.... my hair that is:)

Ok so this is just a very casual running around outfit. Leggings, drape top and cardigan and my new zip boots. Took Master 11 out for lunch and shopping. He is growing so fast. We bought a couple of new things the other week but went out to get the rest of what he needed today.

It was interesting...he seems to take after his mother;). He likes neutrals, a lot of light grey, black, no patterns, and comfort is really important. We had fun:)

I have never posted before with unwashed hair (the horror) but my stylist suggested I didn't wash it today.

In the cold light of day, I am not sorry I did it, BUT I think I will be heading back to get some low lights put in. A couple of things have struck me ...one is I don't think I can have the bleach on my scalp again. It was a very gentle mixture but my scalp is still itching. I can see too much yellow coming through (stylist did say it might take a second go to get rid of it completely, but I really cannot cope with it). The overall look is cool and it's not that I don't like it but I think it's pushing the envelope for me. I also hopefully will be job interviewing in the next few weeks and I am just not sure this is the look I want. I do still want the platinum tone but maybe not in this one dimensional form of a full colour. I am looking forward to washing and styling it myself tho:). I may well change my mind, but this where I'm sitting at the moment.

The really interesting thing is, in the photos I really like it:). In the mirror, it just looks a little OTT!!

As I commented before I like your hair very much. Maybe the mirror issue is just that the color needs some softening. Doesn't it change after a week or so? The hair truly suits your style, but I can see how a dramatic color like this might need some tweaking before it feels like "you."

The outfit has your usual artistic edge and the necklace is beautiful!

Yep I love it too in the photos. But if you are not comfortable then it does make sense to do what it takes :). I know nothing about coloring, so I cannot really advice on it.

I love your today's outfit :). The booties have been a perfect addition to your wardrobe.

Do you think maybe it's the shock of seeing something so different on yourself? Having gone back to view earlier postings of what you've worn, (Pre haircut and color,) I think this cut and color is very flattering to your style, and so polished.

I love the effect, but I think you're right there is something to be said for color with dimension -- I think what I hear you saying is the color though striking is rather flat. As for the yellowing when you do wash I would suggest a good "blue" shampoo. Your colorist/stylist may have mentioned it. I know I had to use it after I dyed my hair a deep rich red tone (reds are the hardest to maintain!) To keep the brassiness/yellow-orange tones out I had to wash at least once, once a week with a "blue" shampoo. It worked like a charm even when I was growing the color out and it would get a bit "orange" the blue shampoo was great at correcting the color so my hair looked more brown than anything. All of that long paragraph to say blue cancels out/ erases/ neutralizes yellow tones and you should ask your colorist/stylist about using blue shampoo to help maintain your platinum color.

Thanks DV:). I already use a purple shampoo to stop my blonde from going brassy. I also bought a conditioning toner. So will definitely be using that to keep the colour under control.

i always find it takes a few days to get used to "new hair". even if its a small change, it can be hard looking at the new you in the mirror. but somehow looking at it in a picture is different. i guess what i'm trying to say, is take sometime to get used to it.

Debs, I have never had my hair bleached - but my mate Laura has - and she said it hurt. So I hear you. She had to stop with the whole bleaching thing because of that.

Personally, I prefer blonde hair with multidimensional colour - just as you are feeling right now. It looks prettier, softer, more textured and more alive that way - if you know what I mean (especially as you get older). It softens your head to toe black outfits too.

There is no right and wrong here though, Debs. It's all a subjective preference. I'm glad you tried the one dimentional bleached look - you HAD to get it out of your system. Furthermore, adding softness and "pretty" are so not everyone's style goal. So it needn't be yours either. You look great either way and lots of love. xo

I don't know a think about bleach, but I really love your look. I've always loved your look, but with your hair shorter and lighter I feel like you've really stepped up your "cool" factor. Truly, you look SO stylish and hip and amazing. Really inspirational. Really. I can't get over it.

Re: the bleach. I have never had bleach done but with the dye (ammonia based) my stylist uses, it helps a great deal with scalp itching/burning to do it on an unwashed scalp. At least one day without washing, preferably two. The extra oils really protect your scalp. So maybe another reason not to wash your hair!

I don't think you can do wrong with your hair. Honestly. Platinum looks amazing but it does as well when you have the regular color like usual. Your cut makes it all that much better. Fwiw you are my hair icon on ylf. I think Angie summed it up best though. What makes you happy is what you should go for.

Wow, I love your hair!!! I read in Vogue that one dimension hair color is the thing right now. But if the bleach hurt my scalp, I wouldn't do it again either. It's fun to try something once even if it's short lived.

