WIW: Which topper? Help please

It's definitely fall weather today. HIgh temp of 61 degrees F. Misty and light rain. I dug out a sweater and booties plus a scarf. My usual "uniform". It feels comfortable and good to be wearing this again. It works well in my work place. Today I am going to work with K-8 students. I wasn't sure what topper to put with it? Maybe they are all o.k.? I am doubtful. I think I will walk out of the house in the waxed canvas topper today but it feels so stiff. It's one of those items that seems better in theory than reality. I like the length, but not the color. It's too dark. I also don't like the color of the leather jacket with my boots. I don't like the style of the jean jacket with what I am wearing, I think it's too short, but the color may be alright. What do you think? What would work? Maybe I have a gap here?

None are bad, but I prefer the anorak. You're right, the length is better and I don't mind the dark color. The white jean jacket looks nice colorwise but doesn't seem right proportionally. The leather jacket is also ok.

I love the waxed jacket. It is such a nice companion to both the color and the softness of the sweater and jeans. And the shoes are great too.

I really like the J Crew field jacket. It looks great on you! My 2nd favorite is the Cole Haan leather jacket.

Also a vote for the waxed jacket because of the bookending with the boots. I don't think it looks too dark, but if it bothered you, a scarf with more prominent darker colors might help the transition (I think the scarf you are wearing looks great though) or a dark brown belt that just shows a tiny bit under the sweater hem. I think the leather jacket might work with different shoes.

Number 4 is my favorite for fit, length, and color, but is it possible to wear brown/cognac flats/loafers/booties instead of the black? The black booties kept distracting me in all of the photos. Love the colors in the outfit, though.

Ladylilac, the booties are teal green, just a little bit darker than the green in my scarf. I think the poor lighting for the photo is throwing things off? I can definitely try some cognac booties once I find some. They are on my buy list. I had a pair from Munro, but they wore out and have been purged. I have some laceless pointy toe flats that might work.

Unfrumped, would you wear a different color pants, or did you think the skinny jeans were the problem?

Having gone through the day in the outfit, I have to say that it was super comfortable. I would repeat it, maybe without changes. I was happy with it and I picked the waxed field jacket as a topper.

Another fan of #4. I like the color and length of this one. It is lower contrast than the other two and that appeals to me. I also like that it is quite sleek and gives a nice silhouette.

They are all nice but this is my favorite.

I like the colors themselves together, the pinks and browns/ greens. But, I guess to me, in the photos the jeans give an appearance somewhat like nude leggings and don't ground the outfit enough. As though either the pants need to be more substantial, or the color intensity, or both.

I like the last look the best. It looks so polished! I like the way the brown jacket complements the green boots as well as the pink tones. I like the white jacket color-wise, but the length is kind of in-between--I think a shorter one would look better, and a shorter jean jacket might be a more current silhouette (although I don't really know). The first jacket is terrific, if you are wearing it as outerwear. (It doesn't look like an indoor jacket to me.) So any of these could have worked! The warm pinks are lovely on you.

When I looked at the pictures again to assess what Unfrumped and Ladylilac were saying, I recalled that I have a pair of tan Anyi Lu booties that might work nicely with this sweater and pair of pants. It would create a much lower contrast. I read somewhere that the contrast level of what you wear should match your personal contrast level. I believe I am a low contrast because there is not much contrast between my skin, hair and eye color.

I like #4 best, followed by #2. With the lighter toppers, it's all a bit too monotone for me.

N-Marie, you like the contrast? I think it's hard to figure out whether low or medium contrast works best for me. I need to play around with it some more.

Staysfit, I think you are right--in general, low contrast combinations are going to be more harmonious with your coloring overall. In comparison, I think of myself as medium contrast.

Staysfit--my favourite combination was the cognac jacket with the pink, though the anorak was OK.
I think the contrast "rule" works generally-but, for example I am low contrast in my colouring--but I love to wear high contrast clothing--but I think my personality carries it.

I like the brown leather jacket the best with this outfit - and I agree with those who have suggested trying a lighter colored boot. The darker boot in the pics seems to distract from the softness of the rest of the outfit.

I have heard the "rule" about contrast level of clothing matching your personal contrast level but I don't necessarily agree with it. Take for example Suz - she has said that her personal contrast level is low, but she absolutely shines in the richer berries and blues - and actually looks washed out in some of the low contrast colors. Same with Alana!

I'd love to see you play around with medium contrast colors Staysfit! I'm not saying that I think they would look better on you (I don't really know!) but I think it would be fun to compare and contrast!

Marley, I think I will give the medium contrast look a more thorough try. I know that some of the ensembles I have posted are medium contrast. For example, blue jean skirt with an ivory top. I also wore ivory and black once. I will see if I can put some more medium contrast together and play around with it.

My local friends are fairly vocal in saying that I look my best when I wear light colors on top. I don't always follow this, because I think it is a matter of picking correctly from my color palette. For example, I have both light teal and dark teal. The dark looks much better. It somehow makes my eyes sparkle and my skin glow. The light color is ok, but may be better on my DD who has fair skin. (Mine looks fair, but when I purchase make up I end up in the medium category).

Love those booties! I like the leather jacket best -- I like the richness of the leather and think the depth makes the best "bridge" beween the elements in the outfit.

You have lovely elements and good taste. From your comments, I suspect that you have more happiness in lower contrast -- that it feels more like "you."

I think it would be interesting to see the same booties and leather jacket, mixed with a deeper colored pant and top --- not that what you're wearing isn't lovely -- just another option to experiment with!

Beth Ann, I like your idea. I definitely have some ways I can use these booties, the leather jacket and deeper colored pants and top. It would end up low contrast again, only darker, deeper toned colors.
