Wiw. Vertical proportions?

I grabbed the components of this outfit to put on after my cycle commute to work, but hadn't actually tried them together.

I have had a few comments and compliments, mostly because of the shine factor, I think.

But I suspect the vertical proportions are out, with the top too long.

What do you think?

Nah, I think it’s fine. It may just be your eye adjusting to the generally shorter proportions of tops these days, but it still looks great as is to me and you look lovely- no surprise you got complimented. The black of the shoes bookending the top is especially good!

I think it depends what look you going for. The longer top implies a more relaxed vibe to me.

Can you put a knot in one side of the top, or is that too casual for work?
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this outfit. All the components are great for this time of year. But I know being long-waisted/with shorter legs bugs you so I’ll tell you that yes, that is visible when the top covers the waist/yoke of the skirt.

What isn't visible is this top has a gathered knot under the bust and won't work with another knot, or tucked in.

I usually wear either tucked tops, or cropped tops with this skirt, but I have lost the blouse I really enjoyed pairing it with.
And it suddenly summery weather and I am doing the yearly relearning how to dress for hot weather!

I think this looks really great! Also a bit unexpected, and with 1920-30s references in the overall silhouette. I get why everyone complimented you - its always interesting and exciting to see someone step out of the box a little, and this feels ladylike and whimsical.

I would love to see what happens if you lean into the 1920s just a little more, with a longer necklace and a fluffier, loose updo.

I am with you on the proportions being off, and would find a top to tuck or a shorter top. I have a short waist so have been buying “cropped” tops that hit my natural waist.

I like this Anne - it does have a 20s air. I would look for a shorter top to wear with the skirt as another option. I find my tops wear out much quicker than my skirts.

Wow very pretty!

Long over short but not block-y. I can see your shape, including your waist, and I like the way the longer top kind of reins in the fullness of the skirt. I like your accessories and the neatness of your hairstyle too.

A shorter or tucked top would be the conventional way to go for traditional figure flattery, but as others have pointed out, this outfit gives off a ‘20’s vibe that you could lean into with a bob or faux bob (something softer and broader/horizontal at eye/ear/cheek level. Beautiful skirt. Maybe try an outfit lab with it?

@Rachy - I think Anne is wearing a work security pass on the waistband of her skirt - that way it is handy when she moves around the building. In my former job, I too wore one of these at all times when at the office.

Ah! A badge. I have a whole collection too. On my phone it looks like the end of a tie maybe and like the skirt has a waist meant to be shown.

Thanks to everyone who replied, and my apologies for taking so long to get back to this.

Mary Beth - I felt ok. The skirt does have some impefections that bother me - the pleats aren't crisp, and there are little snags in the fabric. I could manage a longer necklace - though I think it would interfere with the styling on this top. A looser fluffier updo feels a bit unattainable - I'm not very good with styling!

A note about vertical proportions - I wasn't referring to my perennial long torso/ short leg situation so much as that the top and skirt seem almost the same length. One is often told that a more uneven breakup is more flattering.

I have posted to YLF before with lots of different tops with this skirt (mostly shorter) but I can't find the post, or at least can't find it in the time I have. Searching for your own posts on YLF when you've been a member for 13 years can be quite hard!
