All good things are three, right?
Today I took the day off after working long hours Monday-Thursday, including a sleep over-seminar with my new colleagues. Fun!
What I Did Today:
1. I hemmed the purple full skirt I thrifted last month.
2. I played in my closet and with the Redbook Fall Outfit Ideas. More later.
3. Later tonight I'm going to a friends place for Stitch N'Bitch and knit n a purple sweater.
What I'm Wearing:
A navy top, purple skirt and scarf. Blue wedges, but will be switching to black heeled boots later, and hose. Denim jacket as topper. It is fall, undoubtedly.
What I Bought:
1. Do you remember how much I loved the red pencil skirt from J Crew? I found it in black, too, at a much better price than I gave for the red one. Yay! I love this one, too.
2. I also love my leopard shirt so much that when I found another Perfect Shirt (J Crew) for coins and pennies on eBay, I had to snap it up. This one has a tiny floral pattern in white and grey on yellow background.
3. The navy sleeveless top in the photos is thrifted this week. It was new with tags, and is the perfect value of navy to pair with black. I broke my rule of never to thrift anything from a fast fashion chain, or in polyester, because it is new and has a gorgeous shade of navy. Unfortunately it doesn't photograph well. I also found a Boss straight legged pair of trousers that are a perfect fit, but must be hemmed (not in the photos).
I seem to be thrifting more and more. Is this good or bad for my style, wardrobe and wallet? I don't know, but it's fun. My strategy is to refrain from buying anything cheaply made, in polyester or acrylic, and to look for pieces with longevity. I don't normally thrift shoes, jeans and bags because the selection is dated, worn out or otherwise not current. I try to mix my new, better pieces with the thrifted ones in an attempt to keep up a modern vibe.
#1 The Redbook capsule and mine. The larger photo: Black pencil skirt, cropped black pants, black cardigan, jeans, red dress, striped tee, white tee, denim shirt, black belt, heeled boots, Chelsea boots, purple scarf. The smaller photo includes the add-ons from my closet: Navy top (new), floral blouse (new), purple full skirt (new), burgundy turtleneck, taupe leather moto, stone booties, blue wedges, snakeskin belt, striped elastic belt.
The Redbook Fall Outfit suggestions provide a fun starting point, but I wasn't too excited about it. The real fun is to use the suggestions as a springboard for my own ideas.
#2: WIW Today
#3-9 Various outfits inspired by the Redbook capsule. There were some nice ones among the suggestions, but I didn't care for all of the original ones.
#10-11 My interpretations. A few more I liked based on the same selection of clothes. There could be several others, too!
Thanks for looking, everyone, and enjoy your weekend! Any thoughts, suggestions or comments are welcome as always.
