WIW: Warm Plaid + Cool Check = No?

Not sure this experiment works. I wouldn’t have tried had it not been for Angie’s posts on mixing plaids and mixing warm and cool colors. This feels OTT even for me, but fabric wise it is very comfy since the skirt is a slightly stretchy (but pilling) knit. What do you think?

I think it all works well. I went back to look at Angie's post and noticed higher color contrast on accessories - red in the earrings, white - in the bag. I wonder if adding brighter colored bad or bracelets/earring could be interesting combination as well. You look great in casual/put together outfit!

Well, my very first thoughts, kinda at random. I think the outfit is pretty with your coloring and especially your hair. Then I am slightly amused, I think because I believe you are amused. But hey, it is comfortable and that means a lot. Then Angie's post makes me feel it is trending. So, I think you should wear it and feel good about it. You do already have it.

I think it looks good but not sure it would be a repeat for me. Not that it’s OTT exactly.... the colours work for me, and the patterns (90s meets 80s!) work better than expected. Your overall current look (hair, on trend booties and bag) help make it clear it’s intentional, I think.

Hair and accessories/footwear on point! But I will be honest is saying the pattern mix doesn't quite work here - to my eye, anyways. I can't always articulate why, but something is off here.

Yeah, Lisa; is it the scale of the pattern in the skirt? Something feels off, so I don't think I would wear this combo again. I can't believe I actually wore this out of the house to Trader Joe's -- and ran into a couple of people I know. Oops!

I think it's because the skirt is a completely different kind of plaid - a 2-colour houndstooth hybrid of sorts - and the shirt is a classic multi colour plaid.

This works for me and I especially like the tan bag with the plaid top. I think the skirt is just a little too bright to be perfect - the colors in the top are a bit faded and perhaps that is one contrast too many. But that is nitpicking.

Donna, I love your style and fearlessness. I feel like maybe the two prints are a bit too similar in scale maybe? I feel like with pattern mixing it's always easier to mix a big and a small scale print. No expert though obviously! The warm/cool mix I think looks great, and I really like both pieces!

I don't see a problem with the pattern- or warm/cold shade- mixing here,-and am aware we split the hair pieces here-BUT I too can see something little off. To my eyes the culprit is rather the paler color of the booties. If it would have been a bolder/darker cognac (closer or even darker then the bag-and the browns in the plaid shirt- then they probably would have grounded the color scheme and equilibrate the amount of darks(blacks) in the skirt -achieving a bigger harmony to the eyes. Just my (not professional at all) 2 cents:-).

I think the cognac accessories and the white in both the skirt and top harmonize the outfit, but I like Joy's sweater suggestion.
