WIW: white after labor day

Dreadfully hot and humid today, so I'm going for light, natural fabrics in loose, flowy shapes. And white for the day after labor day!

handknit top, ??? white cami, Benetton skirt, Naot sandals, Sydney Love subway bag.

Beautiful, Diana! I love this sweater on you. It's great you are continuing to get use from the subway bag again.

Suz, my bag style is pick a bag and use it for 2+ weeks until I get bored or it really clashes with my outfit. Then I switch and repeat. So, yeah, it's been all subway bag all the time for the past 2 weeks. But probably time to switch soon.

You look great! The sweater is perfect with the skirt. I generally ignore the white after Labor Day thing. Summer lasts well after Labor Day in these parts and I'm not going to stop wearing such an important part of my wardrobe due to an arbitrary date.

I never understood the 'no white after Labor Day' rule either. No white jeans in mucky weather, but with a navy cashmere on a gorgeous fall day, why not?

So pretty and Summer-y. I just love you in these soft drapey shapes, Diana. Just enough structure in all the right places to look fabulous. And that will keep you cool in the heat.

Thanks for answering my suit question, Angie. What you said makes perfect sense. I think I'll look for the perfect pants suit (probably with bootcut trousers like yours or maybe a not-too-skinny straight leg; I feel like my wide leg trousers are comfy and fun but a little too slouchy to be interview appropriate). Then I might add a pencil skirt for variety with the knowledge that it may not be the perfect pairing (but still acceptable).

My jaw literally opened in amazement (not kidding). You look beautiful, and that blue is so fresh and cool. I'm wearing white today too, didn't even realize how much of a rebel I have become.

Well, you got that right about the weather, Diana. It's been blech. (And of course in January we'll be wishing it was like this.) I admire your ability to wear wool, even in an airy knitted top like this--which is gorgeous, by the way. Even amongst all the beautiful things you make. That slate color patterned with the crisp yet loose, free skirt makes for a stunning combination. I wish everyone in our town had your fashion sense.

Nancy, it's not wool, it's cotton! In fact it's not a traditional spun yarn at all, it's actually a flat, tape-style yarn. It's from Japan and is called "cotton gima" which according to the store's website means "fake linen," which is a pretty good description of how it feels. This shop sells a lot of non-traditional yarns that are really interesting to work with (including the stainless steel one I might have mentioned in the past). I would die in wool right now.
