WIW x3: dark forest, cozy FFBO, and a meh bootcut outfit

I'm getting behind on posting my WIWs, so here are three all together from this week, in reverse chronological weather.

1-3: Wearing this as I speak today. I love the dark foresty blacks, blues, greens, and yes even the browns of this outfit (somehow this jacket makes wearing the brown shoes a lot easier for me, maybe because it incorporates both black and brown.) Last year, I wore this plaid riding jacket exclusively all buttoned up but this year I'm liking the cropped, boxy shape of the double breasted jacket left undone. What do you think? The little lace scarf is handknit by me. I really like how it looks under the jacket lapels!

4: This is definitely a winter FFBO for me. Handknit sweater, interesting skinnies, and boots with some detail. Only three pieces (and unseen layering cami underneath), but none of them boring. Perfect.

5-6: A bootcut outfit that I was not totally pleased with. I think the hi-low top is just a little too long for bootcuts (although it works fine with skinnies). I would have tried to semi-tuck but I wasn't wearing a belt. This outfit is possibly too light on top and too dark on the bottom too; it would probably have worked better with my other, lighter bootcuts.

Outfit details:
1-3: Max&Mia jacket, F21 tee, handknit lace scarf, Kut jeans, Matiss boots.
4: handknit sweater, LibertyxPaige jeans, Remonte Dorndorf boots.
5-6: Gap academy blazer, Anthro top, Joe's bootcuts, Born oxfords, Etsy pendant.

Wow Look #1 looks like you just stepped out of one of those aristocratic country houses, I love it! For look #3, I feel the outfit isn't wrong, it's just missing a completing piece where the eye looks down. For example, like the top and jacket are picking up the yellow. What about yellow shoes or a yellow handheld bag? If you don't have those, maybe light gray?

i'm loving the bootcut outfit. that blazer looks fab on you and i like how you picked up the yellow piping in the yellow in the blouse.

The only yellow shoes I have are sandals, but I do have lighter gold oxfords. Can't wear them with these bootcuts though as they are flat and these pants are too long, but I could wear them with my medium blue bootcuts (which might be better with the colors anyway).

#1 is just stunning! Love the hand knit with the jacket. And #2 is equally brilliant.

I don't think 3 is bad, just not your usual fantabulous, maybe. You have set your standards high. I do like the jacket on you a lot. Fun with the citron piping.

I actually love the *meh* look! LOL! I might just change the jacket to some similar color from the blouse. The proportions work IMO.

Oh I love what you're wearing today! I love all the colours and textures and I think the boxy jacket shape works really well. And now I want to knit a lace cowl/scarf too, it looks so wonderful with that jacket.

4 is really nice too and I look forward to seeing more variations on it! That sweater is stunning: what a perfect neckline on you.

With the last outfit, I actually like the blouse & jeans together, I think the jeans are fitted enough at the tops to balance out the blouse's hemline. I think you're right about the lightness/darkness aspect though, because in the full outfit the jacket looks a tiny bit off but in the close up I love how the yellow piping on the jacket picks up the yellow in the floral print. You still look really good though. Beautiful necklace!

So I tried Rae's game of putting one of my outfit images into google image search to see what it thought was similar. I used one with no face to avoid confusing it.

1: my original image
2: I think this is a cathedral ceiling or similar. Very steampunky! I got several that looked like this.
3: I filtered out most of the clothing hits (got a lot of plaid jackets, sweaters, and jeans) but this one amused me because it's a popular handknit.
4: don't know what this is (website is chinese) but it looks cool.
5: forest
6: galaxy
7: I got several of black dogs; also one of a dead elephant?
8: Also got several with motor vehicle themes. Car seats,motorcycle helmets, piles of tires.
9: And some old-timey photos.
10: Street art? (In any case it comes from a street art blog).

LOOOOOVE #1! So, so much. And you have discovered how to wear brown boots - better than I have done.

I really like the bootcut outfit, too, but I hear you on the lightness up top. A shell/top with less white in it would also balance it out more. I have not been 100% thrilled with my bootcut outfits lately, either. Thinking back to prime bootcut wearing eras, I am thinking I liked them best with baby tees... you know those short, shrunken, tight ones from the 90s? which my gut doesn't want me to wear anymore? o_0

Rae, I think you're right. My bootcut brain is I think probably still a little bit stuck in the late 90s. The problem with the short, fitted tees is that they look great when standing still, but then I move or sit down and they ride up and expose muffin top/plumbers butt/midriff. I think back then I just tugged the tops down a lot to be honest.

Ack, I had missed the Google game posts! Huge fun! Very much seeing the Victorian Naturalista vibe coming off the first pic's results. The second one is harder to see but... tropical abstract artistic? Kind of like a weird word-association thing but with pictures.

By the way, the full body shots don't work nearly as well in google. Tried the white sweater outfit and all I got was a bunch of pictures of people wearing white. Lots of wedding dresses, chefs, and lab coats. =P

Actually my dear Diana, the bootcut outfit is my fave and I vote killer. The hi-lo top is a great length with your very long leg line.

But I'm loving #1 too. Another k-word worthy look and extra texturally rich. I like how it was matched with a black lab on google images. Your outfit is privileged to be compared to such canine beauty. (Spoken like a true member of Team Doggie).

I don't see any meh at all. I LOVE the bootcut outfit. I've never been able to pull off a long top like that with them--you mastered it beautifully. These are all fab fall/winter outfits, if you ask me.

I love all of these! What is the issue with light on top and dark on the bottom? I think #3 looks dressier than it would with lighter bootcuts, but still fab.

Thanks, ladies. I think I probably do have "meh goggles" on with respect to the bootcuts outfit (thanks Thistle for the term!). It's just that I know how long my legs can look in these particular jeans, and maybe in this outfit they are just a little short of that.

Shannon, I love this plaid jacket! But every time I wear it I am reminded of how much I want a Smythe. I think I need to go to Canada and go Smythe shopping. (And Danier shopping!)

These are my favorites from you, ever. #1-3, is so perfectly tweedy british professor. Having immediate happy thoughts about tea, and fog. #4 reminds me of snow and ice, and that part in Fantasia where the little frost fairies skate on the lake. And #5-6 is more proof of your awesomeness, in that you have managed to combine a blazer, floral print, and matchiness all into one outfit which looks not the slightest bit dowdy. In fact, it's super duper cute. Well done all around!
