WIW: Tweaking my uniforms: 'threadless' tees and gray/black

This week I took two common (but very different) uniform looks I wear a lot and tried to play with them a little.

The first uniform starts with threadless.com tee shirts. I have a lot of these and I wear them mostly in warmer weather, but the sun came out and I craved some spring color. I tried playing off the color a bit (usually the shirt would be the only color in the outfit). One thing I'm noticing is that as mentioned in another thread the corduroys do stretch at the knees quickly. I also like higher-waisted pants because with the length of my middle they still hit me below the navel, but I'm not sure how they look with a semi-tuck.

The second is black and gray, which I wear a lot, but I tried to think about adding more mixed media texture and shape. Not sure the second one worked (the jacket isn't quite that awkward zipped, I didn't pull it down/adjust fast enough before the photo snapped), but it was comfy.

Photographing WIW and reading this forum is so helpful, there were T-shirt and black/gray looks I'm not posting because they obviously didn't work in the photo, although they looked okay to me in the mirror -- it's a learning process for sure, and any tips are welcome.

I love the fun, casual series in #1, particularly the last three where you have scrunched the sleeves to mid forearm!

My favorites in the first series are 2 and 3, because the cardigan coordinates with your shoes. :^)

I like both looks in #2. You manage to look warm, despite the fact that you have a skirt on. No small feat! And you do a really good job at combining the different shades of gray with black. The two looks in #3 are good too, though I do agree that pulling the jacket down would look better.

Nice job! I don't post WIWs because I don't have a camera, but I know that other people have said that it helps them tremendously with their outfit creation and with pinpointing problems.

I like your colors in the first set! Personally, I like the proportions best of the fourth outfit there. The tuck in the first three looks more like a full-on tuck, which does something proportionally that I don't find quite as pleasing, but I can't exactly articulate. Great experimenting!

I love the gray and black. I also love the use of color in the first set, and the cardigans look so good - why can't I style a cardigan, argh ... but I digress ...

The interesting thing about posting outfit photos is that everything looks good to someone, and everything looks off to someone else. I don't feel like I have a very good grasp of your style yet, but from what little you've posted, the grey outfits definitely seem more you. The bright colors are fun - how do you feel in them? Oh and I absolutely love your turquoise shoes.

I love the turquoise shoes so much it's almost hard to notice anything else!

I really like the playing with colors in the first set. I think my favorites are the ones with the peach cardigan because I love how it picks up the colors in the shirts while also softening them. I also like the black and gray ones, especially the second. That jacket is great!

Museum gal - the black and gray is more 'me' for running around downtown and going out at night, but the colors have been making me feel fun and happy when the sun comes out in the morning. I think I'm a bit split-personality right now

The shoes are faux-suede Sugar brand originally from Kohls.

Rabbit: So glad you're finding photo taking helpful! It still is important to me, and yet I've been sloppy about photos recently. Must fix that!

I love all the incarnations of your outfit formula in #1. Another vote for scrunching and semi-tucking!

Of the gray black, I like the proportions best with the leggings combos, but I love all the elements in the first set. Just and idea --- do you have a simple boyfriend style jacket? I think it would be great with the skirt, tights and boots!

Thanks Beth Ann, I had to google 'boyfriend jacket' (I've been living under a rock fashion-wise). I do have a slightly over-sized gray jacket but the shoulder pads and length might make it lean more 80's than boyfriend. I did try on a linen one the other day that I liked though... I need to go take a second look I think

Love your looks! I wish I had some skinny cords. I have been considering trying a different type of pant (from my usual jeans or occasional trouser-cut slacks) recently. Cords could be my baby step.

The last two outfits (pictures 2 and 3) stopped me dead in my tracks. The only tracks at the moment being my fingers moving on my keyboard. But you get the point. The colors and silhouettes are interesting and -- those legs! Gah, you definitely have lyrical legs.

As for the first photo, these outfits have a very different feel than the black and grey in the last two pictures. Where as the black and grey series has a more avant garde arty look, the color series is more playful / arty. (Arty is not a put down coming from me.) I think the pieces you chose -- tees, knits and corduroys, are more down to earth too. I like the first two looks best, probably because there is a strong column of color, it's a look I fall in love with every time I see it.

All three sets of outfits are fab on you. I really love the tee outfits--the colors, your styling, and the overall cool vibe. You look great with the tee tucked, semi-tucked, and worn out! I love the jacket over the hoody, too. Such inventive combinations here.
The gray outfits are a fun combo of flirty and tough, especially the flared skirt version. Nicely done! I find myself wanting just a touch of color somewhere, but there is a very artful integrity to the palette; you look like you are in gallery-worthy black and white photo.

I'm so intrigued by your love of both black/grey outfits & bright colours! I would not have expected the outfits in 1 from your other posts, but you look just as stunning in those colours as you do in the black & grey.

Your cords look great with a semi-tuck (I sympathise with your concerns, as I'm also a long rise/long torso girl who prefers higher waisted trousers & semitucking looked weird to me for ages). I think I prefer the interaction between the teal & fuschia cardi necklines & high tee neckline. Something about the 2 crew necks with the peach cardigan has me a little unsure. For what it's worth! Your oxfords are so wonderful too.

I love both the black/grey outfits: such interesting proportions & very urban/artsy.
