WIW...battling bugs with colour

I am happy to have made it through an entire month posting weekly WIWs. I hope to put it all together to see some themes and holes. So last week I had my second DS home with the nasty flu. The week before was older DS, and throughout it all I've been fighting some sort of devil-bug. One day I feel okay, but by day's end I feel rotten. Today it's gotten a stronghold and I feel miserable. I'll think about whether I show that nasty pic next week or not So, here's my week. Looking paler and paler yet I tried to fight off the blahs with a few injections of colour:

1) 1/27/15 - Home day. Gap sweater, AE Jegging jeans, Frye boots, random handknit beanie
2) 1/28/15 - Home day - BR grey checked shirt, Vigoss BFs, Fossil belt, Clarks booties
3) 1/29/15 Wore to a belated bday sushi lunch. You would laugh to see how many times I changed my bottoms. My DS, who was home sick lying on my bed, could NOT believe what I was doing. He rolled his eyes. I was happy when I finally defaulted to white bottoms. Phew. Vince sweater over new JCrew tunic collared shirt (I'm still trying to get this whole sweater over shirt thing to work. This shirt is finally plenty long, but later that week I figured that it still isn't working on this one b/c the bottom isn't split - it's a tunic so does funny things. Argh. Oh well. It was cheap. Clarks cognac workhorse booties.
4) Added grey coat and Cognac coach purse. Didn't need the coat - we hit 14 degrees and sunshine - what a treat!
5) 1/30/15 Feeling progressively worse, so brightening up the colours! Tangerine Zara top, ON tank, F21 grey jeans, Clarks booties. Took the scarf on...but
6) Totally frump-a-lized it with the jacket. Oh well.
7) 1/31/15 - lots of errands and hockey ices times - sorry for the dark photo - purple Vince cashmere sweater with Vigoss BFs. SW booties.
8) 2/01/15 - the rain came back. Again poor photography - it looks so dark but the top is a black and grey cashmere sweater over plaid stretch pants with faux fur infinity scarf, grey coat and SW Booties.
9) whoa embarrassed of this photo but it shows the patterns better. BAD hair - spent a lot of time in the rain with the doggies. My regular stud earrings are missing a backing so I put on a new pair of danglies that my sister gave me for my bday. Back to the post on frumpy earrings....uh oh. Not a good pairing with the specs, but again, not feeling hot or healthy in the least so I couldn't really care. Oh dear.

I found that I was really loving wearing the royal blue in #3. I really only started wearing that colour last summer, and think it might be nice to add some more of this to my winter wardrobe. What do you think? Comments welcome. Oh, duly noted that I need to wear blush

I think these outfits look great. I really look forward to you posting what you've learned (themes, holes, etc.). This is such a reflective process. I'm sure I would benefit from your learning as I enjoy your style. I'm trying to look at each outfit I create and ask "What would make this better?". Not sure if that would help you -- but might provide another angle to your learning.

Just an observation, but you have a similar line to your pants and boots in most outfits (except the moto boots - they add a twist) in this post. IF you are looking for more range, you might look into this area of your outfits. And then again, when you look over the entire month, you might have lots of diversity.

I'm trying to give you some food for thought but it looks like you really excel in crafting your style/outfits.

These are all really good looks, but I absolutely love the cobalt sweater with the blue blouse/ white jeans/ grey coat, and cognac accessories. What a great colour combination on you.

I also have a tendency to default into grey and black a lot. Today that was the plan, but I picked up whatever bug my dsighted had last week, and the gray didn't work, bright pink was worse because of the red nose and so I also went for some blues to be less zombified looking.

It's grotty to feel grotty, and I hope you feel better soon. It seems to take us WEEKS to get over a cold these days - nasty stuff. This was not the case 20 years ago. Very odd.

You look very well put together and hip despite being ill, Jackie. WOW.

Chic and boyish in #2.

#4 is a killer casual outfit, and #5 is bright and happy.

#8 and #9 are Urban and more Hard Edge, but just as fabulous. You are stylish no matter what. Sending feel better energy your way. Much love. xo

Aw, I hope you feel better soon! You look great in all of these. My favorites are the blue sweater (definitely add more!) and your grey coat. Your cognac accents are also great.

I've never managed to get the sweater over shirt look working either. I am always fussing with something and have given up on it. But you look great in it, so good luck finding the perfect combo!

Ugh - sorry to hear that you are living in the house of sick these days. Always seems to happen in winter when no-one feels up to much as it is. Anyways, lots of great pieces here - especially those plaid pants. Not many people look good in plaid stretch pants, but you sure do! I'd kill for your legs , honey.

I like you in royal blue ! I also go back and forth with that colour- sometimes it seems too mall-ish, if you know what I mean, then other seasons it looks right. And totally know what you mean about this shirt-under sweater thing. I've decided it's not worth the work - too fussy looking. Anyways - hope you feel better soon

My hands down favourite is 1, that hat is perfect on you, I love it!! I very much like all the rest too, especially your great coats and jeans. I do agree the jacket on 6 is not quite right but sometimes you just have to wear a jacket!!

Jackie, you look amazing no matter what. I love every one of these! But I totally hear you on the colour and have to admit that I perked up, too, seeing you in the royal blue and the tangerine. I hope your family gets better soon -- and you, too!

Oh, and I am also SO WITH you on the sweater over loose shirt thing...I can do it with regular lengths but then the tails of the shirt don't always show. And anything else? Forget it!!

Nothing worse than having to hold up against an onslaught of sick and infectious kids - who need nursing at that. But you managed to look fantastic throughout. Love your coat and your workhouse cognac booties, which work with everything!

Ugh so generous of the kids to share their bugs but that's kids for you! You look great in all of these outfits and I don't know that I could pick a favourite. Look after yourself and stay warm!

Such a pity you're under the weather. I've noticed this year's flu virus hangs around for weeks. But still, you look terrific. You have a lot of diversity in a very consistent silhouette. It really works for you. Get well soon!

I like you in colours, Jackie, and I think a dash of colour can work wonders when your feeling under par. I particularly like the tangerine on you, but the blue looks good, too. 4-6 are my favouties, but all are very good.

well, you've made me wonder how I've managed to get by without a pair of cognac booties! they look fab with all the outfits and you've got them completing so many outfits. you may not be feeling well, but you're looking great. hope you and your family are feeling better soon.

Angie is right, 20 years ago it was never this bad. Yes, approprio, it seems this bug hangs on for weeks on end...ugh.
AM - good points on the jean/bootie silhouette. I have plenty of footwear options, but these are my newest and most comfy booties so I'm wearing the heck out of them. Good point to consider switching it up

If you hadn't mentioned that you were sick, I would never have known. I think these are all good outfits and you look comfortable and stylish. I think you're being a little hard on yourself (maybe because you're not feeling well?). I see no frump.

#1 is super cute - not easy to pull of a hat, I cannot do it and you look great. Also like the more close-up photo - can definitely see details better.
#3-4 is perfect, and love the image of your DS rolling his eyes as the pile of bottoms mounted up! White was the way to go, and the collar pop is awesome.

You look great despite being sick. Love the cognac touches. I can never get the sweater over the shirt look right so I gave up. Probably for the best. Looks good on you.
