WIW x4: more summer outfits - YouLookFab Forum

Another crop of mostly work outfits. I can't think of a clever title today! The jacket version of most of these outfits is mostly for indoors, as it's usually frigid in my lab and on the bus, but it's definitely hot and humid and summery outdoors now.

1-2: I wore this one to work and then out to the South End to see Mochi's photography show (which was fantastic!). It was a 12+ hour day so I tried to find a balance between comfortable and arty/edgy. I like the juxtaposition here between what is essentially pajama pants and the blazer from my (conservative, black) suit.
(BR blazer, AT tee and necklace, Gibson pants, Seychelles booties, Via Spiga bag).

3-4: A new summer dress I bought at the Nordstrom sale (find below). The dress is rather boho so I paired it with my cognac Dankso platform sandals. It has a self tie belt but I might swap it for a leather one next time.
(Caslon dress, Dansko sandals, AE jacket)

5-6: Asymmetrical handknit linen top with my favorite cropped breeches. Last year I meant to add some ruching to the long side of this top to shorten it just a little bit (but it would still be asymmetrical, never fear) but I never got around to it. I did feel like the top was a little too long (both here and in general - it works better with long pants but for summer I rarely wear those) so I think I should hurry up and do the alteration. Also, I don't love the grinning here but I don't know of another solution - the top is somewhat sheer so it needs a cami underneath but a black one to match the pants would show too much.

7-8: a tunic and cropped leggings. Comfy but I find this tunic slightly annoying. It's like just a little too drapey which doesn't always play nicely with the bold stripes. Also, I did not actually wear the jacket version as I accidentally left it at home when I went to work this morning. As a result I'm currently wearing the slightly-too-small emergency cardigan I have at work, which does not look as nice as the jacket. Oh well.

Wow, the dress really, really suits you. I'm not seeing a problem with wearing a black cami under the assymetrical sweater, to prevent grinning. But if you had a cami in nearly the same shade it might make the piece more versatile, able to be worn with other bottoms. A white cami and white trousers would look good but I can't recall you wearing light bottoms much. (Forgive my bad memory).

Diana, your style is off the charts. My favorite is the first outfit but I like them all. I would wear a black tank under the assymetrical piece in 5/6 to make a column of color the basis of the outfit. I copied something like this from a manaquin in the Karen Kane department with a sheer white top over black pants and tank.

I agree that a black cami would absolutely work here. In fact, it adds a little edge to it. I remember liking that acid green tunic when you first posted it - I love it - man I envy your knitting skills. That must have been a big/long project with such a fine gauge yarn. The dress is so nice on you - really a good look. In fact, I like all of these outfits - and don't find the striped tunic looks weird in this picture at all. Or off, or uncomfortable or whatever you want to call it

I especially like your first outfit. Have you tried a nude on you cami/tank under the asymmetrical sweater?

I am wearing a nude cami here (ETA: well, "nude". It's more like beige but it's the closest I've got). The problem (with a same color cami too) is that there's no such thing as a cami that matches the hemline of the top, so there will always be a line with dark bottoms. I'll try the black - although that is a different look with the visibly layered cami underneath.

These all look great! I'm impressed by how well you managed to make a lot of black pieces look light and springy. The idea of the black cami with the asymmetric tunic sounds like a good option to me too.

These are all terrific, Diana. I really love #1 but I'm also in awe of the tunic. I hear you on the annoyances of the last one. It looks really great on you but once you have a feeling like that about a top, it's hard to enjoy wearing it. You almost feel like it might turn on you or something.

Gorgeous outfits, girlfriend! The handknit sweater outfit is my favorite, and I would try it with a black cami. A cami in the same shade as the sweater might look nice too. That sweater would also look fantastic with white pants.

I think these are all great! I especially like #1 with the blazer. The asymmetric sweater in #3 is arty and fun. I have problems with grinning with longer tunics as well if they are sheer and need camis. Lately, my problem is tunics with hi-low hems. The front looks okay but the back grins.

Love all of these Diana! It's great to see those patterned pants again and that handknit sweater is TDF.
