Hello everyone! Long time no post on my part. I've missed you all!

I'm wearing this at work today. My take on it is that it is that it is a good, solid, current outfit. So it is fun, but not as fashion as I would like. Any suggestions to bump this up a notch? (BTW, sorry for the photo quality. Nothing like a workplace bathroom to kill the photo, but unfortunately I had zero light or time at home this morning and we gotta do what we gotta do.)

Are those leather patch pockets on the top? I love it! Great current mix of ink, black and cognac! I'm partial to scarves or a statement necklace in the fall - and it would be easy to find something really cool to add to this look and pull it together - like something gold with big amber stones, or a scarf in related colours etc. Banana Republic has some nice gold link neck pieces...for example.

Thanks, lisap. They are leather patch pockets. The sweater is actually navy and the pants are cobalt, so they must be reading quite dark on the screen! Your mention of necklaces reminded me that I could wear a longer necklace that I have with a silver/gold feather. That would be a fun addition!

Looks great as is but I agree that maybe a necklace or scarf to echo the cognac tones just a bit more.

I think in general it's the "third piece" that you might be missing here, at least subconsciously. Agree a scarf would help.

Love the touches of leather and cognac. And I agree with the others, on the possibility of a necklace or scarf. Great shoes btw.

Love that top. You look great. Have you tried layering a white shirt underneath? Not 100% sure it would work, but worth a shot...

I think the crew neck is creating a lot black upper half. If it were a v-neck you would have enough skin to echo the shoes.
I really like the top, a lot. Or you could have just worn black shoes. But I'd also want a peep-toe or some openish.
The bag works here with the shoes, but it's not like you carry the bag all day at the office.

I like the minimalism of the outfit just like it is.

If you want to make it a bit more edgy or try a different take maybe experiment with bottoms that are tonally similar but have an interesting shape (drapey pants? a skirt with an asymmetric hem?), or experiment with shoes (although I really like these). The cobalt toenails continue to be great.

I was also going to suggest a necklace or scarf to break up the chestal area.

As per Angie's post, my eyes zoomed right to your shoes and bag, both of which I love (I also have cognac mules!). And I love them with the cobalt/black combination. I really don't need anything else but I see the point about the crew neck and will say that I have seen several infinity scarf outfits that I like this morning on the forum.

Well I love the minimal look of this... A lot:). I might add a silver necklace collar but that is all.

Another idea would be to make that necklace or scarf something that repeats the cobalt of your pants...maybe a cobalt statement necklace.

Personally, I like it just as it is. I think the leather pockets on the top, plus the on-trend footwear, make it really current. I feel like if you add something else, the details that I just mentioned that make it modern looking will have competition and the look won't be as sleek.

I like the outfit as is, actually I aspire to that type of dressing . Love the top and bag. It is all simple and chic and does not look overly contrived.

I love the top especially, and it's a great outfit. I think the addition of the necklace would be great, or as an alternative, black peep-toe shoes would bookend and balance the top nicely.
