Though I’m starting to add brown to my closet, black is the dominant dark neutral at 20% of the items. Yesterday, and today, I paired brown with black - #1 for an urban ramble, and #2 for grocery shopping. Interestingly, the browns were patterns - plaid (pants), check (flannel shirt) and floral (turtleneck).
Mixing dark with dark (black and blue, black and dark green, black with brown) for a low contrast look appeals to me more than the high contrast look of light with dark.
