WIW: unplanned job interview - YouLookFab Forum

I met with my vocational rehab case manager today, and then with the job placement specialist. After I finally got done with all of that, it was time to stop at the grocery for some veggies for dinner tonight. Before I went in, I picked up my phone to call DH. I noticed a missed call & tried to return it.

It was from the very grocery store I was parked in front of. I had put in an application there a few weeks ago, and I assumed that it was the produce department manager wanting to interview me. I went to the office, where they couldn't find my application. They gave me a new one & interviewed me after I filled it out.

During the interview, he told me it was probably the pharmacist calling me, wanting to interview me. As a recovering addict, I almost exploded with laughter but managed to keep my composure. Turns out, the produce department has somebody wanting to go to part-time (semi-retire), the holidays are coming, and the assistant store manager thinks that they might need to see about starting me part-time really soon if the department budget will allow it.

It made me extra glad I followed suggestions and had actually kind of worn something (more or less) appropriate to meet with my voc-rehab people. I'm grateful for the suggestions and help from you guys!

Wide leg chinos (H&M), linen hoodie jacket & knit top (vintage finds), flats (Chinese Laundry), and I carried my black Celine bag.

Any comments or critiques are welcome and appreciated!

Hi! I like your top and necklaces and esp SHOES the best, it all looks very cohesive. Ready for anything including unexpected interviews!
I suppose you would feel the pharmacy unsafe would you? But produce department might wreck clothes again- not like a goat though

Nice! You're looking really great in these light-but-autumn-y neutrals. And the shoes elevate the look really nicely. I was a produce associate (and later plants and flowers buyer) for a good part of my 20s, while I was going to teacher school. I *loved* the produce crew I worked with -- a very positive bunch of folks, absolutely the best grocery store department to work in.

Jenni, I would probably be fine in the pharmacy, but why take chances? The idea of a recovering addict working in a pharmacy is hilarious (in a very dark & twisted way). I do imagine this job will be messy, but not as bad as the produce stand; and definitely won't cause as many tears and holes Thanks for the compliments; I was hoping it was harmonious even though the tans & browns were varied.

LaPed, the manager that interviewed me said it's a 3 person department, so it should be a good crew. Thank you for the compliments! I'm enjoying wearing nicer clothes again, after all that time wearing things I expected to destroy LOL

Nice job! And good luck with the search. You look professional and put together in this. Love the specs too. Do you have a black belt to tie in with the Celine and the top? Maybe too high contrast, but wondering.

Cindy, congratulaions for the interview! And for having conducted it with composure on such short notice. You were beautiful and approachable. Necklace detail is delightful with the top. The outfit's colour work so well with your coloration too.

IMHO to tell you the truth the only thing I find that could be changed are the pants. Somehow they strike me as not quite belonging to this outfit. They are not bad, and they look comfortable too, which was probably in your favor for the interview. You have chosen very nice, refined footwear which elevate the outfit and give cohesion with the top. I like that the necklace echoes the pointy shape of the shoes.

Krishnidoux, I think the pants have too much yellow tone for the other tan/brown components of the outfit. You're right about the comfort level, absolutely 15 out of 10 LOL

My "holy grail" job (when I was talking to the voc-rahab staff) was Old Navy, because they're offering a 50% employee discount for their seasonal employees, and the discount extends across ALL gap brands. I'll take something close to home with a strong possibility of continued, full-time employment anyday, though

You do indeed look pulled together. I think “casual” is probably the right note to hit in your Tx small town, if they know you were just out & about.
