WIW....for casual Friday ( thanks NicoleD!)

A week or two ago I posted about how I 'don't do casual' at work, and NicoleD challenged me to use the opportunity of casual Fridays to explore a dressed down look that would help me transition to retirement, since one of my goals is to shift my wardrobe in that direction over the next two years leading up to my departure from the cubicle farm.

Then last night I stumbled upon an image of a purple cardi topping brown pants. I LOVE my purple cotton sweater, but I would never have thought to pair it with brown! I don't have any light tops, but this is WIW for casual Friday.

The purple/brown combination works really well.

I have 5 years to go and was thinking that my closet won't need to be as large after I retire since I won't need as much variety. I am looking forward to it.

Purple (in all its variations) and brown are one of my all time favorite color combinations. I love it! I actually like yours even more than the inspiration photo, so how's that for love?!? You look great!

Challenge well done! I'm glad to take credit for suggesting such a cool interpretation of the inspiration. I love the cozy scarf instead of the more fussy pussy bow blouse to take it from office to casual (although could still work really well in my office). And the soft boots make it more transitional too. Love the purple on you and what a great bag! Good job pushing the envelope!

Well I really don't think the challenge to more casual dressing is going to be too difficult for you based on this look. I prefer your intepretation to the inspiration look. That is a lovely scarf by the way.

Thanks all, for the endorsement of this outfit. The comfort level couldn't have been higher, and Rae hit the nail on the head...I felt like me.

I've loved purple forever, and spent years in denial out of concern that it was too little girl (pink and purple overkill in that dept.), or from a certain era (70's?) but when the velvet blazer crept into my wardrobe it opened the flood gates. Still, I have never paired the colour with brown!
