WIW...black and blue and mixed media!

Something new! Scored this mixed media skirt unexpectedly, and on sale. I'm a leather snob, but this faux leather is so lovely and soft, and the skirt is beautifully lined. Regular size was a bit short, so sized up and wear on hips vs waist for an extra bit of length. Now able to retire ancient and pilled black pencil skirt.

This is my first ever styling of skirt with booties. Should I be pairing with darker tights? Comments, styling ideas welcomed. Thanks for looking!

I think this looks great on you!

I (personally) prefer to wear my booties with fully opaque tights, but I'm a dabbler. I've tried, but haven't been able to fully embrace the bootie with skirts look. I always feel just a smidge less than fabulous, unless it is my black booties with black opaque tights.

(BTW, we're the turtleneck and mixed media pencil skirt twins today! And I almost wore my booties with mine too!)

Yay for another Sears find! Love this skirt on you Carla and the pairing with the navy turtleneck is fabulous. I don't mind the hose with the booties at all.

Great skirt and love the blue and black combo. I think the ankle boots looks nice with the skirt. This time of year is changeling for me on the hose vs tights. I prefer tights but too hot.

I'm a great fan of black n blue and this looks fab Carla. Thumbs up on the hose too, I think they look elegant. Check out Pamela Mann, a UK site. She has gorgeous hose, funky styles too.well worth a look. Penny.

I feel you, Runcarla! The doubts you express regarding the weight of the tights often plague me. I can't clearly explain why, but I prefer booties with light-weight tights (or no tights whatsoever). So your pairing is the best to my eyes!

Such preference became clear to me after my last WIW. However, it seems that favoring tall boots for heavy-weight (80+), opaque tights is not at all a mainstream taste. I'm open to YLFabbers' comments on why they prefer darker (or lighter, depending on individual preference) tights with booties!

YLF! The sweater is a beautiful colour and the mixed textures look great together. I think I would prefer darker hose with the skirt and booties, but the ones you have on look good, too.

That skirt is a great find! I always find Sears rather disorganized and difficult to navigate, both online and in stores. Is that the case everywhere? Seriously, I would put ours on par with shopping at Winners experience-wise.

I love this! the sweater is perfect on you, and such a lovely shade. The skirt looks fab, and I love the black hose to tie in the booties. It keeps it from being stumifying and creates a long line to my eye.

I also really like the sheer black hose. Really adds to the look, far more so than tights or even nude hose.

For the past 2 seasons I have been enjoying the dark blue and black combinations. I love Sears myself and that's a nice skirt.

I know what you mean about faux leather I had a good experience recently too that changed my mind too. I'd been in the market for a light brown, cognac or gray leather jacket and because I'd just bought a leather jacket in dark brown I did not want to spend more just because I wanted a different color. So I'm in Dress Barn of all places and they have all of these yummy colors in faux leather jackets. I wasn't expecting much but I was open and was pleasantly surprised by the soft pliability and nice feel of it. Faux leather has come a long way from old school plastic. I'll be debuting that new jacket on the forum next week.

Fab look. I struggle with booties with skirts, but these fit well at the ankle and look more streamlined. I think you have several tights options--the sheer ones work fine, give a good tonal leg line, and allow for warmer weather; black or dark charcoal or a textured opaque would also look good for colder days (that's me though; always need keep-warm options).

Thanks everyone, for the boost to my confidence, and the sartorial wisdom. Pictures are really so useful, so I think I will next try an opaque tight, and then maybe a nude hose or micro fishnet and take pics for comparison.

I'm thinking a higher heeled bootie would make a nicer line. These are so comfortable, and they are sleek and fit nicely at the ankle, though.

Our local Sears really is a jumble, and it is hit or miss. The white jacket I wore all summer and my navy blue Clark leather pumps are from there. Right now they have an amazing selection of colour block sheaths that I am trying to resist.

My B+M choices really are quite limited! I'm so looking forward to the shopping trip to Toronto with DH in a couple of weeks?
