WiW: Utilty jacket + taupe pencil skirt

Diversion from Fall wardrobe plan today, although still keeping within the spirit of my own personal Skirt Challenge. I started out the day wearing outfit 6 here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-planning... but it was just too hot, despite this dress being sleeveless. Even if I'd had swapped the booties for strappy heels. That dress is WARM. So as temps hit 80 in the afternoon, I wound up swapping out for this outfit instead.............

- BR flutter sleeve paisley blouse (several years old)
- BR taupe pencil skirt (spring '12 purchase, as part of a 3 piece suit. This IS taupe, right?)
- Metallic wedges
- Cobalt bag
- silver heart & key necklace
- ATL utility jacket. I might have reached for a jean jacket but since the blog was talking about utility jackets, I broke mine out. Unfortunately only needed for about one hour tonight. But, what do you think? Does it work with this outfit? Curious minds want to know... it is unlined and very lightweight, lighter than a jean jacket.

Commentary: i think I have lost weight last few years, without realizing it. This is another blouse that I nearly tossed..... glad I tried it on one last time! Because in past years it would be just a tad too snug across the shoulders/bust but now is fitting better. I am dubious about the flutter sleeves? Also I have never worn it tucked in and/or with a skirt. Only with jeans. Used to wear this all the time in the fall with a brown tweed jacket or my butter leather jacket. I.e., with browns/warmer tones. I'm leaning towards "keep" for this top, now that I've figured a different way to wear it... but invite opinions.

I didn't want to swap out my bag so I got inspired to try this blouse with it. Do you think the colors work? Or do I have too much blue in my wardrobe?

I think the blouse works just fine, as does the purse. Love that pop of cobalt.

I love that tonal look - people do it with black/grey/white all the time. Why can't we do it with blues? You've got texture & pattern here & I think it looks great.

I think this works really well, and the utility jacket is a fun change from denim. The flutter sleeve top looks really pretty on you. I had one from BR (not this one, but another) last year and I passed it along because I thought it looked awful on me. Looking at you, I can see how it is SUPPOSED to look.

The skirt is fab! Do you like the suit as a whole? Have you worn it?

I have seen it on the website. They call the colour taupe and I expect it IS a light taupe, but on my screen it reads like a light grey. But taupe and grey are very close relatives anyway and can be paired up.

You look great! I like the blouse tucked in, and the flutter sleeves look good to me. Great jacket, too! And it seems to work well with the rest of the outfit (especially with the bright blue of the bag).

Everything works well, colors & proportions. The utility jacket is a nice alternative to denim, and the jacket works well with the shoes.

Oh do keep. These beige skirts (or is it the same one) is so versatile! The military roughens up the outfit a bit to downplay the sweetness, which is so modern. Keep!

The blouse looks perfect on you Shiny. The whole outfit works really well amd I like the utility jacket a lot. The only thing giving me pause is the sandals with the utility jacket. The jacket by virtue of what it is has a heavy look and I think I would be more inclined to wear a sandle/bootie type shoe to balance the top with the bottom. (mind you I do realise you were not wearing the jacket for long):)

Suz, yes I do like and wear the suit - it was the mainstay of a week long business trip this spring. The jacket is boyfriend length, which I find fun to wear.

It's interesting Jayne is calling it beige... here it is next to the beige skirt, gray pumps, and what I've always called my "nude" pumps.... it is closer to gray (Especially in this picture) but not quite gray. If it is in the beige family, then I'd say this is a beige that is more flattering for me to wear near my face.

Deborah, I debated about the shoes. But I had no idea how much we'd be walking on cobblestones, so wedges made the most sense. Also the gray pumps in this photo are really only sitting shoes.

I think of this color as greige. I associate it with Armani suits from back in the day. It works really well with your skin and hair!
