WIW: week of 12/17

While not festive, I’m trying to add some extra oomph as we close out the year.
Photo 1: I was inspired by some of the tonal/textured looks I’ve seen here so wanted to try a black out look. I think it worked out okay. Maybe a shiny boot next time.
Photo 2: My uniform.
Photo 3: trying the new belt with OTK. Too much?
Photo 4: WIW (took off the belt and scarf at work)
Photo 5: I have a couple of these tunics but feel like they’re too voluminous. Thought the semi tuck reined them in a bit. Yay or nay?
Photo 6: Is there too much going on? Can I pull off the belt here?

Would appreciate any constructive criticism you may be able to offer. Thanks for looking!

You look great. I prefer the long tops untucked and unbelted. But that’s just personal preference- I don’t think it’s “too much”, especially with the current trends.

I LOVE your uniform.
I’m going to try and give that look a shot myself . It’s a bit less structured for me but I think it is still incredibly polished ! It’s really my very favorite look on you.

Is #4 a long sweater over a dress over jeans ? Is that the one that feels too volumous to you ?
I think because you are so tiny that it looks a little bit like it’s swallowing your frame up . I think a slimmer and /or shorter top underneath might work better ?

Agree with taylor - your uniform is super! I think the striped top is best in the last version.

Thanks, Fabbers. Just trying to stretch my fashion legs. The uniform is probably a uniform for a reason. I just get kind of tired of it. I've never been a belt person but I do like them and will try to figure out a better way to wear them. I love the belt that Angie recommended--just need to figure out how to make it work for me. Thanks so much for looking!

All look good to my eye. I like the striped tunic with and without the belt, and I don’t think there is too much going on at all. The green tunic is a really lovely colour on you.

I love these looks too and I like the belted tops, I think it shows off your waist.

Photo 1 - I really like this, tonal black works well on you and I agree adding some shine would be a fun way to keep tonal, but add some more interest.

Photo 2 - best uniform ever - you look gorgeous in this - I love the fit of your sweater and jeans that that is one very cool belt.

Photo 3 - I like this - it is not too much and it is a fun maximal look. I really like the belt and OTK boots.

Photo 4 - I love this cardigan and the colour of it - so this is a good work look.

Photo 5 - these look good, but I prefer the lower volume tops on you. Lovely colour though.

Photo 6 - I really like this and for me the OTK boots, stripes and belt give off a bit of an 80's new romantic / pirate vibe (which is an era I love).

It is fun to see you playing with these looks and they all work.

Great week Kelly, I like all the looks on you. I do prefer the green top untucked... I think the tucking emphasizes the volume of the top, where as untucked it looks more intentional.

I love your “uniform”, but I really love 3. It reminds me of Peter Pan, a little. You just look fabulous!

I too love your uniform and will copy this look. I also struggle with how to wear belts but I do love the way they look on others. 1 is my favorite outfit, but your clean sleek style shines in all of these.

How would the green tunic be belted with a thin belt?
I prefer the stripe dress belted or with cardigan for the added structure.
I like 3 a lot and would also like to see how it looks with tan/brown leggings to match the boots.

Your uniform is mine as as well. What can I say..I think #2 is fab and will duplicate this.
#1. That skirt length is perfect and I love it with those boots!
#3 has a little to much boho for me..but you wear it well
#5 I prefer the semi tuck, but both look good. Green is a great color on you.
#6 I normally prefer a structured outfit, but I prefer it unbelted.

@Brooklyn: Thanks. I’m almost always go unbelted unless there’s an underlying purpose such as holding up my pants. Happy to hear that it isnt’ OTT.

@Taylor: Thanks! I can’t wait to see your version of the uniform. I bet you could give me some tips! #4 is a dress over jeans but the dress seems to short to be worn as a dress anymore. I’m not sure whether it shrunk or whether I’m getting more modest. And thanks for calling me tiny. I never hear that! I’ll have to try a shorter top and see if the belt looks better. It could be that it’s cutting me right in half--a proportion issue, perhaps.

@bijou: Thank you for the detailed reply! I really appreciate the affirmation on 1,3,4 and 6. I think part of it is I’m not used to accessories but I’m glad to hear they don’t look too crazy. The belt is totally 80s and I love it!

@Elizabeth: Thank you. I guess the green top can go either way It’s just so cozy and forgiving. I don’t think I can give that up.

@JAileen: LOL! Thanks. I thought it was kind of piratey myself but I just rolled with it. having fun with fashion.

@karen: Thank you. I can totally see you in a belt. I think we have very similar styles--could be a Cali thing. (I didn’t know you were in Tahoe.) We’re practically neighbors! I’ll try the tunic with a thin belt. I had thought maybe a hip slung belt if I didn’t give them all away. I had a couple of those a few years back. That’s a great idea and will give it a try since I love the cozy factor of this top.

@kkards: We are uniform twins for sure. I think your style skews a little more preppy and mine a little more boho but when it comes to uniform dressing for work, we are two peas in a pod! The skirt was a great inexpensive find from Target and it works well with the OTKs as the length doesn’t get hung up on the top of the boots. Thanks for the affirmation of the green top. And another vote for unbelted. I’m going to have to play with that dress...
