WIW...6 hours at the mall!

Once or twice a year DH and I make a trip to a very nice mall in Toronto called ‘Yorkdale Mall’. It has a Nordstrom’s, Holt Renfrew, and The Bay department stores as well as many other chains. Several designers have actual stores in the mall, as well as Tesla and Dyson stores!

After our annual closet edit in October, we scheduled the trip - early enough to avoid the Black Friday madness, and Christmas craziness. List in hand, we set out, arriving at 10 am. After a quick tour to reconnaissance the space, we got serious. I enjoyed the window shopping, and people watching. The crowd at Yorkdale do dress up! We were shopped out by 4 pm

#1 What I wore (minus black pea coat)
# 2 Fendi window
# 3 Dior window
# 4 Louis Vuitton had a DJ!
#5 for Angie
#6 The Bay
# 7 arrived home safe and sound. Folks who know me from what I post on the forum will KNOW what I came away with from the clues in this photo!

Fun to see a glimpse of your day! I love the maximalism of the Dior window.

I'm going to guess that the magazine you are holding means you bought nothing! I remember you talking about your strategy of rewarding yourself for restraint/making a shopping expedition feel like less of a wash by treating yourself to a fashion mag.

Would love to know what DH got!

I love Yorkdale Mall. My idea of a shopping experience Love the Fendi window in particular. I'm not swift enough to deduce what you bought, so I look foward to finding out!

What great pictures and I love your shopping outfit. I love the combination of the wider pants with the boots and the contrast with the scarf and sporty vibe. I will say you got something on your list! That red jacket is gorgeous.

I love Yorkdale Mall but never seem to get there. I am not great at guessing what you bought but I seem to remember that you felt your wardrobe was in great shape. Maybe nothing.

Looks like your husband did well! I seem to recall that this trip was for him, so I’m guessing you got the magazine for yourself. I love how your scarf migrated to your bag by the end of the day.

Your outfit for shopping day is pretty perfect - casual with interesting color combination. Love the scarf - on the neck and tied to a bag! Hope you got couple things for yourself in those bags ( shoes maybe?..).

The trip was mostly about replenishing DH’s closet, but we went in prepared to leave empty handed - so no stress. DH has lost 20 lbs since we retired - 10lbs last summer, and another 10 lbs this summer. Down to a trim 36in waist! Pants took a hit during the fall closet cull, and layering T’s needed replacing. We picked up 3 T-shirts from Lululemon, 2 pair blue/grey jeans style pants from Hugo Boss, 2 fancy-smancy Italian ‘flannel’ shirts from Harry Rosen (cashmere and cotton!) and a mixed media drivers cap. Photos don’t do the garment colours justice. Blues and a range of greys. No black.

I could have come home with a dozen striped sweaters, but couldn’t find the low heeled - high shaft booties I want. THAT search continues. The new (week old) combat boots were a dream to wear and will probably make the MVP (most valuable player) list for F/W 2019-2020. I rewarded/consoled myself with the magazine!

@Kathie, slim cat - it was COLD this morning, and with short hair a scarf is a must for warmth. However, shopping is hot work! Good pick-up to notice the migration of the scarf.

I appreciate your description of planning purchases ahead of time, and also how you strategically partnered with DH to be most efficient at the mall. I have learned from you, and have tried to become more strategic with my shopping. I am excited to see all the great stores in Toronto’s Yorkdale mall, especially Furla! I have one Furla handbag, wonderful quality, that I have been using exclusively since April 2018, and it still looks pristine! I would love one in a darker color for Fall/Winter. I can imagine a weekend road trip!

Does the Yorkdale mall have clothing for tall men? DH and DS struggle to find clothes that fit. They are 6’3”, and 6’5” and have lanky arms, long torsos, and long legs.

I salute your courage in going to Yorkdale in any sort of proximity to Christmas shopping - I hope the 401 and the Allen were kind to you!! Such a great mall - once you're inside

@Staysfit - DH is 6ft 2in, and the DS’s are 6ft 3in and 6ft 4.5in respectively with perhaps disproportionately long arms and legs. Most stores/chains are a bust, but the high end stores seem to carry ‘tall’ sizes or longer/unfinished inseams. DH wants a pair of Lulu ABC pants for curling, but the longest in store was a 34inseam and too short. We are going to order the ‘tall/long’ online. The SA said the inseam is 37in. My super tall son is a very hard fit with his 32/33 waist and 38 inseam. When he finds pants that fit he buys duplicates or more. He scored at a Canadian store called Simons in Ottawa and some Asian line of raw denim from a local shop a few years back. We will order from Lands’ End as well, for their selection of tall items (recent purchases = pj bottoms). Nautica seems to design for slim bodies with long arms, and we have had success with jackets and sweaters from that line. The problem is that not all tall men are BIG and tall! Some can be slim and tall and those big boxy fits aren’t a good look.

Sympathies for the difficulty finding clothes for the super tall men in your life. I have a very hard time finding items for hubs and my stepsons (they range from 6’5”-6’7” with long narrow torsos and limbs). Everything XL is cut too wide for them. Hubs has to have shirts for work custom made (Proper Cloth has been a godsend!). Jeans need to be at least 36” inseam but even that can be inadequate. It’s a real challenge!

Wow you are so organized! That sounds like a wonderful mall...I remember visiting a Holt Renfrew in Montreal quite a few years ago and almost literally drooling over a Armani leather blazer - softest leather I've ever felt. Glad you got a good bunch of stuff for DH.

Such great purchases in rich colors! Thanks for notes on tall, not wide, clothing for men. At 6'1" and still growing, my son probably can't stay in the "dressy sweats" he loves much longer. You're brave to wear such new shoes for such a long trip--glad they worked out so well! The Furla store on Ku'damm is very near Karen Millen and COS. I think of Angie & the forum every time I go past there.
