WIW: Vaguely Safari - YouLookFab Forum

My in-laws are taking us out to a local gastro-pub tonight for an early birthday dinner and, since I've been wearing dresses pretty much every time I've seen them this summer, I wanted to do something different.

Wearing my new (ish) Loft ochre chinos that I sized up in for a relaxed look, black ruched drape-neck blouse, black ballet flats. My only accessories are my chunky black wayfarer glasses and a multi-strand, beaded statement necklace that's served me well with everything from a LBD to a flannel shirt. Between the necklace and the chinos, I feel a little safari-ish in this outfit, but, thanks to the glasses and blouse, only vaguely.

Thoughts/comments/ideas welcome.

Word Lily - The glasses are different, but I've worn them in a couple of WIWs. These are my "back up glasses" from Zenni. They're not as comfortable or durable as my everyday Burberry frames, but they were only about $30 with lenses, and I like the geekier vibe.

I bought these right around the time Angie posted her reminder to choose your own fit, and I still angsted about it, because they don't look anything like they look on the model. I'm trying to think of them as boyfriend-jeans-like.

Suz - I love neutrals too, but I realized I wasn't buying enough because I'm so attracted to color. I shop like a hummingbird, even though I'd rather dress like a moth. Trying to fix that and find some balance!

Diane - Thank you! This necklace always scares me when I look at it on the hook, but I like it on. It's huge, but lightweight and the colors go with everything.

Celia - I think we have similar hair/skin coloring, so that totally makes sense!

Tania and Donna - It's totally true. I go to the store and make a beeline for anything red, and then get home and think, gee, I wish I had some navy blue and taupe.

It was a lucky find from Express a few years back, but I've worn it to death and it's developing a hole (unnoticeable, for now, because of the lining). I've been looking for a replacement, but I think I'm going to have to go to a higher price point to get anything I like as much.

unfrumped - Agreed. I'm coming to the conclusion that I like black best paired with warm neutrals and earth tones. It suits me better than traditional black and white.

E - When I bother to set up the SLR, I usually just set it on auto-burst and then pick whichever photos I don't hate. So, less posing, and more "caught in mid-movement." I think about your "quirky neutrals" comment quite a bit, and it's definitely helping guide my thought processes. Thank you!