I have to tell you, Deb, the hair is outstanding. And it can fly punkier or more conventional.

However, I've given up on dying my hair. I really worry about damage these days. I've got a lot of damage.

As others have said, your hair looks pretty fabulous in the pictures. Why not enjoy the look for a few weeks, especially if you don't see keeping it as a permanent look. If nothing else, you can always look back at the pictures and remember the heady feeling of giving in to an impulse just for fun.

I like what Angie said, about how multidimensional color adds texture and interest. I think I naturally prefer that kind of hair as opposed to a very uniform shade. However, I will say that since you have just had this done, I would wait at least a week before having anything changed, because you want to give yourself time to mentally and emotionally adjust to the new color. Once you're used to seeing yourself with your new color, you'll know better what kinds of changes you want to make, if any.

I know I am guilty of having something done, or maybe of buying a new piece of clothing, and then immediately I decide that I don't like this or that about it. I decide I'm going to return the item the next day, or take it to the tailor immediately for alts, or whatever. But I have found that if I wait, I almost always get more clarity, and I often change my original plan. So that's my recommendation. :^)

Lots of good advice above. I would wait at least a couple of weeks because I find it takes me a while to get used to a big change and decide how I feel about it. One reason I stopped coloring my hair was the dye burned my scalp, so I certainly understand that as a major factor. You look stunning, but you are always gorgeous Deborah!

It is funny as I was at the hairstylist two weeks ago... the most expensive haircut I have ever had ... EEEK !

But HE told me... "Don't wash more than once a week ! ". He says 4- 10 days between washings !

I think multitone gives the "impression" of thickness sometimes. I find it looks more natural - but sometimes "natural" is not what one is looking for. AND like the other ladies have said - it is all about personal preference.

I think foils are the way to go - to keep haircolor or bleach off your scalp. If you would not do it to your face or arm... then best not to do it.

I am probably not one to take hair advice from though...

You are a very pretty lady... would look good in anything.

I don't know how I missed this yesterday! Wow, this is a very dramatic look. I like it even more after reading all the comments and then going back through the pictures again. Are you still surprised when you catch yourself in the mirror or have you gotten used to it yet? I think it's not a bad idea to give it a week if you can, before making any decisions to change it. I love your hair with the low-lights woven in, but whatever you decide will be great.

Deborah, this is a new look for you and I am seeing some subtle dimensional coloring in the second photo. However, I'm sure that a full platinum color will require more bleaching as time goes on, so coloring with low lights may be easier on the hair and you'll still have the platinum tresses you desire. No matter what you decide, you have a striking appearance.

At the risk of boring you all with more droning on about my hair, I though I would offer an update.

It's now day three! The itching has stopped and I have now washed it myself (ahhh). Im a little up and down about it. I dont hate it, but I don't love it. And as much as I hate to admit it (not sure why) a little bit of pretty is one of my style goals.

Also I was fully aware of the maintenance when I did it but I think the reality of it is only just setting in.

Everyone in my real life has been very complimentary. DH is "accepting" and very diplomatically told me I always look beautiful!! Smart man. Master 11 says I look like I have granny hair lol... no dinner for him:)

I have really taken all your advice on board and I thank you for your wise words. I am travelling to Melbourne tomorrow for a work conference and I actually feel a bit uncomortable about my hair and my colleagues seeing me... that's not a good sign as I normally don't care/mind about what others think and say so I have decided to book in this weeks and have the low lights put in. Hopefully break up the starkness of the white, help eliminate some gold and give my hair some dimension and movement.

On the positive side, and I think I forgot to metion this, this was a new hairdressing salon that I went to. She was great and I am more than thrilled with cut.

Deborah - gorgeous elegant outfit!! Love the colors and drape on you. Also adore your hair cut, edgy polished refined timeless but totally now. On color, I think you'd be gorgeous no matter what you pick. This is a pretty look, but I always think of you as a glowing candle, if that makes any sense, and I love the blonde because it has depth, dimension, drama and I think the golden color is gorgeous with you skin and eyes. I do like this very, very much. I think the color is gorgeous with your eyes it creates a haunting ethereal quality which is lovely, but in my mind's eye, I see you as a golden flame!! PS I would be careful of using any chemical that caused itching. Allergic reactions can be really severe, would not want you to go there!!

Thank you for the update. Your colleagues may notice that you look different but not really notice that it is your hair, or just notice the new cut. People really don't notice us as much as we think that they do. LOL Master 11.
