WIW: Vancouver - YouLookFab Forum

I'm in Vancouver on business all week and was very proud of myself for being very organised, having trip details down, scheduling things to the minute, etc... That is, until I arrived and realised that I'd forgotten my laptop at airport security in Toronto! Gah!

I did a 4 hour presentation yesterday to an audience of 20 sans laptop or slides. Luckily it went fairly well. Note to self: ALWAYS check that you have everything from the security conveyor belt! Luckily they found it Andy it is waiting for me back in Toronto.

On the bright side: I am walking distance from my favourite store ever: The Room at the Bay. This time of year, they have amazing markdowns, so I can actually afford some of the clothes there

Black Dress: Ralph Lauren (this is taken after 14 hours at the convention, so excuse the large bags under my eyes!)

White Dress: Hugo Boss from The Bay (I also bought some amazing Hugo Boss grey light wool trousers and a white lace blouse that I will wear this spring.)

Thoughts? Comments? Has this ever happened to you or have you had a similar d'oh! Moment?

Wow, lovely dresses! They are like photo negatives of each other. Both fit you beautifully.

I gasped when reading your story about the laptop! I am glad it had a happy ending though.

Both dresses are gorgeous on you! I really like the second dress with the black boots dressed down, and it could easily be dressed up with pumps and jewelry. Thanks for reminding me why I am so drawn to black and white!
As for security mishaps, after 15 years of flying internationally with small (and now big) kids, including many years with a twin stroller, my whole life feels like a d'oh moment!

I'm so impressed that you did so well without your computer. And glad to hear it is in security. And cool dresses.

DS1 forgot to put his phone in the little basket at security so he handed it to DH, who left it at security after going through the metal detector.

Wow! You are a champion for getting through that presentation. I'd be a nervous wreck if I forgot my computer. But I *did* forget my cord in Toronto on the weekend, eek! And I had to prep for teaching and teach the next day. Luckily I was able to rent one temporarily and I now have the original one returned.

Those dresses are both lovely on you. Sounds like some good shopping!

In a similar vein, I was given a very nice camera for graduation from college. Within two weeks, I left it on an airplane. However, a couple days later I got it back! It still seems amazing to me.

Thank you so much ladies! I won't lie, my heart dropped into my stomach when I realised I didn't have my laptop! Luckily it has all gone ok.

Angie - so funny you say that. I like light colours on me too (blush, light heather grey, ivory, white) but I never did before. I wore jewel tones and saturated colours for a while , and distinctly started away from light colours after looking awful in them as a teen. So funny that they seem to work now.

@katerina yes this is my conference look - turtleneck, sleeveless dress and leather jacket!

Wow, what amazing finds! You look fantastic! I can't imagine presenting for 4 hours without (or with) a lap top. I'm sure my brain would shot off about an hour in. Great job!!

Glad your day ended well. I especially like the white dress. I travel so light that things that get left are more like cords or a scarf. But security is the worst. At times I might forget for a few minutes that I need to recover shoes or jacket.

Leaving a laptop is truly a nightmare. TSA Pre in the US has been such a lifesaver in that regard, not having to pull them out of our bags, reducing the chance of this happening. It's amazing you will get it back, and a great lesson on having strong protections on our most personal devices. Clearly you know your material inside out, going 4 hours without the deck! Was it freeing, sort of? Do you feel like your meeting maybe even went better without slides? I often think we use them as a crutch. You are very, very amazing!

I just love the RL dress and bet it is really versatile. At least you didn't have to worry about looking great and could focus on that impromptu, ad hoc preso!
