Happy Sunday Fab Ones!

Today we have a special event/service at Church, so I ditched wearing my usual jeans and tried out a new jacket. I posted this when I bought it and it did get the thumbs up but it is only now the right weather for it.

I have a couple of thoughts:

I wonder if this would work better over a skinny leg pant? I am really only wearing a skinny silhouette and want to get my other pants in regular rotation.

I have also been considering pressing the lapel flaps out (to get rid of the crease) so I can wear it with the 'flaps' across the chest. #3 is my jacket laid flat with flaps crossing. #4/5 are two inspiration pics to demonstrate what I am thinking.

And finally, I know my white boots would have worked well (I think) with this but I struggled with the high contrast this morning and safely (read boringly) went for black booties.

I would value your thoughts on this.

Well, first - I don't think this reads as Waiter at all, but I don't go to places where they wear white jackets :3

Second - what a fabulous jacket!!! I think I'd go with the safe black booties too, although I think this jacket is versatile enough to do no wrong. I love it with the grey as in the model in #4.

This jacket is amazing. The zipper details make a big impact, I think. They keep it far out of waiter territory.

I have some trepidation about you ironing out the creases in this jacket. To me it seems like once you cross the flaps, you get a silhouette similar to the Spiegel equestrian jacket that Ceit and I both bought. I'm still having trouble styling it because it kinda divides my top half in half, if that makes sense. I can't wear any tucked tops or regular length shirts with it and look correctly proportioned, so I'll have to wear it with only dresses or tunics. When you look at your example pics, you can see how the one model is wearing it with a tunic, and the other one is wearing all the same color so the contrast between top and bottom is not as pronounced. If you imagine a black shirt on her, suddenly she has a giant dark triangle right across her middle.

Now, I am fully willing to believe that this issue may be related mostly to my own proportions/shape, and will look great on you. I just think I'd try pinning the collar open and trying on some outfits to make sure it works as you'd hope.

Love this as you have styled it - I like the idea that you could iron the flaps and wear it as in the photos you posted - one jacket , two ways - cool.

I love how you're wearing it here--I like it over the flowing top and pants. It would work well over skinnies, too, I think. But your look has the feel of your second inspiration photo, and I like it a lot! Just gorgeous; and as always, you've accessorized beautifully--love the necklace.
I'm not sure about white booties, either. I like the uninterrupted line to the floor, with the black footwear, and agree this is a perfectly safe (but not boring!) choice. It would certainly be worth trying the white booties, though.
Pressing out the lapels is worth a try, too. I'd be careful and use a press cloth, but you probably would do that anyway. I really love that inspiration outfit with the gray top underneath.

I rushed to this thread because of the topic! As a server, I am always interested in how to make my boring work ensemble work (hello frumpy polo shirts).

I remember that jacket. I too love the flaps crossed over like that. Doing so, however, may cause the jacket to lose its status as the "waiter jacket."

How about fashion tape, in addition to pressing, to keep the flaps closed?

Because of the long length and the volume of the top, I do think a skinnier pant would look a bit more modern. Or, stick with the boot cut pants and pair them with a super pointy toe, one which just peeks out. This would involve a pump or other more refined, single sole shoe.

I love the idea of the crossed flaps too - as long as you could re-press the folds if it didn't work then I say try it. Also agree with CL about the skinnier pant or a different shoe

Oh, if waiters would be so stylish 'round here. (Well, on more traditional places they do sport a waistcoat, but nothing edgy...)

I love the jacket (and you love it also with flat flaps), so as caro suggested, if pressing the flaps won't cause any damage (=can be reversed again), I would try this outfit both ways!

I love the idea of doing a Helmut Lang on your jacket so iron away.
I clicked on your shoes with the little white pointy hand to see what the outfit would look like with contrast at the foot. . I like the effect. I agree about pointy toes too. That means you "need" to buy another pair of shoes!

Don't think I am qualified to give opinion re changing the jacket but wanted to say its a fab jacket and you look nothing like a waiter.

What about this jacket with grey top and pants and the silver/snakeskin sandals from your other post?

I was going to suggest pressing the lapels out of the jacket, so I vote go for it. I think the jacket will fit more fluidly that way and achieve the looks you are after.

Your white booties would have been heavenly here. Next time.

How about a skirt outfit with the jacket?
