WIW: White & cobalt confession

I confess when cobalt started turning up everywhere I resolved to turn away.

I *adore* the colour and it is a great temptation.

But knowing how much my body had to and has to morph and a tight budget had me resolved to keep out of shops.

The body changed more yet slower than I expected, though. So the maternity wardrobe from early months isn't cutting it like I hoped. Had to shop to bypass the dreaded laundry bottleneck (cloth diapers are the bulk of it now).

Honestly, though, this skirt is an indulgence. Especially as I already have one ordered earlier as emergency supply! But I liked it...and gave in to temptation on seeing Angie's birthday goodies and Suz's travel capsule. Bonus that the skirt is an easy-care knit! Came along with lace-trimmed top yesterday.

Excuse candid shot and feel free to inform me what goes with cobalt besides white and grey. I don't wear yellow and orange much....

ETA: Does the top grin too much, do you think? I've not worn much white plus bright before, so not sure whether it is a trick of the camera... What do you experienced Fabbers say?

Glad I'm up late and got to see this, Mandipa! The color is stunning on you, and the length and shape are oh, so flattering!

In those early months of parenting, the soft swish of a cool, easy care skirt and flash of a beautiful color can be such a pleasure!

White and grey would look fab here, of course, as would black. I think this color often works with blue/green, although it's a pretty vibrant combo. I work cobalt with burgundy in the fall/winter and loved it.

Beth Ann---Thanks for staying up to help! And ooh, burgundy! I had not thought that would work and must have missed that WIW! Very snazzy. I have a burgundy corduroy jacket that will have to come back into play when the temperatures ease up, I can see.

Black...I'm still harbouring a little fear of black+brights. Must try and push past it. I do actually have several black tops in current rotation, so makes best sense. Thanks again for the late-night consult!

The skirt looks really nice on you! I don't think the white grins enough to worry about. I wear cobalt with white, black, and gray. I also wear a cobalt skirt with a top that's a print in navy, gray, and pink. I'm going to try Beth Ann's pairing with my oxblood skinnies, too!

Beautiful skirt and I love cobalt. He he, I am wearing my cobalt pencil skirt today I love cobalt with black, white and grey. Beth Ann's suggestion and example of burgandy is lovely too. You could try turquoise, pink, green, denim

The outfit and the colors are so pretty on you. And your charming daughter is lovely, too. The skirt is well worth the indulgence; I'm sure you'll wear it a lot, because it looks so good on you.
I like cobalt with turquoise or aqua. I just have to hold up the items to see if they go--some do and some don't work so well, to my eye.
If I recall, I've seen Transcona Shannon pair cobalt with silver, too--gorgeous! For a dressier look, perhaps.

Oh, and I'm not bothered by the grinning--it doesn't look too obvious in the photo. I do find it hard to wear light tops over dark pants sometimes, though; I use a dark cami, maybe not as dark as the pants, but dark-ish or medium toned, to break the line.

I find that cobalt goes with lots of colours, and it looks lovely and fresh here with the white.

I also think emerald, coral, or red could look really pretty. Citron would be amazing too if it's not too yellowy for your tastes.

It also took me a long time to lose the baby weight so don't lose hope. Good luck in your journey

Adelfa, if there's one thing I like better than a cobalt knit skirt, it is a cobalt knit maxi skirt! And you remind me I have a draped top in navy, grey and pink (!)---must try it with this, though not sure if it wouldn't be too much volume all over.

High five, Deborah! What are you wearing yours with? I hadn't thought of denim, you know! Maybe I thought it would be too much blue? But I did fill my denim/chambray top/topper hole this year. So, that's another to certainly try.

Firecracker, thank you! You made me light right up at aqua---there is a mint-y aqua orphan top that I need to pull out of storage. Will have to see if I can tuck it in, as the peplum may fight the flare.

Ideas - anything patterned? It is very baby-friendly styling to wear patterned stuff, any marks show less

Coming to the outfit, the skirt looks great. You've mentioned that you don't wear a lot of orange and yellow. I suggest you try the skirt with a deep mustard or a red top. You could also try a beige top with it.

Lovely skirt. The length is perfect, and it is swishy, fun and flattering. I like it with the white, and I don't see grinning. You can also pair it with burgundy or black to take you into fall. Also, citron would go well if you have some in your closet already.

And honestly, when you have such a super cute accessory, it is hard to see anything but awesomeness in your outfit

I don't think the grin is a worry. My white top does the same with my cobalt skirt and I have decided to ignore it. I think it is far more obvious in the camera's flash and eye than in real life.

I love my cobalt with white, with black, with grey, with fuchsia, and with patterns that include those. A patterned top would be genius for hiding spills!

Oh, Mandipa, I know what you mean about fear of black/brights. It can be dated in a hurry -- but most of that dated look came in the form of black trousers with bright tops. Blue on the bottom is already a change from the old formula. Suz's suggestion for pattern is excellent, particularly for a young mom!

Beth Ann's right, I think. Somehow the bright bottom, black top is a totally different look and feel (to me, anyway). And cobalt also feels fresher with black than some other brights do (for now, I suppose, until we all tired of that...but by then your skirt will be worn out!) I really like this on you and think you can wear it so many ways.

I solemnly declare that cobalt blue is a neutral - together with red and animal print.

Cobalt blue is my favorite color is I'm all in favor of you getting this skirt. It looks so fresh and pretty with your white top. I find cobalt to be as versatile as black or navy when it comes to pairing tops, and it just looks fresher and more interesting.

And your little one is utterly adorable--especially with that soulful expression!
