WIW: Wintry Greys - YouLookFab Forum

It's been ages! I took a nice long trip to see my family over Christmas & New Year's & didn't bring my computer, so I was offline most of the time. And then I've been trying to settle back in/sort out some errands/take advantage of the inspiration a new year brings with it, so I just haven't gotten back into the routine of the forum & outfit photos. But this afternoon I remembered while the sun was still up. Woohoo!

It was pretty cold today (16F/-3C when I checked the weather to get dressed, not including the wind chill factor), so I opted for lots of woolens. I began with this vintage wool skirt, because it fits my natural waist & didn't feel like fussing with a belt. It's got quite a bit of interest with the plaid & different colours, so I paired it with a simple grey sweater & my new grey wool tights (a Christmas present that I love). Plus a pair of charcoal grey socks for extra foot insulation (my feet get cold first). I was enjoying the mix of the greys, and the outfit seemed fairly serious, so I thought it could handle the addition of a grey sash. Finally, I decided to wear another Christmas gift: this full moon necklace. I've been wanting a silver 'statement' necklace like my gold secret pocket watch one. I'm also learning more about astronomy (mainly a theoretical knowledge, as I live in a place with a lot of overcast nights, lol), so I thought it'd be nice to expand my nature-themed accessories to include the sky, so I added this to my wish list & was very pleased to have received it. Now I can admire a full moon even when the actual moon is in hiding, like now.

I forgot to photograph my outerwear, but I wore my long vintage blue wool coat, plus its hood, a grey wool pashmina-type scarf, and my snowflake mittens in two tones of grey. Hence today's post title. Plus my knee high wool-lined boots. was perfectly toasty even during my hour long woodsy ramble, but am just as comfortable inside without the coat. Wool is so adept at body temperature regulation!

Comments, criticism & feedback welcome as always. I apologise that I'm not quite in focus in the pics; clearly my camera is out of practice too & decided that the couch arm was much more interesting. lol

You look lovely in this simple, elegant, slightly retro outfit. The colors are gorgeous, the sash adds just the right amount of polish, and the necklace has a subtle glow against the charcoal sweater. Nicely done! I miss little Thistle gazing admiringly at you, though.

Eeek! I just love that necklace....I watch the moon almost every night and feel a great connection to it. I love the pop of color in the skirt against all the grays. I was thinking of you after I read a Spring 2015 preview that mentioned that sashes and ballet-esque inspired clothes will be in fashion.

Love the greys/blues here -- the skirt is terrific, and the pedant a great addition. I like its "scale" -- not too big or small.

Have you every tried winding the sash from front to back and back to front -- tying it front with a smaller bow or knot? Just another option.

in case you want one. The chain isn’t the nicest (links are a bit big for my taste), but the pendant is gorgeous. I look for the moon every night, but sometimes the clouds thwart me! We had a streak of clear nights last week; there was barely any moon but Orion was front and center, which was fun. What is this spring preview you read? It sounds very inspirational!

Suz, I do love plaid flannel too, but traditional collared button downs are so trick for me to style. Whereas full skirts are no problem, so you’re definitely right. Makes me giggle to think of plaid as a trend; reminds me of that scene in Devil Wears Prada where Meryl Streep mocks someone for suggesting florals in spring as a novelty.

Diane, sorry to have disappeared without warning! The tights are excellent: they have a real foot (aka heel like a sock) & fit just right: no sagging or bagging. I was going to splurge on another colour, but they’re sadly no longer available. Hmph.

Beth Ann, I still love my new climate (except for the dearth of stargazing). It’s actually not as cold as I expected, but I suppose February is usually the deepest part of winter. I haven’t tried tying the sash in the front; I have wrapped it twice so it ends in a smaller square knot instead of a floppy bow. I’ll try the way you suggested next time: thank you!

The cable pattern is lovely on them and they have shaped feet and heels. I think they are only available from overseas for you though.They are pricey as well. Not sure if they are available to US from the Falke website. Maybe you could pop them on your Christmas wishlist for next Christmas
