This time I wore the shirt under a sweater, with the collar buttoned up. When I first styled the shirt with sweaters, the profile of the pockets (with button down flaps) showed through. I got out my trusty seam ripper and removed the pockets and flaps, gave the shirt a quick press - and voila! - no show through. The removal of the pockets also knocks down the ‘western’ feel of the shirt.

Went for a walk - started out cool and over cast. Then a light rain (#4) By the time we had our big up hill climb home, the sun came out (#5) and the beret, gloves, and jacket were off and over my arm!

#3 is our independent bookstore - Furby’s. Closed to the public now, but taking orders and doing deliveries.

I love how you made the shirt more useful by removing the pockets. It’s a great accent to the sweater, and a perfect complement to your other red pieces. The name of the bookstore makes me smile- reminds me of the toy, even though a quick perusal of the internet reveals the two are unrelated.

@nemosmom - I will probably wear the shirt alone as a topper, but today I needed the warmth of the sweater. I think it is better for me, without the pockets, since I’m not really into the western thing. The gingham check, pearl snaps, and shoulder detail are enough.

LOL - I’m squeezing a lot out of this thrift shop cheap-ey! I’ve probably spent more on starch for ironing, than on the actual garment.

@CarolS - thanks! Overdue for a cut (like many). I don’t colour, so no issues there, but by the end of this I could be on team BIG HAIR!

Oh that collar looks FAB with that sweater. Your whole outfit is nicely styled! Good call on removing the pocket. You can't even tell that there was one.

That collar is everything! I'm often scared to go for very pointed things because I have soft features (& curly hair like you) but sometimes the contrast can be great - have some similarly shaped long earrings that always garner compliments whenever I wear them, even though they technically 'shouldn't' work for me. Confidence makes a big difference!

Also a slight aside, I wanted to ask you a little about your hair if that's ok? I love how you have lots of volume up top & well defined curls, even without a closely cropped style. How do you do it? I always struggle with flat top syndrome, despite using the Curly approved Methods, so I usually just resort to piling it on top of my head instead haha. What's the secret to your fabulous?

@ Zaeobi - as my hair gets longer, the curl gets pulled out. I get it cut every 3 months and have about 2 inches cut off in an inverted bob shape. I ask for it to be ‘just below the earlobe when wet/pulled straight.’ I think the longest (top) layer is 6 inches and everything else is shorter. This works for my curl type. I use a drug store leave in conditioner and let it air dry. I would need layers if I was to go longer and keep a really curly style. I’m due for the cut, but of course won’t be able to have one. Results will be varied over the coming weeks and months!

#1 - just after a cut and blow dry
#2 - the very next day - air dryed
