WIW: Yellow Bag Missing & Shannon Inspiration

Lately, I've become a lot more active on Pinterest. I find a lot of inspiration there, and try to play around with the outfits, shapes or color combinations I pin. I also find a lot of inspiration here in YLF, of course, like in this WIW from Shannon a couple of weeks ago.

My inspiration for this outfit started with Shannon's WIW and the outfit in #1, with the yellow, grey and white colors. I find this color combination so fresh and now. What do I have to play with? White jeans, white belt, grey t-shirt and a yellow polka dot scarf in cotton, white cons, and a blue-grey blazer. The first version (#2) didn't feel right. Too casual for work. Enter blue-grey blazer (#3), which helped a little, but the scarf felt so wrong! Finally, I ended up with #4, a very simple outfit, but I felt good. DH commented that I looked very good, so that settled it. I wore #4 all day yesterday, and changed into a chambray shirt as topper when I came home from work.

My style rubric at the moment is Playful, Chic, Simple Modern Classic.

Is this playful? Not really. I miss a yellow bag! That could have made it more playful.
Chic? I hope so.
Simple? I think yes.
Modern? Updated blazer and jeans
Classic? All elements are classic pieces: Blazer, v-neck tee, white jeans, Cons.

I ended up removing one of the three colors that inspired me in the first place to achieve a simpler look. A yellow bag would have made it more fun. Ergo: I want (need) a yellow bag!

What do you think? Should I kept the scarf on?

I so enjoyed reading your thought process and I get what you mean about the pros and cons (accidental pun there!) of the different iterations. 4 is fab; and you need a yellow bag... totally enabling you

4 is excellent. Your husband loves it because he can see your lovely neck and jaw and shoulders! A yellow bag would be perfect.

Four seems all you aspire to. The Cons make it playful too. A yellow bag would be wonderful. I was thinking that other ways to add yellow while keeping it simple would be a yellow belt or shoes or bangles.

Love this muted color palette and esp. #4. I wonder if you could tie the yellow scarf to an existing handbag - I've seen that done before to good effect but haven't tried it myself. For me, I don't mind the subtraction of the yellow though, I think you look great in neutrals and whites. I wonder if I could copy this with my softer more casual gray knit jacket...I think I'm going to try soon!

I really enjoyed reading how you broke down this outfit to find the exact right combination of items. I adore the last look - simple, streamlined, modern and beautiful. I like the other versions as well for a more casual look.

And yes...you need a yellow bag.

That was a fun progression, and I love it most without the scarf. It's just refined down to its bones, if you know what I'm trying to say. Maybe replacing one of the grey items or white items with a yellow one will keep the decluttered look.

I love white and gray together and the yellow scarf adds a nice fresh pop, too! Actually, I could "copy" you, Ingunn. I have the elements to put this same outfit together, although I would have to substitute grey for the cute white cons.

I think your instincts are right to remove the scarf. I totally agree you should look for a yellow bag!

You look great and hit all of your marks. I think the Cons definitely read as 'playful'. Astrid just got a cute yellow cross-body, and I know Suz loved hers last summer. Yes, you absolutely need one!

Thanks, everyone! I think this will become a FFBO this spring. The white jeans have already been worn many times, and the blazer, which I bought last year, is a favorite. The tee is a basic, and I actually have it in light yellow, too, when I think about it! I will be on the lookout for a yellow bag, probably a small cross-body type. I also love your suggestions for adding a yellow accessory like a belt or necklace instead.

Shannon, I find them to be true to size, but since my denim collection is very small, I really don't have much to compare with. What I do realize, though, is that the Classic rise is an " smaller on me than the Modern rise. I have one of each. Maybe someone else have an opinion?

I like all the versions. But I beg to differ: how can you wear Converse tennies and say the outfit is "not really" playful? All of the versions look like to me like they represent your style beautifully.
I do like the scarf a lot, but I can see how it might be just one item too many for you, with the blazer.

Interesting, Firecracker. I might have to reconsider that. Some of the other fabbers argued the same.

I'm with Rachy! I like the yellow scarf! I like #3 just a smidge more than #4, which surprises me - the minimalist that I am.

I agree with everyone... I love getting to see your thought process, and admire that you'll stop to take pictures of an outfit that you don't care for as much.

You've wanted a yellow bag for a while--I know this because I've been off the forum for a month and you wanted one before that! So I declare a yellow bag to be a carefully planned item (as opposed to a wild indulgence of the moment). Can't wait to see it!
