WIW Wide Leg Pants

I wanted to try wide leg pants. Not sosure how flattering they are (but they are comfy!)
Pants and top are from Old Navy (in Finds). I added a belt. I'm not too fond of the tie waist.
I like it better with the sweater over it.
Styling suggestions to minimize the maximising?

Ooh, I love them both ways. Maybe a low contrast top will lengthen the overall look? The tie waist would be low contrast too. What didnt you like about it? Seriously though, they look fab!

I like them both, but actually have slight preference for the 2nd one. Have you tried a tee in the color of the Cardigan from 1? Wondering If you’d like less contrast

I think I'm just not used to the look.
kkards- I don't own one, but I do have acream top in my ON shopping cart. Oh wait- I do have acream lace top.
I'm sure that nobelt and a lower contrast top will look better to my eye. I am wearing the pants to work, and the belt made it feel more "professional".

You can play with some jewelry options- statement earrings, necklace or stronger shoes with platform.
Would vest work with top and wide legged pants?
I like both looks - fun new addition!
Recently I’ve got a jacket - done like denim but in light rayon fabric and size too big - very comfy ( don’t care how unflattering/ flattering it looks on me ). Denim jackets are not allowed at my work but that one goes for now.

I agree with comments above about trying with a lower-contrast top.
And maybe try with a structured jacket (like a denim jacket or a blazer) to offset the flow of the pants.

Your eyes will adjust to seeing the width. I suggest one of the shell with small shoulder pads. They may help create balance.

I like those striped wide leg pants. I sort of want to see a lighter weight belt to go with the breezy look of the outfit. Maybe rope or a rolled up scarf?

Awesome pants. You look great! I like the outfit better without the cardigan. I like the belt but agree a lighter belt could work too. Do you have any wrap tops? That could look good too.

I agree with Kkards on wearing a top that matches the blue stripe instead of the light background, if "minimizing" is your goal. A fabric/webbed belt in the pants' background color could fulfill the "professional-looking" requirement without showing up so starkly. A cream-colored doodad on top, maybe a necklace, could tie into the background color and further emphasize the vertical dimension. I like #1 here best, but obviously you might need to take the cardi off, depending on the weather.

To"minimize the maximising" you could sew down the pleats from the waist down for a more tailored fit on the hips and use a lower contrast belt and shoes.
Then, here I just feel like you have styled them a bit too heavy (do you have cold summers?)-to me, the tee, the cardi, the chunky leather belt, and loafers look too much for the linen pant's more summery vibe (a pinstripe on white)-
If you want to keep the cardi on, I say a strechy but heavier cotton camisole with a deeper neckline instead of a short sleeve tee, and some slides or mules instead of the loafers would be a great option.
And can I ask why aren't you fond of the tie waist? These pants are supposed to be worn exactly like that:- Just faux tuck and leave the ties hanging on front. If you still want a proper belt you can pleat or even knit/crochette yourself one more lower contrast for the pants, and more flexible say from "chewyspaghetti"-s:-)) leather cords or even ropes with longer fringed ends & leave them hanging out on front.

I like the sweater with them too… enhances the long and loose theme. The belt and tucked top feel too constricted for such easygoing pants to me…

I like both looks a lot! You look terrific in this outfit. I like the airiness of the cardi you chose.

As to minimizing the maximizing (great phrase--haha!), how about (on a cooler day) wearing an off-white/cream tank and your olive jacket? or denim jacket? I realize this kind of defeats the purpose of breezy pants, but in the Pacific Northwest, it's not totally impractical.

I like kkards' knotted blouse idea, too.

I like that photo from kkards a lot. I always like the idea of breezy, wideleg pants like this, but struggle a bit with them on my body. That thin fabric that seems great for summer doesn't have enough structure to fall without clinging.

Do you maybe have a shorter, boxy top you could wear untucked? Seems counterintuitive, but I think sometimes increasing the volume up top can de-maximize by shifting the proportions.

I'm with Kellygirl and Angie in liking the idea of a low-contrast top (though I think both of these look fab!). For some reason, this summer I am really digging low contrast tops paired with lighter bottoms. There is something so summery about it, IYKWIM. I would probably pair these with a light-colored top that came to my hips, so shorter but not full-on cropped.
