WIW x 4: Trying out new purchases

Hi Ladies!

My trying to be weekly outfit post...

#1 Today! Yippee for Friday! This is the most pleased I have been with a strap for the thrifted bag challenges (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ap-dilemma) it doesnt look at all like the bamboo handles on Transcona Shannon's bag from today but hers is what inspired the choice by a sort of round about thinking. Also featuring my new LOLE UPF 50 T and recently thrifted Lucky jeans. Jcrew belt, gentle souls sandals.

#2 WIW flash flood edition... Pink pants out to play again because I needed skinny's to tuck in the wellies. Serious rain kayaking jacket and water friendly bag. LOLE knit blazer (which I am perhaps regretting not sizing up in? it is very comfortable but the arms look a little tight in the photos...oh well tags are off will have to work for awhile at least) American apparel turquiose tank, jcrew leopard belt

#3 More MOTG (ok all my looks are MOTG) park play date with some women i hadnt met before so wanted to "fit in". Orange T with red jacket I really loved, but when it got too hot I felt like the outfit with just the t got too boring. I consider this my bargain of the week outfit though since all said it was under $50 (including shoes and bag (well... ok the bag was a gift). Thrifted Lucky jeans, thrifted kohls jr trench, thrifted (then painted DIY) belt, steve madden shoes via sams club, timbuk2 bag

#4 This dress has an open halter back that i find challenging to style when I need to be a bit covered but I have been trying to take on challenges lately! Topped with my new gingham UPF 30 shirt (North face) and belted to finish since the shirt was kind of long not to do anything. Sporting my "really swanky gear" new ellington purse and pistil hat.

The last few weeks of more shopping have been fun to get some new things but I am really ready to take on the next step of putting together outfits from what I have now. Several times in the last week I have felt like my wardrobe is really working and easy to manage/choose things from which is thrilling. As always your suggestions are most welcome and appreciated!

Great looks love the cheeky amimal print belt with the pink skinnies and the sexy toes in the aqua sandles. Lots of fun happy looks.

I love how you add a some color throughout your outfits to make them fun and turn up the style quotient. You may have thought the t alone was boring but the blue sandals are so cute!
The new gingham shirt works very well over the dress - good idea!

And the slim scarf/tie handle on bag works well - I am impressed!

You know I am ALL OVER that delicious handbag in #1 Sarah! Absolutely gorgeous. I love the very colourful combo in outfit #2 with the touch of animal print in the belt.

All of the outfits look great! I especially like the first one. If you are concerned that the orange t looks unfinished without the jacket then maybe a necklace? It is a beautiful color on you!

Yay Sarah! I'm so happy to hear that your new items are causing you great wardrobe happiness. It's so great to look in your closet and realize that you can put more than one option together with the items that aren't in the wash! I love your scarf-as-bag-handle solution in the first outfit. And yay for the pink skinnies in outfit number 2! I love the way you wore color with color. The third outfit was *not*boring without your jacket, because of the surprise aqua belt and sandals, which takes it up a notch. I'm sure you made a great impression on your new friends. I love your gingham shirt over the dress (you could also knot it, in lieu of a belt) and that yellow cross body is fab-tastic! Great week!

Sarah: Love the bag! The pink skinnies are a great fit, and the mid-tone brights in the outfit are playing together very nicely. I also like your thrifted jeans in #3 -- the color and fit have that "easy summer" look -- perfect for a play date.

It is work to build a wardrobe, but you're really on a roll now with the remixing!

Great week! I really like the bag handle with the bag in #1, built in pattern mixing! Great mix of color and dash of leopard in #2. For #3, how about adding a long pendant or some layered necklaces so that the tee has a bit of extra sparkle when the jacket is off? #4 is super fun, though I'd like to see those pretty turquoise sandals from #3 with it. Fab little hat!

LOVE the Lole knit blazer - it is adorable. Don't know about sizing but if it's knit it probably has some give. You look like a super-stylish Alaskan-type MOTG to me - come visit!

Aida, great ideas (as always_) the hat in #4 has a touch of blue accent stitching even how could i have not thought of the turquiose sandals?

As Meredith mentioned too, i think a necklace would have been great I tried 4 before i ditched the idea and had to leave before being late... perhaps more time to play around with some layered pieces or i think i long chain might be on my shopping list that i can use with some of the pendants i already own.

Claire, i like the idea of tying the gingham top when it gets too hot to wear a belt. we have actually had a pretty cool week temperaturewise. You hit the nail on the head about how nice it is to feel like you have options even if laundry is behind schedule!

Una, DH and I have a major Alaska obsession! I have wanted to visit (live?!) there since about 8th grade... we might be on your doorstep before you know it asking where that good spring skiing was you posted last week

I have really been trying to define my 5 style descriptors (I know this Angie assignment was months ago!) and I am loving that bright, colorful, and fun are coming through (thanks Kiwichik, Christieanne, Shannon, and Beth Ann for noticing)!

1) That is a fun strap for your bag! I like how the pattern on the strap plays nicely with the stripes in your shirt. The yellow and red combination is fun too!

2) The color blocking in the first photo is FAB and the peek of the animal print belt is fun and unexpected.

3) I got those same SM sandals from Sam's Club but choose the blush color instead. I see that your belt echoes the color of the sandals...nice! I agree with Aida that a necklace might help you feel a bit snazzy when you have to take the jacket off...some bracelets too. The red jacket is fun with the big white buttons. It has a nautical vibe to it. Fun to wear with the striped shirt in #1. I like the colorblocked bag as well.

4) Have you tried halter style tanks to wear under your halter dress? Here are a couple of examples from academichic:

thanks AJ! I had not seen the halter tanks before, will have to check those out. I am really liking the sandals, I find them super comfortable. Unfortunately the blush was awkward looking with my skin tone, I wanted some low contrast sandals and the blush was what I was originally drawn to. I think the red jacket is definitely going to play with the striped shirt in the future...
