes, I find it rather difficult to break away from my usual cool colors and neat silhouettes. But one of my 2025 goals was to try warmer colors and I was able to do it, even if in small amounts. That said, blue will always be the color that makes me feel fabulous.

Your lilac outfit is excellent and you look just as fab in blue. I do fall into patterns and tend to form loose capsules that I wear for a while until I get tired of it and make a change.

SISI- Small doses of a new colour seems a sensible way to see if you're going to like it or not.

IRINA- You've still got a fab style but the winters are so long, its hard not to get a little tired of our wardrobes by the time it's all over.
